No Aryan and no Dravidian either!

One of the themes I keep bringing out in this blog is that there is no Aryan Invasion. If there is no Aryan invasion, it also precludes that there is no Dravidian division. Though the present intellectual debates are concentrated on disproving Aryan Invasion and also that Aryan is not a race, not much is happening to find out whether any identity as Dravida did exist. In the early posts of this blog, I did try to bring out the sources to denounce the Dravidan myth. Due to preoccupations and multiple interests – particularly astrology taking most of my time, I am not writing more on 'no-dravida' issue to my satisfaction. I hope to revive the posts on that topic later this year.

For this post, I found the article by Dr NS Rajaram published in the following link quite convincing.

http://www.archaeologyonline.net/artifacts/aryan-invasion-history.html

Just the introduction part of it is produced at the end of this article and the rest can be read in the link.

For my part, I want to add a few information.

The word Arya or Arya puthra is not confined to human beings. Any entity that exhibits nobility is Arya. In Valmiki Ramayana, Tara addresses Vaali at the verge of death as 'Arya putra'.

"uptaa iva punar utthaaya aarya putra iti vaadinii |
ruroda saa patim dR^iSTvaa samviitam mR^ityu daamabhiH ||" 4-19-27

Meaning:- "On getting up as though reawakened from sleep she saw her husband bound fast by the strings of death, and then she wailingly addressed him as, "oh, nobleman's son...""

Aryam is found in bhagawad Gita.

If a person fails to rise to the occasion as deemed necessary, then he is losing his 'Aaryam'. Krishna says so in Bhagawad Gita. When Arjuna threw down his bow saying that he could not fight against his relatives, the first words of Krishna is that what spoke was "kashmalam" (dirty) and poisonous.

Was refusing to fight one's relatives dirty and poisonous?

No.

Arjuna was running away from the duty. One should not run away from one's duty come whatever be his personal opinion about it. Such a dereliction of duty due to personal reasons is 'an- aaryam', says Krishna. He says what Arjuna did by refusal, amounts to 'non- aryanism'! It will be considered as "anaaryam" (non-aryan or ignoble), "aswargyam" (can not take him to the heavens) and "akeerthi" (non glorious).

This land of Bharata varsha was known as Arya vartha.

Vartha means that which is existent, which subsists or just 'being'.

Arya vartha is that place where Aryanism exists.

There is no difference that it existed only in one part of Arya vartha and not in another part of Aryavartha. The general culture of this country was that everyone was trying to excel each other in Aryanism.

That is why we have a vanara king considered as "arya putra".

Vaali's father also was an Arya.

This understanding about this country as of Aryan nature was prevalent until Bharathiyaar's times.

He calls this country as Aryan country only.

The famous Tamizh vaazhtthu "vaazhiya senthamizh" sung in most music concerts, continues further (which is not usually sung) talking about this country as Aryan country. Thus until a century ago the inhabitants of this country, particularly Tamilnadu considered this entire country as Arya-naadu.

When everything was Aryan, there was no talk of Dravidian. That was picked up by EVR and his cronies from the British invention of Aryan- Dravidian divide.

In fact the early mention of 'Dramila' is from Adhi Shankara. In Soundarya Lahiri verse 75, he calls himself as "Dramila Sishu" (the child of Dramila). Dramila means dra + mila. Dra or Dravati means to run. Mila means to join. Dramila means those who have run away to join or meet someone. In the absence of Aryan invasion or Aryan victory over Dravidians to drive them to south, scholars must start working on what was meant by this Dramila.

In some editions of Soundarya lahiri it is given as "Damila sishu". It is Dau +mila. Dau means 'cut off'." Damila means who have been cut off and ran away.

It must be borne in mind that no mean person is saying that he is a Dramila. Adhi shamkara himself says that he is a Dramila.

Does it mean he ran away from some place to be known for ever as Dramila?

Will a person of Shankara's stature take pride in calling himself as Dramila (the run away person) unless it comes with some dignity?

If we think in these lines, we will realize that some migration has indeed taken place in the past on their own volition. A Nambhoothiri Brahmain, calling himself as this shows that it was common term to refer to certain people who have runaway.

If we look at our ancient texts, we get an idea of who these people were.

I have written about this in many post before such as

Migration from Dwaraka to Tamilnadu.

Genetic studies - Dravidas and Kashmiri Pandits share a common ancestor.

Paari of Parambu hills and Paari (caste) of Kashmir – Are they same?

Tretha yuga in the Cholan inscriptions.

At the end of Kali yuga, when seas arose in many places around the world, Dwaraka was also gobbled by seas. People were leaving the country. Mahabharata speaks about a group headed by Arjuna moving northward along a river. They had settled all along the rive banks while the rest of them reached Himalayas (Kashmir). The remnants of that civilization are now regarded as Harappan civilization. The dating of this civilization is Post- Mahabharatha, strengthening the notion that the people were indeed the descendants of Dwaraka people. That is why we find a lot of resemblance of Harappan culture with a Vedism and conches – the specialty of Krishna and unique for the people of dwaraka who were said to carry the Conch symbol with them.

There was another group that was cut off from the people fleeing the chasing sea waters.

This group was headed by sage Agasthya who brought then to Tamilnadu. We find mention of this information in Nacchinaarkkiniyaar's commentary which has been quoted in the above mentioned posts in this blog. We have the information in 2 sources in Tamil, one in the Paayira-urai of Tholkaappiyam and the other in the urai for the 32nd sutra of the AgatthiNai iyal.

In the commentary on Paayiram of Thol kaapiyam, Nacchinaarkkiniyar says,

"Agatthiyanaar ..Thuvaraa-pathi pOndu,

nilam kadantha nedu-mudi aNNal vazhi-k-kaN arasar padhiNmaraiyum,

padhiNeNkudi VeLiruttaraiyum,

AruvaaLaraiyum kondu pOndu,

kaadu kedutthui naadaakki.."

