Cosmic Krishna in the month of Maargazhi (Maargashirsha / Sagittarius)

Given below this blog is my article in Tamil published in the Maargazhi issue of "Poojari Murasu", circulated among the temple priests of Tamilnadu. The contents of this article are not new to the regular readers as I have written them in English many times in the past in this blogspot.  The article revolves around the importance of the Solar month of Maargazhi (Maargashirasa / Sagittarius) and on why Lord Krishna identified himself as Margashira among the 12 months (in Bhagawad Gita).

The constellation of Sagittarius which the Sun crosses in the month of Maargazhi is found in the centre of the Milky Way galaxy.  This region is a pivotal region around which our galaxy revolves. We along with the Solar system are at two thirds distance from this centre.

We go round this centre 20 times in a Kalpa of Brahma. A Kalpla is equivalent to a day or night of Brhama which has 4.32 billion solar years. We are presently in the middle of this time period of Day Kalpa of Brahma. This means that the semblance of life had started 2.16 billion years ago on earth. The last trace of life on earth will be there until the end of the next 2.16 billion years after which there is going to be a long absence of life for the next 4.32 billion years. By then the earth and solar system would have vanished or changed into some other form. A new set of combinations for life to grow would appear in the direction of Mrigashira star at a distance which can be covered by the current speed of the Milky way galaxy in 6.48 billion years from now.

Here I mentioned Mrigashira star which has lent its name to the month Margazhi / Margashira. Krishna identified himself as that month. Before seeing the rationale of such a notion at cosmic level, let me explain few other notions. 

Hindu Thought does not foresee simultaneous existence of life in physical form in this Universe. There may be parallel universes, guided by their own unique set of Physical laws. But the kind of Physical laws that guide our Universe will be at their optimal combination to sustain life only at the location of the "Umbilical Cord' of Narayana that supports the Lotus on which the Four faced Brahma is seated. This is represented as Meru or the Sapta rishi Mandala which are in the direction of Earth's Northern Pole. In other words, the axis of the earth passes through the Umbilical cord or the stem of the Lotus on which Brahma is seated. There is continuous pumping of Life force through this Umbilical cord / axis which is manifest in Sanatana Dharma flourishing in the region of the axis. This axis passes through India through Ujjain and Kuruskshetra.

Skeptics would question the rationale of this description. They may say that science has found out many planets in other star systems. But it has not found out life in Physical form anywhere. Instead science has come up with a strange finding that the Universal Constant which is crucial for life is not constant at all places of the Universe. It has the right combination only at where we exist! That means the Universe itself has conspired to have life only where we exist!!

This gives an insight into our understanding of Narayana's Umbilical cord holding life. There are galaxies before and after, and  above and under us, but they are like the whorls of the Lotus surrounding the central part in which Brahma is seated. But the path of the Umbilical cord that transfers Life energy is where Life blooms and where Narayana is manifest as Dharma. 

In the above pic, the earth's axis is shown as a black line passing through Lanka, Ujjain and Kurukshetra in India. This route signifies the manifestation of Sanatana Dharma. It might keep shifting from Deep south ( now under the waters of Indian ocean where Daksha Prajapathi flourished in early times ) to Bharat and to the extreme North in Deva land in present day Russia. The land and waters (rivers) of these regions carry that Life energy with which a seeker can elevate himself to the level of God (Brahman / Narayana). Presently Bharath is the nodal location for Dharma.

 

It is significant to note that when a Russian court admitted a petition to ban Bhagawad Gita, all eyes turned to India and everyone including those mired in secular identity chose to defend Gita. It is not just because this is the land of Gita but also because one has to look up at Bharat for anything connected with Hinduism. Wherever that one may be born, one has to come to Bharat to grasp the essence of Sanatana Dharma. In my understanding through astrology and past births as shown in Naadi scripts,  a person born anywhere in this world will have to be born in Bharat or get associated with  / groomed in the principles of Sanatana Dharma if he or she is destined to grow up in spiritual path towards Liberation. 

Therefore the sustenance and protection of this Dharma is a supreme service to the Cosmic purpose which is identified as Narayana. The numerous sub paths and sub-sub paths signified by other Gods and lesser Gods would ultimately steer one through many births to the realization that 'Vasudevam is sarvam ithi'

Those who are bent on changing this nature of this soil of Bharat, will be vanquished in course of time. Even the Buddhists and Jains who sprang from the Hindu fold one time, but spoke a different theme and indulged in mass conversions have been driven out. Such a fate awaits others too who are doing the same thing now. Whatever is churned out in this land of Bharat, ultimately, it is Sanatana Dharma which will survive. Such is the Protective role of Narayana. 

