Don’t touch Lord Padmanabha’s treasures

Much hue and cry is being raised about the hidden treasures found in the cellers of Ananatha Padmanaabha swamy temple in Trivandrum. Some have even said that this is ‘hidden black money’ of the Lord!! Did they ever think over why this wealth was hidden and how this wealth got accumulated? It was obviously to escape from the devouring hands of the colonial rulers.

The temples have been the richest ones in this country – richer than the kings. All the best of things – jewels, gems, food items, cloths etc were dedicated to God. The God Himself becomes the custodian of that wealth. Infact there is nothing that a person can claim as his. Everything in Nature and in Creation belongs to Him. Even our very soul, the Athman belongs to Him. That is the basic concept of Hinduism which is a rational explanation on existence. So people of this country including Kings did not claim anything as theirs and dedicated everything to God. That is how the temples became rich places.

It is because the temples were places of wealth; the Muslim invaders targeted the temples. The fact that not one temple of olden past exists in North India today is because they all have been raided and destroyed by the invaders. Only some South Indian temples have escaped the wrath of these barbaric raiders.

Of them, Lord Padmanabha swamy temple is one as it had been under the patronage of Travacore kings until recently. But then this temple has such secret chambers goes to show that they have obviously managed to conceal the wealth of God from the British or their coteries.

Now that this wealth has become known to politicians, we have to be vigilant that they do not loot the wealth on some pretext.

First of all anyone toying with the idea of using this wealth to be distributed to people, must know what happens to
(1) the ones who think so,
(2) who really do so and
(3) who finally enjoy that.

There is an adage in Tamil ‘Kovil soththu kula naasam”.
  • The one who loots or steals and uses the wealth of the Temple will have his lineage terminated within 3 generations.
  • He will lose his wealth in this birth itself and will be born in ‘paamara yoga’ – in utter destitution.
Look at the way Karunanidhi’s family is running around to do propitiations.
Would that help?
How much of public money and even temple money they would have enjoyed illegally?
In this age of Kali, the re-actionary karma would be manifest within one’s life time.

  • All the 3 category people (mentioned above) who get involved in using that wealth would be born with chronic ulcer of the stomach, chronic breathing and lung problems and incurable skin diseases in their next birth.
  • The male lineage will stop after 3 generations and those born after the 3rd generation will be born with defective organelle system.

God’s money do not belong to us – let people have no doubt about it.
Particularly this God of Thiruvanathapuram is known for helping the people get back their lost property!

This boon of Lord Anantha Padmanabha
was told by Lord Krishna to Yudhsitira
when they were exiled after losing all their wealth.
Lord Krishna advised him to do a ritual for Lord Anantha Padmanabha
in the waxing phase of Bhadrapada month
which is also known as Pithru paksha.
Every year a knot is made on the sacred thread to show that the ritual is progressing.
On the 14th year, 14 knots are made and the ritual is completed.
After completion of this ritual, the Pandavas got back their kingdom.

Since there is a practice to regard a day as equivalent of a year,
people do this vratha for 14 days in the Bhadrapada month and
finish it on the 14th day.
Nowadays the vratha is done on the 14th day only (Chathurdasi).
This vratha focusing on Lord Anantha Padmanaabha swamy
was aimed at getting lost goods and wealth,
reuniting with near and dear ones who were not seen for years and
reunion with separated ones.

It is an irony that the wealth that is offered to this Lord
with a view to get back lost wealth,
itself is now speculated to be taken away from the Lord!!

There is special information on this Lord related to the patron kings, the Marthandas.

The very country of Travancore under the ruler ship of Maharaja Marthanda varma was gifted by him to Lord Anantha Padmanabha swamy!
So legally the entire Trivandrum and
adjoining places belong to this Lord.
Please read this eye opening article by Smt Sasikala Teacher in this link :-

The Marthanda connection to this Lord shows another importance of this Lord.
Marthand is the name of Sun.
The Sun God is known by 12 different names for the 12 months
that the Sun moves around the zodiac.
But once in 2 and half years, an additional month comes.
This is done to equate the lunar and solar months
The sun completes one round in 365.25 days
whereas the moon completes in 354 days.
The difference of 11.25 days is accumulated and
comes to 28.15 days in 2 and a half years.
This additional month is the adhik masa.
This is the 13th  month whose lord is Marthanda  (another name for Sun).
In Adhithya Hruthayam,
we will find this name “Marthand”
It means the Lord who creates the world after a deluge!