(Agasthya went to Dwarkapathi and brought back with him

18 kings of the lineage of Krishna who measured the land (as Thrivikrama),

18 families of Velirs and AruvaaLars and

had them settled in the lands by clearing the forest tracts)

The same information is told by Nacchinaarkiniyar in his commentary

for the 32 nd sutra of AgatthiNai-iyal,

"Malaya Madhavan nilam kadantha nedumudi Annalaluzhai

nara-pathiyaarudan kONarntha

padhiNeN vagai kudi-p-pirandha VeLirkkum.."

(the kings born in the family of Krishna and along with them

VeLirs born in 18 families (kudi) were brought)

That was the time when deluge engulfed Pandyan land that had Kapatapuram as its capital. The Pandyan king with his subjects moved northward and reached the place what is Tamilnadu today. Udhiyan Cheralaathan's kingdom was spread from east seas to west seas at this area then. We deduce this from Purananuru. His descendant must been ruling then. He was dislodged and sent to the west. Agasthya seems to have played a pivotal role in organizing the land and people who are displaced.

In the AgatthiNai-iyal urai (mentioned above), the formation of Mullai is mentioned. The 5 land formations were made during this time. The people merged with the local population. The Velir kings who came from Dwaraka were always seen with contempt by the Tamil kings. The descendants of these migrants were called by their counterparts in Kashmir as "dravida" ( run away people). The first earliest mention of Dravida is seen in Kashmiri Raja Tarangini of the 6th century AD. But the Migrants in the South called themselves as Dramila or Damila. The Nambhoothiri  Brahmins were migrants from Dwaraka.

I request the interested readers to read my posts on Mangalya dharanam on the role of Nambhoothiri Brahmins in Mangalya practices. They had connection with others throughout the stretch of eastern parts of Western ghats until Gujarat.

Aryan Invasion — History or Politics?

By Dr. N.S. Rajaram

Speaking of the Aryan invasion theory, it would probably be an oversimplification to say: "Germans invented it, British used it," but not by much. The concept of the Aryans as a race and the associated idea of the 'Aryan nation' were very much a part of the ideology of German nationalism. For reasons known only to them, Indian educational authorities have continued to propagate this obsolete fiction that degrades and divides her people. They have allowed their political biases and career interests to take precedence over the education of children. They continue to propagate a version that has no scientific basis.

Before getting to the role played by German nationalism, it is useful first to take a brief look at what the word Arya does mean. After Hitler and the Nazi atrocities, most people, especially Europeans, are understandably reluctant to be reminded of the word. But that was a European crime; Indians had no part in it. The real Aryans have lived in India for thousands of years without committing anything remotely resembling the Nazi horrors. So there is no need to be diffident in examining the origins of the European misuse of the word. In any event, history demands it.

The first point to note is that the idea of the Aryans as foreigners who invaded India and destroyed the existing Harappan Civilization is a modern European invention; it receives no support whatsoever from Indian records - literary or archaeological. The same is true of the notion of the Aryans as a race; it finds no support in Indian literature or tradition.

Jupiter- Saturn opposition and ban on Maoists!

The opposition or conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn has been a pet topic of debate among astrologers.
Lot of literature has been written on this - mostly in connection with a prediction of a calamity in the range of a war.
The source material for this debate is Varahamihira's contention that when Saturn and Jupiter opposes, a terrible calamity or a civil war will break. Based on this, many expected an outbreak of war of a lesser magnitude in the year 2000  when Saturn- Jupiter were together in Taurus. But nothing happened. Earlier during the world wars, this connection between Saturn and Jupiter was not there. This connection was not there even in the Mahabharatha war!

Today such a connection is in the sky with a retro Jupiter in the sign opposite to Saturn.
But no untoward incidents of a warring nature can be seen.

Contrary to to expectations, this opposition came with some relieving features! First of all, soon after this opposition started, Indian election results were announced - averting a hung parliament thereby signaling a politically stable rule in India for the next 5 years.

And now, a few days ago on 22-06-2009, an end was put to the decades long insurgency problem. The government banned the Maoists organization signaling a tough hand in controlling insurgency.

An analysis of this ban in the light of what Varahamihira has said gives us a better insight into what to look for in Saturn- Jupiter opposition or conjunction.

Taking a re look at Varahamihira, he did not say just opposition. He qualified his statement by saying that when Saturn transits Krittika (Solar asterism) and Jupiter transits Vishka (Its own star) at the same time (simultaneously), calamitous conditions will prevail endangering the lives of people.

This opposition perhaps with Saturn in Aries in the sign of debility and Jupiter in inimical Libra, transiting the said stars respectively, causes war like conditions.
The additional feature to be noted here is the involvement of the Solar asterism. As sun stands for government and rulers, the connection of Sun to this combination must be there in some adversarial form.

A similar combination is given by Nostradamus too.
He avers the influence of Saturn over Jupiter. If Saturn overpowers Jupiter, there will be break down of law and people would suffer. But this will happen on condition that Sun is also in some bad patch.

In Century, V - 24, he says,

"The kingdom and the king being joined under Venus,
Saturn shall overpower Jupiter,
the law and reign raised by the Sun
shall be put to the worse by Saturines"

That there must be some affliction of Sun is again noted in Century IV- 86, where he says
that when Saturn is in Aquarius conjoining Sun, the king will be powerful, yet wicked. The king will murder innocent citizens.

In the dictum by Varahamihira, we find the affliction caused to the asterism of sun in the sign where Sun exalts.
The saturine affliction of Sun must be there, if some war like condition must prevail with Jupiter also getting afflicted by Saturn either by conjunction or opposition.

For instance in the event of the ban on Maoists,
Jupiter became strong by retrogression in Aquarius. It simultaneously casts its 5th aspect on Sun and 7th aspect  on Saturn in the proverbial combination of opposition to Saturn.
Jupiter is in the asterism of Mars, its friend who is in his own house, but who is not in any mischievous axial relationship with Saturn at the moment. This rules out any adversarial opposition but does not rule out fiery flares in the past few days and in the days to come by being associated with Bharani. The many fire accidents we hear  these days are connected to the current transit of Mars.

It must also noted that the ban on Maoists happened with Jupiter in 10H, Sun in 2H and Saturn in 4H of the Indian natal chart. Mars the lord of 12H is in 12th at that moment.