Narayana is the invisible life force by which our earth keeps subsisting in the right place of the Universe (otherwise personified as the Umbilical cord of Narayana) . Narayana is also the life force at the immediate neighborhood. It is as though he is wrapping us in his arms.

This can be depicted as follows. In the first picture of this article we saw the location of our place in the Milky way galaxy. From where we are, we can see only one side / half of this galaxy. What we see is shown as the horoscopy chart.

It can be seen from the above picture, that Sagittarius which the Sun transits in the month of Maargazhi is the centre of our galaxy. Starting from Sagittarius, the 12 months / constellations are headed by the different forms of Narayana, the  Protector God. The Dwadasa naamas starting from Kesava are attributed to the 12 signs / months starting from Sagittarius / Maargazhi. Since this constellation is the centre which is being circumambulated  by us and all the material of this galaxy, it is like the Sanctum sanctorum. No wonder Krishna identified himself as Maargazhi!

Just to the opposite of Maargazhi is located the Mrigashiras star. It is seen  on the one side of Orion constellation. 

According to Hindu Thought, this star shows the direction towards which our galaxy / Universe is heading.  For a scientist, the concept of direction in space is absurd. But such a concept exists and is feasible. It is not in the way we see the directions of the earth. To explain it I have to bring in the Nataraja concept. I will do that in a separate post as it is by itself lengthy. 

For this post, let me just say that the galaxies, though seeming to move in different directions are indeed moving as a huge cluster towards a select direction. That direction is noted by looking at the location of Mrigashira star. Mrigashiras means the head of the antelope. It is as though an antelope is running forward  with its head projected towards the direction of its course. It shows the direction at which we are moving. It also signifies the path or Maarga through which we attain spiritual realization. The month long worship in Maargazhi helps in realization of Narayana which I have explained in old posts on Thiruppavai and Parai (drum).  No wonder Krishna chose to identify himself as Maargashira.

Yet another importance of this month is that the earth will be moving to the farthest point in space away from the centre of the Galaxy, namely Sagittarius. That time is marked as Vaikuntha Ekadasi – the day when we go close to Parama-padam – the realm beyond. As I am writing this, we are indeed in the farthest point – which is the nearest point to Outer space. That point being identified as Parama-padam or Swarga dwara shows that we are trapped in this galaxy, in this solar system and in this earth. The release from this ensures a No-return. This also confirms the view that Life occurs in our galaxy, in the place where we live at present.

மாதங்களில் அவன் மார்கழி!

மார்கழி மாதம் என்றாலே, 'மாதங்களில் நான் மார்கழி' என்று கீதையில் கிருஷ்ணன் சொன்னது நினைவுக்கு வரும். இந்த மாதத்துக்கு அப்படி ஒரு முக்கியத்துவம் ஏன் ஏற்பட்டது என்று தேடினால், இன்றைய விஞ்ஞானம் இன்னும் கண்டுபிடிக்காத விவரங்களும் அதில் அடங்கி இருப்பது தெரிய வரும்.

மிருகசீரிஷம் என்னும் நக்ஷத்திரத்தின் பெயரிலிருந்து மார்கழி என்ற சொல் ஏற்பட்டது. மிருகசீரிஷம் என்றால் 'மானின் தலை' என்பது பொருள். மிருக சீரிஷ நக்ஷத்திரக் கூட்டம், மானின் தலையைப் போல இருக்கிறது. ஒரு மான் துள்ளி ஓடும் போது, தன் தலையை முன்னால் நீட்டிக் கொண்டு ஓடும். அது போல நாமிருக்கும் 'பால் வெளி' என்னும் நக்ஷத்திரக் கூட்டமும், மிருக சீரிஷ நக்ஷத்திரத்தைத் தலையாகக் கொண்டு, அது இருக்கும் திசையில் முன்னோக்கிச் சென்று கொண்டிருக்கிறது. அதாவது விண்வெளியில் நாம் பயணிக்கும் மார்கம் எது என்பதை, இந்த மிருகசீரிஷ நக்ஷத்திரத்தைக் கொண்டு அறியலாம். அதனால், அந்த நக்ஷத்திரத்தில் பௌர்ணமி வரும் மாத்த்தை மார்கழி – அதாவது 'மார்கத்தைக் காட்டும் வழி' – என்று அழைக்கிறோம். 