The oldest temple for Sun as found in India today was dedicated to Marthand
which is in Kashmir

It is really intriguing that a Sun temple is there at a place
where the Sun does not shine overhead.
The reason can be known only from the meaning of Marthand.

After the deluge Vaivasvatha Manu and his people
were led into the river Saraswathy and
reached  Naubhandana in the Himalayas.
They started a fresh life after that.
The first worship they could do was to thank Marthand
who blesses a revival after deluge.
Also they had to offer oblations to the people who died in the deluge.
For that also, Marthand is worshiped.
The adhik masa is devoted to Pithru related ceremonies.
The Lord of the adhik masa is Marthand.
The Marthanda varman of  Tarvancore might have had
some connection with Marthand worshippers of the olden order
in the Saraswathi basin or in the Himalayas.
Their attachment to Lord Padmanabha also shows
a connection to regaining the lost wealth or land or  glory.

Such being the greatness of Lord Padmanabha,
the best course of action is to adorn the deity with traditional jewellery
gifted by the kings and
make each day a Uthsav day for the deity.
When the energy spread by the deity is well kept up through Uthsavs,
the community also gets energized.
The pilgrims and people of the locality will flourish.
This is how the people will become better off and
not by robbing the deity of His riches.
There is enough wealth kept in Swiss banks and
wealth looted by politicians.
The government can very well bring back that wealth and use them for the people.

  1. a very well written post...but is it really true that there is a treasure in the temple..somebody has seen it or it is only a speculation?

  2. The worth may be a matter of speculation. The antiquity of the items make them high valued. But the news is correct as there is Supreme Court order to check the cellers.

if we believe "ellame avan sothu" there will be no such hue & cry over this news or comparison with Tirumalai etc... but in this kaliyugam majority value everything gross & materialistic.

  6. In a way I am glad Kerala does not have a communist govt now and Padmanabha temple is not in TN under the old regime. God knows where the wealth would have gone?
People who ask the wealth be distributed to the needy will not ask same of Vatican or any other religious body.
I have a question however what is it that makes Kerala such a favorite for rich Hindu deities? Despite having a huge Muslim and Christian population, Ayappan, Guruvayoor and now Padmanbha temples are like magnets for devotion and wealth?

The huge muslim and Christian populations originally came from the Hindu population. Hinduism is indigenous to Kerala and whole of Bharath. These temples are there from an unknown past.

  8. 1. King Marthanda Varma usurped the crown from his King Uncle’s son, slaughtering the entire lot including the Nair chieftains who opposed it. The cruelty to the women folk was inhuman. This created extreme public anger against him. To continue would be risky.

    2. He suddenly gifted the kingdom to Padmanabha, and told the people that it is the deity's crown and country now; so fight it at your own peril. The brilliant political trick paid off.

    3. The treasure consists of plunders from conquered small nearby kingdoms, wealth entrusted for safe keeping by kings and Malabar people fleeing from Tippu, confiscations from enemies of the kings etc. It is not gifts to god by devotees.

    4. The Royalty refused to sign the Accession unless they were allowed to keep the Temple as private property [among other real estate, aeroplane etc etc etc]. This was because their private get-away money was stored in the Temple. Duly influenced, VP Menon let them keep it all.

    5. The time of the Accession was the time when the Royalty had been shooting people down for about 16 years under Sir. CP's Divanship. Understandably, the people would have shot them all after Independence. They used the sword on Sir. CP, though.

    6. The Padmanabha treasure thus has nothing divine about it. It was the Royalty’s slush get-away money. Only what is left of it after private utilisation through the years, is now being discovered.

  9. The articles found so far are of Royal nature or that which can be used only for the deity.

We are not sitting judgment on the rule of the kings. For every king who was successful, there were other kings who lost and were dishonoured. So we can not sit judgement on the king of Travancore on how he got the wealth. If we do that, then we have shed our pride on Tamil Kings and consign to flames all those sangam books that praise the victory of the kings and acquisition of wealth by those kings from the losers.

But the fact of matter in the findings in Lord Padmanabha's temple is that they are all now in the custody of the deity. That tells to whom it belongs.