The inference is that if Jupiter is overpowering than Saturn and 'protects' the sun also in the process- with an additional guarantee from Mars that he is not up for any mischief, the proverbial, opposition of conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn can not wreck any havoc.
With a strong Jupiter in control of Sun and Saturn, it will be advantage to the government enabling it to run the writ of law high.

That the opposition or conjunction of Jupiter- Saturn need not be averred, must be understood from another dictum that says when Saturn, Jupiter and lagna lord are in auspicious relationship in a persons' horoscope, they will make the person a Brahma Gyaani! Thus, more than the equation between them (Jup and Sat), it is about the other conditions becoming adversarial or auspicious that make the equation trigger a bad event.

Cure from Astrology and Music.

Colours, radiation, vibrations etc are all part of astrology. Two news reports are given below on how music heals and on the recognition for astrology to recommend cures for heart ailment.

Sound vibrations are the basis of Vedic chants and homas. When Narada visited Vyasa in the Himalayas (this narration is in Mahabharatha), he found the sage and his disciples engrossed in mediation in a very calm environs with no sound heard anywhere.

Narada did not approve of this 'dead' silence and advised Vyasa to immediately start vedic chantings aloud. He said the chantings must vibrate the icy mountains. The chantings alone produce the necessary atmosphere conducive for prosperity and peace of the world. Though Vyasa was withdrawn form the worldly life, he was not entitled to shun vedic chantings. He must see to it that the chantings were vibrating the atmosphere all the time.

That is the purpose of Vedas – the life enricher.

The acoustics of Vedas are further improvised in Music.

The seven notes of music are further related to the planets signified by specific vibrations of their own. And every planet also signifies a specific colour. The all-in-one nature can be explained as follows:-

1 – 'ma' (madhyam) -Moon – white or yellowish tint.

2- 'ga' (gandharam) - Sun - Golden colour

3- 'ri' (rishabham) - Mars - red

4- 'sa' (shadjam) - Mercury - green

5- 'ni' (nishadham) - Venus - multi colour

6- 'dha' (dhaivatam) - Jupiter - Yellow.

7- 'pa' (panchamam) - Saturn – blue

It will be good for humanity if the many faceted use of astrology is revealed to the world. With patronage and recognition, it is possible to expand the applicability of astrology to solve contemporary problems in diverse areas.

Heart problem? UGC looks for cure in stars

by

Amita Verma

Curing heart ailments through astrology may sound bizarre, but Banaras Hindu University (BHU) in Varanasi has taken up such a project
"After considerable deliberations and a series of interviews, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has allowed us to start this project. We have received an approval letter

The project is on how to prevent and cure heart related diseases through astrology," said Dr Shatrughan Tripathi, a professor in BHU's astrology department
According to Dr Tripathi, astrology is a therapy too
He said, the ancient books are replete with mentions of diseases and treatments
"Through astrology one can diagnose heart diseases in human beings, when it can happen, and during what situations it can happen," Dr Tripathi said

"We are not doing anything new, all these dis eases have been mentioned in our ancient holy books

We are trying to bring the same things to the people, but in a scientific manner." The UGC-sponsored project is expected to revive scientific study of astrology and the "relation between ailments and planetary positions." The project has given rise to "astrology hospitals" in Varanasi where patients are prescribed semi-precious stones, beads and herbal medicines for heart related ailments.

SOOTHING THERAPY - Music helps keep your heart in perfect rhythm

Docs claimed that it can help keep your heart in rhythm. Previous studies have shown that music reduces stress, boosts athletic performance and also enhances the motor skills of people with neurological impairments

Now, a team at the Univer found that music affects the heart, arteries and lungs in ways which could be used to help patients with circulatory conditions
The study found swelling crescendos increase the listener's blood pressure and heart and respiration rates, while relaxing passages of music do the opposite, leading British paper the Daily Mail reported

Lead researcher Luciano Bernardi "Music induces a continu- Prof

These findings increase our understanding of how music could be used in rehabilitative medicine." Researchers who played random classical tracks to 24 volunteers found that music affected the participants' bodies

Half of the subjects were experienced singers and half had no musical training. During the experiment, the music they were played included Beethoven's Ninth Symphony, an aria from Puccini's Turandot, aBach cantata, Va, Pensiero, from Verdi's opera Nabucco, and Libiam Nei Lieti Calici from Verdi's La Traviata

The volunteers also listened to a two-minute silence, during which their blood vessels dilated and heart rate and blood pres sure reduced.

Life’s origin traced to India, says study

A recent study-report published from Washington revealed that the earliest life forms discovered as of today are found in India.

The present-day geographic expanse called India was part of a larger Aryavartha where mankind flourished from time to time in every Manvanthra.

This is not a fictitious statement because we have the record in Surya Siddhnatha which says when this earth came into being and when the first life forms began to appear.

The keeping track of the days of the week is traced to the first day that started with the first Manvanthra. We have on record in astrology the number of days from the time when first life appeared.  Calculations have been done based on this and it is found that 714,404,096,641 days elapsed prior to 02-05-1827.

With this kind of record of Time in Hindu texts, it is no wonder that every discovery – be it in archeology or genetics, is pointing its finger to India for the origin of Life, of Mankind and Culture!

LIVING FORMS EVOLVED 400 MN YEARS EARLIER

Complex life forms may have evolved on the earth 400 million years earlier than previously thought, a new study of fossils found in India has suggested.

An international team, led by Birger Rasmussen of the Curtin University of Technology, conducted the study in India which it claims opens a whole new window to the beginning of life on our planet

"New sampling of the Vindhyan basin in India has confirmed the presence of fossils older than has been previously accepted. These fossils, which are more than 1.6 billion years old, are likely to be more than a billion years older than what was previously accepted for fossils found in this region.

"They are also between 400 and 600 million years older than any multi-cellular life found anywhere on the planet," Prof Rasmussen said.

According to the researchers, the reason for the differences in the result from this test compared to earlier research was that the team used the world's best practices to get the job done right
"This was the first independent test done in the region. In previous reports material separation may have contaminated by other rock samples

"The team that I worked with wanted to avoid prospects of contamination, so we made sure the fossils were separated from the surrounding rocks in labs that we were certain could do the job correctly

"The age of the fossils was determined using lead dating of the phosphorate in the fossils. This is deposited with the organic material that becomes fossilised when it is buried in the sea floor, billions of years ago

This form of testing is generally very accurate when we are looking at a time scale of over a billion years," Prof Rasmussen said.