 

இந்த மார்கம், நக்ஷத்திரங்கள் செல்லும் மார்கம் மட்டுமல்ல. நமது ஆன்மீகப் பயணத்துக்கும் மார்கமாக இருக்கிறது. இந்த மாதத்தில், சூரியன் நாம் இருக்கும் பால் வெளி காலக்ஸியின் மையப் பகுதியை நோக்கிச் சஞ்சரிக்கிறான். அந்த மையப் பகுதியில் இருக்கும் ராசிக்கு தனுர் ராசி என்று பெயர். தனுர் என்றால் வில் என்பது பொருள். இந்த ராசியின் நக்ஷத்திரங்கள் வில் போன்ற அமைப்பில் இருப்பதால், தனுர் ராசி என்ற பெயர் ஏற்பட்ட்து. இதனால் தனுர் ராசியில் சூரியன் சஞ்சரிக்கும் மாதத்திற்கு 'தனுர் மாதம்' என்ற பெயர் வந்தது. எதற்குமே மையம் அல்லது மத்தியப் பகுதி என்பது முக்கியமானது. தன் ஆகர்ஷண சக்தியாலும், தன்னிலிருந்து பிறவற்றைப் படைத்ததினாலும், மையப் பகுதி என்பது ஒரு கர்ப்பக்கிருகம் போல முக்கியத்துவம் வாய்ந்தது. ஒரு கோவிலின் கர்ப்பக் கிரகத்தை மையமாகக் கொண்டு நாம் சுற்றி வருவது போல, தனுர் ராசியை மையமாகக் கொண்டு சூரியனும், நாமும் சுற்றி வருகிறோம். அதனால், தனுர் ராசியில் சூரியன் சஞ்சரிக்கும் காலமான மார்கழி மாதத்தைத் தனக்கொப்பாகக் கிருஷ்ணர் சொல்லியுள்ளார்.

இந்த அமைப்பை நமக்கு மிகவும் பரிச்சயமான ஜாதகக் கட்டத்தின் மூலம் அறியலாம். முதலில் நாம் இருக்கும் பால் வெளி காலக்ஸியின் அமைப்பை அறிவோம்.

 

 

அது ஒரு சுருண்ட வட்டம் போல உள்ளது. அதன் மையப் பகுதியில் தனுர் ராசி உள்ளது. மையத்திலிருந்து ஒரு பக்க விளிம்பில் முக்கால் பங்கு தூரத்தில் நாமிருக்கும் சூரிய மண்டலம் உள்ளது.

 

இந்த அமைப்பில் மையப் பகுதியான தனுர் ராசி வரைதான் நம் கண்ணுக்குத் தெரியும். அதற்கப்பால், வட்ட வடிவ காலக்ஸியின் மறு பாதியை நம்மால் பார்க்க முடியாது. நாம் பார்க்கக்கூடிய விண்வெளி அமைப்பை, ஜாதகக் கட்டத்தில் காண்கிறோம்.

இந்தப் படத்தில் தனுர் ராசியில், நாமிருக்கும் காலக்ஸியின் அடர்த்தியான நக்ஷத்திரக் கூட்டங்கள் கொண்ட மையப் பகுதியைக் காணலாம். அதற்கு நேர் எதிரில் உள்ள மிதுன ராசியில் காலக்ஸியின் விளிம்பு அமைகிறது. விளிம்பில் புதுப் புது நக்ஷத்திரங்கள் உண்டாகிக் கொண்டிருக்கின்றன. அதிலும் அவை இரட்டைப் பிறவிகள் போல இரண்டிரண்டாக உண்டாகிக் கொண்டிருக்கின்றன என்று விஞ்ஞானம் கூறுகிறது. இதை என்றோ அறிந்த நம் முன்னோர்கள், இந்த ராசிக்கு இரட்டையர் என்ற பொருள் கொண்ட 'மிதுனம்' என்று பெயரிட்டிருக்கிறார்கள் என்பது குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது. இந்தக் கட்டங்களில் கடக ராசி இருக்கும் இடத்தில், நாமிருக்கும் சூரிய மண்டலம் இருக்கிறது. தனுர் ராசியிலிருந்து மிதுனம் வரை, நம் காலக்ஸிக்கு அப்பால் உள்ள நக்ஷத்திரங்களைப் பார்க்கிறோம். மிதுனம் தொடங்கி, தனுர் ராசி வரை, நாமிருக்கும் காலக்ஸியில் உள்ள நக்ஷத்திரக் கூட்டங்களைப் பார்க்கிறோம்.

