Vijayakanth’s day out into Delhi polls.

The one news I was curiously looking for in the midst of poll news the whole of yesterday was on how Vijayakanth's men fared in the Delhi elections. My search got paid only today in a small news item carried by TOI Chennai edition. His candidates contesting from 11 constituencies in Delhi managed to gather a wonderful 2285 votes in all, with the lowest number polled being 110 and the highest as 362 votes! Even the high profile constituency of Kejriwal vs Sheila Dikshit did not stop him to think for a while about the chances of his candidate. However his candidate managed to take out 205 votes from getting pocketed by Kejriwal! Perhaps this is one achievement of the Captain's popularity in the constituency.

It is just beyond the realm of normal thinking to probe what goes in the mind of Vijaykanth. He seems to be still living in the tinsel image of a hero of the 1980s whereas the world – I mean India and particularly Delhi had come a long way with new avatars of a hero of Kejrival brand. I don't think he can impress even the rural voters of Tamilnadu with his talks which can only match a Vadivelu cameo. The funny part of it is that from Congress to BJP (TN wing) to Karunanidhi, everyone wants alliance with Vijayakanth. That makes him over-do his 80s hero image and this keeps the vicious circle going.

The best comment on his day out to Delhi was given by Cho Ramasamy in Thuglak some time ago. To a reader's query on what he thinks on Vijayakanth's Delhi- sojourn, he replied "pozhuthu pogalai". For Vijayakanth it was just time pass as he seemed not to know what to do! He could have instead concentrated on Yercaud by poll, but again he did not know what to do or what to talk in Yercaud (This is my version, not Cho's). The problem with the mindset of the 80s hero is that those heroes could not think or speak on their own. They shot to fame through the dialogues written by script writers. Vijayakanth is still frozen in that mould. His worst debacle is in not in the polls but in dealing with other parties. If other parties still keep vying with each other in attracting his attention, all I can say is "Pozhuthu sariyilla" – their time is not good.