Interfaith dialogue: in whose interest?

http://www.vijayvaani.com/FrmPublicDisplayArticle.aspx?id=641

Interfaith dialogue: in whose interest? - I

B R Haran

18 Jun 2009

"Interfaith Dialogue" refers to interaction between two or more religious traditions, at both individual and institutional levels, leading to understanding of values and respecting them, resulting in prevalence of communal amity.

The compulsion to participate in interfaith dialogues arises due to two reasons. First, when the 'state' fails to take care of the majority community and panders to the minority communities; second,  when the minority communities, emboldened by the state's pandering, go overboard and interfere with the cultural customs and religious practices of the majority community, resulting in conflict and disorder.

Hindu Dharma and secularism

Hindus have co-existed with other indigenous creeds (Buddhists, Jains, Sikhs and others) without problems for ages, and the peace and harmony prevailing in this great Hindu land was affected only with the advent of Abrahamic faiths, mainly Islam and Christianity, which oppressed the Hindu majority in various ways.

Despite being at the receiving end for several hundred years, the Hindu majority was magnanimous at the time of independence and addressed minorities with concern while framing the Constitution, and ensured their safety, security and religious freedom. India even refrained from enacting a 'Common Civil Code.' The Hindu majority never treated Christians and Muslims as descendents of 'invaders,' but as fellow citizens.

Sanatana Dharma has been the character and culture of this great nation. Hindu culture treats the world as a divine family - Vasudaiva Kutumbakam - and welcomes outsiders as aspects of divinity - Atithi Devo Bhava!

Such exalted concepts make words like 'secularism' hollow and redundant in the Hindu ethos. Monotheistic religions have no space for non-believers (in Allah or Mohammed or Yahweh or Jesus). Christianity introduced the concept of secularism in western society in order to end sectarian fratricide; as Hindus have no concept or tradition of such murderous sectarianism, secularism in India can at best be a quality of administration by the state.

But the post-independence state has failed to understand this imported notion of secularism, and hence, far from steering clear of all religion, successive governments have failed even to treat all religions equally.

The privileged minorities

Minorities have been given extra privileges by an extra-solicitous Constituent Assembly. Beginning with Article 14, up to Article 30, they have been granted many freedoms, with the Hindu majority getting a raw deal. This has emboldened the minorities to provoke, hurt and disrespect the Hindu majority, while working to achieve their religious objectives. This has naturally resulted in repeated conflicts.

India has undergone major demographic changes in the 60 years since independence; the ineptness of Congress and other political parties has lost Hindu bhoomi in many states to minorities. All political parties have failed the Hindus, and particularly after the arrival of the foreigner-led UPA at the centre, a Christian agenda is being silently achieved to the detriment of this Hindu nation. Simultaneously, Muslim fundamentalists are being encouraged to wage war (jihad) against the nation.

India lost huge territory when Pakistan was born, along with the current Bangladesh. Since then, the north-east has been Christianised; Kashmir is in trouble; so is Goa; 50% of Kerala is lost to minorities; large parts of Maharashtra, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh have become Islamic; a large portion of Karnataka, Andhra and Tamil Nadu have become Christianised.

Churches and missionaries of all denominations have become the second largest land owners in the country - next only to the government - and have been building churches and prayer houses anywhere and everywhere, totally disproportionate to their flock. A similar mushrooming of mosques disproportionate to Muslim population is also cause for concern.

History shows that both Islam and Christianity have been more 'political' in nature rather than 'spiritual;' they have spread worldwide through invasions and persecutions. India has borne the brunt of both Islam and Christianity through jihad and conversions respectively. Both religions have been successful, thanks to an inept political class and immature people who get carried away by 'secular' machinations of the political class and the Machiavellian agenda of the clergy of the Abrahamic faiths.

The unholy nexus between pseudo-secular politicians and minority community leaders, aided and abetted by foreign-funded media houses, has caused immense damage to the character of this Hindu nation. When things go beyond tolerance, the majority reacts spontaneously, as happened in Gujarat, Orissa, Karnataka and Jammu (Amarnath). After such reactions, the Hindu majority reverts to its usual tolerant self, hoping that the minority with which conflict took place would also settle down, but the 'Marxist-media-minority' nexus plays ugly 'victimhood' games in the international arena, bringing disrepute to the country.

In between, minority community leaders organize so-called interfaith dialogues to create a false picture of reconciliation, and successfully complete the exercise by forcing their pre-conceived 'resolutions' on the few 'secularised' Hindu leaders, using jugglery of words and making them sign a declaration accepting resolutions advantageous to minorities only.

Roman Catholics vs. other denominations

The Vatican is very clever in conducting such farcical exercises. The prime objective of the Vatican is Christianisation of the whole world. The same was pronounced by Pope John Paul II when he gave a "catholic" call for evangelization of Asia, particularly India, during his visit to the country in November 1999. He had the audacity to give such a call standing on Indian soil, that too, as India's state guest! The Vatican has a history of achieving its objectives by creating divisions among local people leading to conflicts, and later through a healing touch by rehabilitation, education and healthcare.

While other Christian denominations are aggressive and overt in their evangelical activities, Roman Catholics are covert and subtle. The Catholic leadership doesn't restrain the other denominations from indulging in aggressive evangelization, purely for the reason that this differentiation helps them to create concepts like "ethical" and "unethical" conversions, or "forced" and "unforced" (voluntary) conversions.

The Catholic leadership always blames other denominations for "unethical" and "forced" conversions during these so-called interfaith dialogues, in order to convince leaders of other faiths to accept the dangerous concept of "ethical" conversions. It achieved success in one such farcical dialogue at the Vatican in May 2006, where leaders whose names have not been made public in India, went ahead and signed a declaration accepting the resolutions prepared by the Vatican and the World Council of Churches!

