Certainly any mother would insist on it. I read how the mother of the juvenile became so lost, so strained and despondent on hearing what her son had done. I wonder whether men experience such a feeling universally in this kind of crime.

Another thought was on the dress code and preachings of dos and donts for girls /women. The first thing the girl told her mother on seeing her after the assault was that she tried her best to avert the assault. I cried on reading this. Even now tears are coming out of my eyes as I write this. I understood what was utmost on the mind of the girl was that there was nothing wrong on her part and that she tried her best to safe guard herself. These words shattered me because in a mother - daughter relationship, I know what a mother keeps cautioning her daughter and what a daughter would confide in a given situation without being asked. When the day comes that a girl need not have to say like this is the day of true liberation for women.

Jayasree Saranathan https://www.blogger.com/profile/01048252011566427834noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3442555339667770589.post-17619940554324222702013-01-15T20:59:55.583+05:302013-01-15T20:59:55.583+05:30Dear Mr Vaidheeswaran,

The girl's father had let out her name and given permission to mention it. It is her original name. I remember having posted only one article written by some author on Gandhi having erred in choosing Nehru over Patel. In the article titled 'Hate Modi campaign....", I placed on record my view on Gandhi in reply to a reader's comment.

The above article is the 2nd one in my blog commenting on Gandhi's views. Here an indefensible remark on rape victim by Asaram which is comparable to what Gandhi also had said, has been deftly justified by the author Kalavai Venkat.

I strongly believe that Gandhi was sincere in his motives and actions. But judging from hindsight or from the eyes of history, he will have to bear criticism for some mis judgements. That happens to many people who are nevertheless genuine and sincere.

I don't think Gandhi must be put under some sacred shroud saying that his actions can not be scrutinized by history. Even Rama, the God continues to be judged or mis-judged for Sita's agni pareeksha and her exile. It is taught at home from the very childhood that girls should mend their ways to avoid unfortunate things happening to them. I think, it is equally important to teach the boys in the household to respect woman.

Why do men have the freedom to rape women who seem provocatively dressed? Those who blame the victims of rape are indirectly giving the prospective rapists the freedom and audacity to commit such crimes.

Aishunoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3442555339667770589.post-57692342257190196562013-01-14T22:43:37.833+05:302013-01-14T22:43:37.833+05:30Madam,

Gandhiji was an idealist and had profound faith in man's humanity hence its not surpising he thought the attackers would be ashamed. Unfortunately times have changed mankind has gone from inhumane to monstrous behaviour.
Gandhiji was an extraordinary human being if not divine and to keep harping on his actions and speech without context like its fashionable in current generation is disappointing from this blog.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