To give some idea of the nature of articles found

    # gold coins dating back thousands of years; gold necklaces nine feet long and weighing about 2.5 kg each; one tonne of the yellow metal in the shape of rice trinkets; sticks made of the yellow metal; sack full of diamonds; gold ropes; thousands of pieces of antique jewellery studded with diamonds and emeralds; crowns and other precious stones in chamber ‘A’.

    # 17 kgs of gold coins dating back to the East India Company period; 18 coins from Napolean’s era; precious stones wrapped in silk bundles; over 1,000 kg of gold in the form of coins and trinkets and a small elephant made of the yellow metal.

    # Sovereigns bearing the 1772 seal indicating the reign of then native king Karthika Thirunal Rama Varma.

All these show that they are either Royalty's wealth or those usable only for the deity. Some of it may also have come from the devotees. But they are the wealth of the deity. Any attempt to take it would spell disaster on the people who do it.

  10. On Mr.Sajan,

in our ancient culture., kings were regarded as representative of Vishnu who protects and subjects had unquestionable faith. people had well defined role & responsibility without greed, selfishness & satisfaction towards life. this contentment gave time & energy to devote in crafts & arts, ancient temples are remaining proofs.

Gems and valuable jewellery are adorned to Lord Vishnu who is also worshipped as Alangara Priyan. It is a sort of Gem Therapy to be described in modern terms. Its very obvious due to political turbulence/invasions treasures have been safeguarded.

  11. Jayasree Madam,

Kerala CM informed that Lord Padmanabha wealth belongs to the Temple. There are posts at http://www.haindavakeralam.com/
which state that within two or three months the temple administration will be taken over by the state government through devaswom board, using the highcourt judgement on the issue.

In light of the same do you foresee the State appropriating temple wealth under pretext of welfare of the masses, especially when you have categorically stated that Indian state will never offer patronage to Sanatana Dharma.

  12. Sajan,

    Wikipedia says something else.

"In earlier years[when?] Padmanabhaswamy Temple and its properties were controlled by eight powerful Pillai feudal lords known as Ettuveetil Pillamar (Lords of the Eight Houses) under the guidance of the Council of Eight and a Half. Later, King Marthanda Varma, the founder of Travancore, successfully suppressed the Ettuveetil Pillais and his cousins following the discovery of conspiracies the Lords were involved in against the Royal House of Travancore. The last major renovation of the Padmanabhaswamy temple was also done by Marthanda Varma. He virtually "dedicated" the kingdom of Travancore to Padmanabha, the deity at the temple, and pledged that he and his descendants would "serve" the kingdom as Padmanabha Dasa, meaning "Servant of the Padmanabha".[3]

Get your story into Wiki then may be it will have some believability.

The treasure belongs to Lord Padmanabha. The King has pledged it to the Lord of the three worlds. Anything that gets associated with Lord Padmanabha attains divinity. Be it a jewel or a flower garland or our very own nature.

    Jai Sree Ram.

It is easy to make grand statements. It another thing to back it up with verifiable facts. How do you know what the treasures are in the first place? Were you there when they opened the vaults? How do you know that the treasures are from plundering from other kings? How did you come to this conclusion that people did not offer all these valuables to Lord Padmanabha?
Please back up your statements with verifiable facts. Opinions will not count as facts.

  14. @Ahish,
If Kerala govt does that, we have to take legal course. Public must be vigilant and step up pressure that all govt controls on Hindu temples anywhere in India must be withdrawn.

  15. Watching "nijam" and mischievousness of the sun family in saying TN has a stake as the temple area was part of TN because Cheras ruled over it . And to talk of using the money to solve electricity problems. Irresponsible reporting creating issues where none exist. What has TN done for the chera land to ask for a claim and who are these people to give advise in how a temple or royal family's money be used?
How about selling those Lamborghini's to solve electricity problems?

  16. Maam,

Thank you for this post as well as for the other interesting posts here.

Am wondering what could be the astrological basis for such treasures to be revealed at this time. First at Puttaparthi and now in Trivandrum. Could this be a precursor to the black money stashed away abroad being brought back to India ?

    Best Regards,
    Anand

  17. @Anandam.