There is another motive behind the Vatican's interfaith dialogues. That is to indirectly put pressure and restrictions on other denominations which poach its targeted community for harvesting.

In this fight for "harvest" between various denominations, one question arises - what is the need for Hindus to agree for such dialogues and why should they participate? Hindus don't indulge in blasphemy of other faiths, gods, and scriptures; they don't indulge in conversion activities; they don't interfere in other religious traditions; they don't meddle with other faiths. On the contrary, Hindus have been amicable to others and they have been tolerating the propaganda (however provocative) of other religions.

Dhimmitude and disunity

How are they reciprocated? By hacking bodies (jihad) and harvesting souls (conversions)! Much of the so-called tolerance is simply dhimmitude, the result of being beaten up or beaten down for ages. Dhimmitude resulted from Nehruvian secularism and impacted Hindus so much that they cannot see the monster standing gleefully before their eyes; they are still in deep slumber.

Some religious leaders are averse to identifying themselves and their 'teachings' as 'Hindu;' they are more interested in marketing their wares in a global market, than in spreading dharma among the masses in the remotest hamlets. Some Hindu leaders are so magnanimous (naïve?) that they preach "all faiths are the same"! Faiths and custom-oriented traditional mathams have lost out to personality-oriented and business-oriented 'cults.'

Inculturation techniques

When the hosts are divided, the guest will enjoy! As Hindus stand divided, the Church and Missionaries are deep into an activity called "Inculturation." This is nothing but copying our traditional practices like wearing saffron robes, rudraksha and tulsi malas, pilgrimage by padayatra, astotra and sahasranama archana for Jesus, composing songs on Jesus and Mary on the tune of our devotional hymns, calling Mary as Mariamman, planting crosses and constructing prayer houses and churches (unauthorized) on hills and creating a 'girivalam' path around them and so on more. This is outrageous and provocative, and must be stopped at once.

An organization called "
Shantivanam
" in Tiruchi indulges in such blatant inculturation techniques and has already spread its wings to famous temple towns like Tiruvannamalai to wreak havoc among millions of Hindu devotees. It allegedly interferes with the affairs of Sri Ramana Ashram as well. Such organizations are tacitly supported by church and missionaries. The Hindu scriptures have been distorted to suit biblical messages and such distortions have been distributed through brochures, pamphlets and leaflets. As Hindus were unable to get their act together, the Churches started reaping heavy harvests.

Hindu Dharma Acharya Sabha and Vatican's disregard

It was under these circumstances that the Hindu Dharma Acharya Sabha was formed, thanks to a few noble souls who felt the need for united action and understood the imminent danger facing the nation. The HDAS came into being in 2002 as the apex body to provide leadership and a collective voice for Hindus; at present more than 130 swamis (sampradaya heads) across the country are members.

The first interfaith meeting organised jointly by the Vatican and the World Council of Churches took place in May 2006. The Hindu Dharma Acharya Sabha posted its decisions on its website, but remained remarkably coy about whether or not it participated in the deliberations officially on behalf of the HDAS or not. BJP leader L K Advani's prime acolyte Sudheendra Kulkarni later went on record to say he was there, but nothing more could be gleaned about whom he represented at the gathering.

The Hindu tragedy is that some globe-trotting swamis with western bhaktas have grabbed a media profile while yielding to the devious tactics of Vatican and the World Council of Churches, encouraging them to pursue their evangelical activities unfettered. The Roman Catholic Church came out with a most outrageous 'New Community Bible' christened as the "Indian Bible," which included sacred verses from the Ithihasas, Gita, Vedas and Upanishads.

This Hybrid Bible depicted Virgin Mary barefoot, wearing a sari and sporting a bindi on her forehead, a naked baby Jesus on one shoulder, standing beside Joseph clad in loincloth and turban. It was released in June 2008 and a print run of 30,000 copies sold out in a week in Mumbai; many shops limited distribution to three copies per person. Some famous bookshops in Delhi reported that even "Hindus" bought copies of the Indian Bible!

The hybrid Bible was reportedly conceived in the 1980s. The Indian Catholic clergy deputed over 20 experts on Christianity and Indian Religions to devise a commentary that would help Indian converts – the end product was the so-called "Indian Bible"! The Catholic Bishops Conference of India approved it and Vatican blessed the initiative.

)

This goes to show the weight given by Vatican and the Catholic community to resolutions of even the highly tilted interfaith conference held at the Vatican in May 2006. This reinforces the view that interfaith dialogue is a farce aimed at only deceiving Hindus.

Exactly parallel to the launch of the Indian Bible by the Mumbai Catholic Diocese, the Madras Catholic Diocese inaugurated a Tamil film project on the mythical St. Thomas. The aim was to establish as historical fact the mythology of the arrival of St. Thomas's on the shores of Madras, his supposed acquaintance with the Tamil weaver-saint Thiruvalluvar in Mylapore, and finally his death at the hands of a Tamil Brahmin. Ironically, the present Pope Benedict XVI has categorically refuted the story of St. Thomas's travel to South India. Despite this refutation, the Vatican extended its blessings for the movie project, another instance of the hypocrisy and duplicity of the Church.

GFCH vs. Islam and Christianity

Just six months before the launch of the Indian Bible and inauguration of the St. Thomas film, the Global Foundation for Civilisational Harmony (GFCH) India, was launched in Delhi on 22 January 2008. The function was attended by religious leaders of all faiths, viz. the Dalai Lama, Swami Dayanand Saraswati, Sri Sri Ravishankar, Baba Ramdev, Akal Takht chief Jathedar Joginder Singh Vedanti, Swami Nityanand, Swami Mitrananda, Jain Muni Sumermal, Mumbai Archbishop Cardinal Oswald Gracias, Dar-ul-Uloom Deoband chief Maulana Mohammad Ali Madani, Rabbi Ezekiel Issac Malekar and Swami Prajnan Mitranand. Dr APJ Abdul Kalam delivered the presidential address.

The point being made here is that right after attending the launch of GFCH and supporting its initiatives, Mumbai Cardinal Oswald Gracias went ahead and launched the strange hybrid beast called "Indian Bible," thus making a mockery of civilisational harmony!  He had the temerity to say, "
I am sure this Bible, made in India and for Indians, will bring the word of God closer to millions of our people, not only Christians."