 

மையமாக இருக்கிற தனுர் ராசியிலிருந்து தேவர்களுக்கு நாள் கணக்கு ஆரம்பிக்கிறது. நமக்கு 12 மாதம் என்பது, தேவர்களுக்கு ஒரு நாள் ஆகும். நம்முடைய ஒவ்வொரு மாதமும், தேவர்களுக்கு 2 மணி நேரமாகும். மார்கழி என்பது தேவர்களுக்கு விடியலுக்கு முன் காலை 4 மணி முதல் 6 மணி வரை இருக்கும் காலமாகும். இதைப் பிரம்ம முகூர்த்தம் என்பார்கள். உலகத்தைப் படைத்த பிரம்ம தேவனுக்கான நேரம் அது. அந்த நேரத்தில் செய்யும் ஆழ்ந்த தியானமும், பக்தியும் நமக்கு உயர்வைத் தரும்.  தேவர்களுக்குப் பிரம்ம முகூர்த்தமான மார்கழியில் செய்யும் பக்தி, நம்மை ஆன்மீக மார்கத்தில் அழைத்துச் செல்லும். இதன் காரணமாகவும், மாதங்களில் தன்னை மார்கழியாகக் கிருஷ்ணர் தன்னை அடையாளம் சொல்லியுள்ளார்.

 

 மார்கழி மாதத்தின் மற்றொரு முக்கியத்துவம், வைகுண்ட ஏகாதசியாகும். அன்றைக்குப் பரமபத வாயில் திறக்கிறது என்பது ஐதிகம், பரமபதம் என்பது, ஜீவர்கள் மறு பிறப்பில்லாத நிலையை அடைந்தவுடன், என்றென்றும் இருக்கும் விஷ்ணுபதமாகும். பரமபதம் என்பது வெறும் நம்பிக்கைதான்; விண்வெளியைத் துழாவிப் பார்க்கும் விஞ்ஞானத்தில் அப்படி ஒரு இடமும் தென்படவில்லையே என்று அறிவு ஜீவிகள் கேட்கலாம். ஆனால் பரமபதம் என்பது ஒரு நம்பிக்கை அல்லது கட்டுக் கதை அல்ல என்று காட்டும் வண்ணம், வைகுண்ட ஏகாதசியைப் பற்றிய ஒரு விண்வெளி உண்மை இருக்கிறது. சூரியனைச் சுற்றிக் கொண்டும், சூரியனுடன் தனுர் ராசி இருக்கும் மையப் பகுதியையையும் சுற்றி வரும் நமது பூமியானது, வைகுண்ட ஏகாதசியன்று, தனுர் ராசியான மையப் பகுதியிலிருந்து, அதிக பட்ச தூரம் விலகிச் செல்கிறது என்று கண்டு பிடித்துள்ளார்கள். வருடத்தின் பிற நாட்களில் அந்த தூரத்துக்குள்தான் பூமி சஞ்சரிக்கிறது. ஆனால் வைகுண்ட ஏகாதசியன்று நாமிருக்கும் காலக்ஸியை விட்டு வெளியேறுவதைப் போல, அதிக தொலைவு செல்கிறோம்.

இந்த காலக்ஸியில் நாம் கட்டுண்டு கிடப்பது போல வாழ்கிறோம். பிறவிப் பிணியில் சிக்குண்டு, மீண்டும் மீண்டும் இங்குள்ள பூமியில் பிறந்து உழல்கிறோம். அப்படிப்பட்ட காலக்ஸியிலிருந்து அதிகபட்ச தூரம் விலகிச் செல்வது என்பது, நாம் பிறக்கும் இந்தப் பால் வெளி காலக்ஸியின் பிடியிலிருந்தும், பிறவிப் பிணியிலிருந்தும் விலகி செல்வதற்கு ஒப்பாகும். இங்கிருந்து விலகிச் சென்றால் அது பரமபதத்துக்கு அருகில் செல்வது போலாகும். இதை உணர்த்த, நம் காலக்ஸியின் மையத்திலிருந்து அதிக தூரம் விலகிச் செல்லும் நாளை வைகுண்ட ஏகாதசி என்று அழைத்து, அன்றைக்கு உபவாசமும், தியானமும் செய்வது நல்லது என்றும், அதன் பயனாக பரமபதம் செல்வது எளிது என்றும் உருவாக்கி வைத்துள்ள நம் முன்னோர்களது அறிவியல் அறிவும், ஆன்மீக நோக்கும் நம்மை வியக்க வைக்கிறது. இப்படிப்பட்ட முக்கியத்துவங்கள் கொண்ட மார்கழி மாதத்தைத் தனக்கு ஒப்பாகக் கிருஷ்ணர் சொன்னதை நினைவில் கொண்டு, அந்த  மாலவனைப் போற்றி நன்மை பெறுவோமாக!