This is not a national trend or something like that. Infact the 'treasure' that is found in Padnabhaswamy temple is actually the wealth of the temple and deity. The existence of that wealth was not known until now and it has come to be known now. That is how we should view it.

The timing of the existence of the wealth of the temple coming to be revealed is dependent on the temple's horoscope and the planetary positions that were there at the time of Bhumi puja of the temple and the consecration of the deity.

In fact the present revealing of the wealth can not be construed as a bad thing compared to the circumstances in which the wealth had to be concealed some 130 years ago. It must have been due to reasons of some distress that the jewels and other things were to be locked up then. Now that they are reveled reminds me of what Lord Anantha Padmanabha Himself stands for - that of getting back the lost wealth!!

The wealth of God is now got back so that they must be adorned on Him and grand uthsavs must be revived.

  18. It can be checked through Daiva Prashnam regarding what has to be done with the wealth. There are other temples also who have enormous wealth pouring into their hundis everyday. Whatever be the case, I agree with the idea that the jewels should be used to adorn the deity. Why should the deity's wealth be used up for public welfare when there is an equal amount in the foreign bank accounts of people as black money. Black money is common man's hard earned money after all.

Padmanabha temple's Vault A has riches worth Rs 10 lakh cr?
    http://news.oneindia.in/2012/07/05/padmanabha-temple-vault-a-has-riches-worth-rs-10-lac-cr-1029784.html

Almost a year ago I read a shattering article (unfortunately I do not have the URL nor the title of the article & not being able to retrieve it on net inspite of vigorous search) stating Government of India (GOI) had engaged curators/analysts from Italy to assess the wealth of Padmanabhswamy Temple.

The author of the article had very cogently theorized that under the guise that treasure requires advance analysis for which high equipments are available only in Europe, the precious treasures from Padmanabhswamy temple could be shipped to Italy. This is with GOI complicity with Italian curators/analysts. The author has theorized this based on the past shipment of artificats to Europe.

The big idea is that this Padmanabhswamy Temple wealth shipped to Europe would be sold in auctions and the most powerful Indian politician / middleman, hangerons would enrich themselves with this looted wealth.

Dr Subramanian Swamy has already documented that most powerful politician from India has smuggled artifacts to Italy and amassed billions from the loot.

Mainstream media has been silent on this issue, understandably they crawl to political masters. Masses who lack internet access may not be sufficiently informed of the tremendous import of the matter.

I am bringing another article to your attention of insiduous designs of Italian Mafia/caucus presiding over Bharat

WHAT TO DO WITH THE PADMANABHA TREASURES

    http://rsajannair.blogspot.in/2011/07/what-to-do-with-padmanabha-treasures.html

As soon as the first UPA government took charge, the Italian PM was one of the first visitors to India. 15 agreements were signed without much publicity. One of the agreements stipulated that Italian companies be ‘consulted’ and allowed to manage all Indian archeological sites and antique stuff. [Another was to contract the entire Chandrayaan to Italian companies]. Sooner or later therefore, the Italians might step in in the matter of the Padmanabha treasures. If Oommen Chandy plays along, he might even overtake AK Anthony and be President of India soon, as reward.

Lord Padmanabh will he ensure nailing the cruel designs of psychopathic brigands ruling Bharat. Astrologically do you foresee an unrest / upheaval in wake of the cruel designs of brigands of Padmanabh Treasure.

  22. Mr Ashish,

Some time ago, somewhere in this blogspot you asked about Arun Jaitly I think. Or it is some one else who asked, I am not sure. I am searching for that comment because I want the time of birth of Jaitley.

I am preparing a statistical analysis astrological features of all PMs of india and influential leaders to arrive at the clues that could help in predicting the probable PM of India. This is done as we dont have reliable birth details of leaders. So based on the date of birth alone, I am analysing whether we can shortlist the leaders who will have a role in India's destiny by becoming the future PM.

In the process, I am pleasantly surprised to see that Arun Jaitley has more points to his favour than anyone else in the current juncture. He, Sushma and Mamata are close in having good strength of the horoscope. Except Sushama, I dont have the authenticated time of birth for the other two. Can you get me for the other two?

However Arun Jaitley has stronger indications of all the three, even in the absence of time of birth. If not now, certainly in future, he will play a role in the destiny of India. Please try to get me the time of birth of Jaitley and Mamata.