Despite this, many Hindu organisations don't realise the threat Christianity poses to the dharma. The GFCH went on to conduct a "Hindu Spiritual and Service Fair" in February 2009, during the inauguration of which some revered heads spoke about "common" traits and the 'oneness' of all faiths! The GFCH announced intention of conducting such spiritual and service fairs exclusively for Islam and Christianity as well.

The GFCH took the initiative to work with Dar-ul-Uloom Deoband to hold rallies against terrorism and promote religious harmony in different parts of India. The GFCH believed its initiative resulted in
Deoband
issuing a 'Fatwa' against terrorism and describing such violent activities as Un-Islamic. The fatwa was followed by a series of bomb blasts in Jaipur on 13 May 2008, resulting in the death of 63 innocent persons and injuries to over 200, including women and children.

An anti-terrorism global peace conference, organised in New Delhi on 31 May 2008, had the Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind and several other Muslim bodies issue a "
fatwa" against terrorism. As per GFCH, the conference adopted a seven-point declaration condemning the propaganda that "regards terrorism as synonymous with jihad." "There is a world of difference between terrorism and jihad. Jihad is constructive and terrorism is destructive. Jihad is for the establishment of peace… terrorism is the gravest crime as held by Koran and Islam
," the declaration said
(Ref:
http://gfchindia.com/about-us/about-us.html
).

Again this fatwa was followed by serial blasts on 25 July 2008 in Bangalore (2 killed, 25 injured), serial blasts in Ahmedabad on 26 July 2008 (56 killed, over 200 injured), blasts on 13 September 2008 in New Delhi (30 killed, over 100 injured), blasts on 27 September 2008 in Delhi (3 dead, 23 injured) and the Mumbai terror attack for three days between 26 to 29 November 2009, which took the lives of 173 innocent people and injured over 300 persons.

The unabated and continuous terror attacks, despite the so-called fatwas by Islamic organizations, expose the 'drama' played by Deoband and others. The fatwas were a response to silence criticism that Muslim clerics remain silent spectators of Islamic terrorism. It seems the Shia concept of "taqiyaa" (lying for the sake of the faith) was utilized to whitewash the concept of 'jihad' and issue a 'fatwa' condemning it. Clearly and unfortunately, the GFCH was unequal to the political skills of Deoband Dar-ul-Uloom.

A truly significant interfaith dialogue: in whose interest? - III

B.R.Haran

20 June 2009

The interfaith dialogue, Mumbai

As the despicable actions of different Christian denominations continued unabatedly, including alleged complicity in the murder of Hindu saints in Orissa and the blasphemous distortions of Hindu sacred scriptures in Karnataka, the majority community spontaneously reacted with a vengeance as the acts went beyond the limits of tolerance. As expected, the Church played victim and projected Hindus as communal marauders.

The UPA government and the 'secular' media also projected the Hindu majority in a bad light, and the Prime Minister shocked the nation by slavishly assuring the French President instead of telling him not to interfere in India's internal affairs. The secular brigade's act of internationalising India's domestic issues resulted in the proposed visit of the US Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) to Gujarat and Orissa.

However, the Church realised its nefarious activities could have dangerous repercussions and resorted to its trusted method of "interfaith dialogue" to mollify the majority community. An interfaith dialogue was organised in Mumbai on 12-13 June, and the Vatican sent Cardinal Jean-Louis Pierre Tauran, head of the Pontifical Council for Interfaith Dialogue.

Cardinal Oswald Gracias of Indian Bible fame played a pivotal role in arranging this conference and Pedro Lopez Quintana, Vatican envoy to India, Archbishop Felix Machado of Nashik, Bishop Thomas Dabre of Pune, and Bishop Raphy Manjaly of Varanasi, also attended. The Catholic leaders had invited His Holiness Kanchi Sankaracharya Sri Jayendra Saraswati, Sri Sri Ravishankar, Swami Vageeshananda (Ramakrishna Mission), Dadi Janakiji (Prajapati Brahma Kumaris), Swami Nirmalananda Nath (Karnataka), and Swami Chidananda Saraswati (Divine Life Society, Uttaranchal).

Lessons for the Church

The presence of Advani acolyte Sudheendra Kulkarni (who also mysteriously appeared at the May 2006 interfaith dialogue in Italy) at the invitation of Cardinal Oswald Gracias, and the conspicuous absence of some prominent personalities, suggested careful vetting and screening of invitees. Nonetheless, the leadership of Kanchi Acharya was the most significant aspect of this meeting, as he not only had the stature but also the knowledge and understanding of issues involved, along with the required solutions. He also has the capacity to articulate convincingly to arrive at an amicable solution.

As the deliberations centered round communal conflicts, the cause of conflict was examined - conversions. His Holiness Sankaracharya opened the proceedings by bringing out the fact that during Pope Benedict XVI's recent visit to Jerusalem and interfaith dialogue with Jewish religious leaders, the Pope gave an undertaking that, "henceforth it would desist from all missionary and conversion activities" among the Jews. Swami Jayendra Saraswati demanded a similar pact with the Hindu community in India.

The Acharya underscored the importance of faithful adherence to points agreed at the meeting; else failure would result in the futility of such meetings. He reiterated that the Church must reassure the Hindus that it would not hurt their sentiments and wound their sensibilities. Quoting Pope John Paul II's call for planting the Cross in Asia to cause the Second Coming of Jesus, he demanded that the Vatican to explain the rationale for the first coming of Jesus Christ when there was no Christianity or Church to undertake the mission of christianising the world.

Kanchi Acharya strongly condemned the proposed visit of the USCIRF and said that Hindus would not permit such interference in the internal affairs of India. He demanded the setting up of a common pool to collect all foreign funds received by the Church, in order to distribute the same among all social welfare organisations, irrespective of religious affiliation. Calling upon all Hindu organisations to work together to eradicate the menace of conversion, he advised Indians to live with mutual respect and harmony in a shared sense of nationalism which should bind all as one nation, irrespective of religious affiliation.

He called for the immediate stoppage of all devious 'inculturation' methods being adopted by various Christian denominations and the practice of preaching that conversion to Christianity would cure all diseases, which is violative of the DRUGS AND MAGIC REMEDIES ACT, 1954. He welcomed the proposed anti-conversion law in Sri Lanka, mooted by the Joint Council of Buddhist Organisations, and strongly endorsed it as an essential measure.

Emphasising Sanatana Dharma, he said the soul of India  is religious and spiritual, and urged the government to declare India a "Spiritual" country, not a "Secular" country, as secularism is an administrative quality and cannot be the soul of the nation. Kanchi Peiryavaa also condemned the usurping of Hindu scriptures for incorporating them in the so-called 'Indian Bible' and demanded immediate withdrawal of copies of the book; he demanded that government do the needful.

Cardinal lies

During the press conference at the end of the meeting, Cardinal Oswald Gracious, the brain behind the "Indian Bible," denied any knowledge about it! Shri P. Deivamuthu, Editor of the Mumbai-based monthly magazine "Hindu Voice," expressed shock:

"I attended the Press Conference, held today (12th June 2009) at 3.30 p.m. at the Shanmukhananda Hall, King Circle, Mumbai, addressed by Kanchi Shankaracharya Swamiji and the Archbishop of Mumbai, Cardinal Oswald Gracias, subsequent to the Inter-Religious Dialogue held at the same venue.

After their Press Briefing, when question time arrived, I put a question to Cardinal Oswald Gracias: 'In the Indian Community Bible released by Mumbai Catholic Church, you have included hundreds of verses from Vedas and Upanishads. Does this not amount to stealing the intellectual property of Hindus?' The answer given by the Cardinal was 'I am not aware of this.'"

Having himself released the Book - The New Community Bible - the Cardinal had the temerity to say he was not aware of it, in the presence of 30-odd journalists and photographers. If this is not a blatant lie, what is it?

My subsequent question was: 'Does that mean that Bible was written by human beings, and has nothing to do with Jesus Christ?' His answer was: 'It was spoken by the God and written by people.'"

Nevertheless, it remains undeniable that the Catholic leaders were taken aback by Kanchi Acharya's élan and subtle and strong articulation. They promptly put the blame for conversions on other Christian denominations and joined the Acharya in condemning conversions by force and allurement. They agreed to bring the Protestants and other denominations for any future dialogue.

It is learnt that the Church leaders are now awaiting the verdict of the USCIRF, which may visit India in coming weeks, unless advised otherwise by the UPA. They are keen that USCIRF help their 'cause.' Controversial characters like Orissa Archbishop Raphael Cheenath also pinned his hopes on the visit, saying it could be pivotal in restricting 'violence' and ensuring 'protection' of minorities.

Future course of action

The just concluded Hindu-Catholic dialogue is truly significant in the sense that this is the first time the Hindu side has been categorical, authoritative, and to the point, and the Catholic Church has been shown its place in a religiously diplomatic manner.

It now depends on the Church to make the meeting meaningful by abiding with the agreements. Unfortunately, the track record of the Church is not encouraging. And when the political class, particularly the UPA regime and 'secular' media are hand in glove with the Church, nothing constructive can be expected in future. Anyway, the onus lies squarely on the Church and one can only hope it realises the importance of communal amity and acts accordingly.

All Hindu religious, cultural and service organisations also have a huge responsibility to work towards a Hindu renaissance. Sadly, the Hindu community remains content in caste, linguistic and sectarian grooves, ceding ground to other faiths in the public domain.

Hindus need to channel the energies of their respective caste, sampradaya, language group, to a pan-India Hindu cause, to protect the Hindu bhoomi as the only motherland.

Conversion is the 'root cause' of all problems; it shatters peace and harmony. Christians of all denominations must be made to respect the Constitution and stop 'conversions' and other evangelical activities with immediate effect. They must also be prohibited from constructing new Churches and Prayer Houses, which have already far exceeded the flock, much like the disproportionate assets of politicians! Their evangelical congregations must be allowed only in their own premises and not in public places. The masses must be made aware of the covert means of conversion and a strict vigil maintained on the activities of dubious organizations.

Nepal, once a Hindu kingdom, is fast becoming a Christian nation because of losing its 'soul.' Sri Lanka, however, has realized the Christian threat and readied itself to deal with it. India must act like Sri Lanka. The Kanchi Acharya has paved the way and it is the duty of other Hindu organisations to follow suit.

Sethu- sentiments afflicting Karunanidhi and others?

There is an opinion that any one trying to harm the Sethu bund will face hardships.

This opinion gained currency when a series of accidents happened to the dredging vessels sent for dredging the Sethu. The dredging vessel Duck6 sank. It was replaced by the Dredging Corporation of India’s biggest dredging vessel, but its spud broke. Another ship was then sent to retrieve the spud, but its crane snapped and crashed into the sea.

Even the people connected with the project had not been spared. There are reports that they have suffered some losses.

In the light of such sentiments on Sethu, here is a fresh list on those ‘affected’ by Sethu’s inviolability.

This has appeared in Thuglak dated 24-06-2009, in the Q-A section.

Mr Cho has listed the ‘mishaps’ suffered by the DMK’s first family, including Mr Karunanidhi who wanted to destroy Sethu.

The question is from one Mr R. Nanda kumar of Neyveli wondering if the loss of minister-ship for TR Baalu was a result of this ‘Sethu Sentiment’.

In his reply, Mr Cho lists the names of others too (Kanimozhi, Ramdoss, Vaiko and Karunanidhi) for ‘suffering’ in some way.

Setu, NILaa DEvi and magnetic field caused by ocean currents!

An interesting correlation to Setu with the latest reports on what causes magnetic field of earth, has been done by Dr Kalyanraman who called for a study of ocean currents at Sethu in light of these findings.

As one habituated to finding (?) a correlation to Hindu concepts, I am giving here my view on thisJ.

Think of magnetic field, you get reminded of NILaa Devi, one of the 3 consorts of Vishnu, the Protector of the world. NILaa is a hidden force that protects the earth. Holding her as the hump of the ox (earth), Vishnu whizzes past the skies with the earth. This is the bottom line of the NILaa tatwa. This gives an understanding that NILaa is indeed the magnetic cover of the earth.

Of the many posts written on this, the following may interest readers in this context.

http://jayasreesaranathan.blogspot.com/2008/01/secrets-in-thiruppavai-secret-4_9423.html

http://jayasreesaranathan.blogspot.com/2008/01/secrets-in-thiruppavai-secret-4_2717.html

NILaa suktam defines the nature of NILaa as follows:

"Rich in ghee, O Savitr, through thy overlordship,

Be the bounteous region rich in milk, for us.

The firm among the quarters, lady of Vishnu, the mild,

Ruling over this strength, the desirable,

Brhaspati, Matariçvan, Vayu,

The winds blowing together be gracious to us.

O Prop of the sky, supporter of the earth,

Ruling this world, lady of Vishnu"

According to NILaa suktam, fluidity is her nature.

She is blown like wind.

She is the after-born of the earth, which means that she was not there when the earth was formed. She formed after the earth came into existence.

Perhaps with more inputs coming from scientific finding, we can fine tune our understanding of NILaa!

But her birth as later born of earth and as one related to earth shows that the magnetic sheath was created later, due to some developments with reference to earth.

Earth's magnetic field caused by ocean waves?

Scrap Setu project. Study Indian Ocean currents. Create Special Marine Economic Zones for new livelihood opportunities along 8000 km. long coastline extending to 200 kms. from the shoreline (under UN Law of the Sea).

An excellent area for scientific verification of the theory is Setusamudram where the World Ocean Currents Map shows both clockwise and anti-clockwise movements in ocean currents, a phenomenon caused perhaps by the collapsed canyons under Rama Setu. I would suggest to the Pachauri Committee to recommend such a scientific undertaking instead of looking for alternatives to the nautical-eco disaster of unprecedented magnitude called Setu canal project which will destroy the livelihood of millions of coastal people.

The Earth's magnetic field remains a charged mystery

Institute of Physics News

14 June 2009

Magnetic field

400 years of discussion and we're still not sure what creates the Earth's magnetic field, and thus the magnetosphere, despite the importance of the latter as the only buffer between us and deadly solar wind of charged particles (made up of electrons and protons). New research raises question marks about the forces behind the magnetic field and the structure of Earth itself.

The controversial new paper published in New Journal of Physics (co-owned by the Institute of Physics and the German Physical Society), 'Secular variation of the Earth's magnetic field: induced by the ocean flow?', will deflect geophysicists' attention from postulated motion of conducting fluids in the Earth's core, the twentieth century's answer to the mysteries of geomagnetism and magnetosphere.

Professor Gregory Ryskin from the School of Engineering and Applied Science at Northwestern University in Illinois, US, has defied the long-standing convention by applying equations from magnetohydrodynamics to our oceans' salt water (which conducts electricity) and found that the long-term changes (the secular variation) in the Earth's main magnetic field are possibly induced by our oceans' circulation.

With calculations thus confirming Ryskin's suspicions, there were also time and space correlations - specific indications of the integral relationship between the oceans and our magnetospheric buffer. For example, researchers had recorded changes in the intensity of current circulation in the North Atlantic; Ryskin shows that these appear strongly correlated with sharp changes in the rate of geomagnetic secular variation ("geomagnetic jerks").

Tim Smith, senior publisher of the New Journal of Physics, said, "This article is controversial and will no doubt cause vigorous debate, and possibly strong opposition, from some parts of the geomagnetism community. As the author acknowledges, the results by no means constitute a proof but they do suggest the need for further research into the possibility of a direct connection between ocean flow and the secular variation of the geomagnetic field."

In the early 1920s, Einstein highlighted the large challenge that understanding our Magnetosphere poses. It was later suggested that the Earth's magnetic field could be a result of the flow of electrically-conducting fluid deep inside the Earth acting as a dynamo.

In the second half of the twentieth century, the dynamo theory, describing the process through which a rotating, convecting, and electrically conducting fluid acts to maintain a magnetic field, was used to explain how hot iron in the outer core of the Earth creates a magnetosphere.

The journal paper also raises questions about the structure of our Earth's core.

Familiar text book images that illustrate a flow of hot and highly electrically-conducting fluid at the core of the Earth are based on conjecture and could now be rendered invalid. As the flow of fluids at the Earth's core cannot be measured or observed, theories about changes in the magnetosphere have been used, inversely, to infer the existence of such flow at the core of the Earth.

While Ryskin's research looks only at long-term changes in the Earth's magnetic field, he points out that, "If secular variation is caused by the ocean flow, the entire concept of the dynamo operating in the Earth's core is called into question: there exists no other evidence of hydrodynamic flow in the core."

On a practical level, it means the next time you use a compass you might need to thank the seas and oceans for influencing the force necessary to guide the way.

Dr Raymond Shaw, professor of atmospheric physics at Michigan Technological University, said, "It should be kept in mind that the idea Professor Ryskin is proposing in his paper, if valid, has the potential to deem irrelevant the ruling paradigm of geomagnetism, so it will be no surprise to find individuals who are strongly opposed or critical."

Secular variation of the Earth's magnetic field: induced by the ocean flow?

Gregory Ryskin 2009 New J. Phys. 11 063015 (23pp)   doi: 10.1088/1367-2630/11/6/063015

Abstract. Secular variation of the Earth's main magnetic field is believed to originate in the Earth's core. (The main field is operationally defined as comprising spherical harmonics of degree l≤10.) I propose a different mechanism of secular variation: ocean water being a conductor of electricity, the magnetic field induced by the ocean as it flows through the Earth's main field may depend on time and manifest itself globally as secular variation. This proposal is supported by calculation of secular variation using the induction equation of magnetohydrodynamics, the observed main field and the ocean flow field. The predicted secular variation is in rough agreement with that observed. Additional support is provided by the striking temporal correlation (hitherto unsuspected) between the intensity of the North Atlantic oceanic circulation and the rate of secular variation in Western Europe; this explains, in particular, the geomagnetic jerks, and the recently discovered correlation between secular variation and climate. Spatial correlation between ocean currents and secular variation is also strong.
