Tamilnadu must vote for Jayalalithaa!

{This article was written before the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. My opinion is same this time too  that JJ must be voted back to power in May 2016 Assembly elections}

This is a compilation of my comments aired in another article (read here) on who we should vote for in Tamilnadu. Many readers of my blog may be upset with what I am going to write here, but we, the voters of Tamilnadu must think and do what is good for us in Tamilnadu.

I was actually toying with the idea of writing a blog with the title “Modi has campaigned for Jayalalithaa in TN

Yes Modi has strengthened the resolve of the constituency that decides the winner, to vote for – ADMK!!!

He made two mistakes.

Mistake no 1:-

Meeting Rajini at the thick of the election campaign. He could have met him any time before or after elections, but the timing is ill- conceived or ill-advised. Following this, his meeting with Vijay made even the educated middle class to squirm. TN has come a long way having gone through the travails of filmi influence on voters. It is time we move on from filmi influence. But Modi is trying to resurrect it! Should we need it any more?

Earlier TN BJP cobbled up an alliance with all the self-seeking leaders who deserved to be shunned. BJP gave them life by this alliance. But people quipped it as a TN BJP affair in trying to get a foot hold for itself in the melee. But as a tall leader, Modi must have been guarded in his actions. His meeting with Rajini and Vijay is ill advised. Does Modi want the TN voter to be influenced by the film stars in voting? Even educated people did not like this act of Modi. Modi praised kalam in a meeting. Had he met him that would have set a high standard that is expected of him. But he was after select film personalities. Disgusting.

Mistake no 2:-

Usually Modi had not spoken on specifics in poll meetings. It used to be a general oration. In the same vein his equating of ADMK with DMK and blaming them as doing vindictive politics shows once again that he is not on his own in thinking but led by others.

Within 24 hours of this speech in TN, the same Modi said that he would probe the corruption cases of Congress Govt and get them punished within a year after assuming office. Is this not vindictiveness? What he accused ADMK and DMK, he is himself saying that he would do.

If ADMK had not done anything for the people, as he said then, why did he praise JJ Govt in Hyderabad a few months ago, saying that if people are not willing to see Gujarat model for growth, they can look at TN model that has done very well for growth. Was he wrong then or now?

The effect of these two mistakes is that JJ retaliated and gave out statistics on how TN is ahead of Gujarat in the most crucial human indices. The next day TOI made it a headline with more info on how TN is well ahead of Gujarat. JJ has started asking pointed questions for which BJP cannot answer. This turn of events is well noted by the core constituency including middle class who had to choose between ADMK and BJP. They are very clear at this moment, with few days to vote.

Who can get things for TN, JJ with 40 seats or JJ with 25 seats? Can Vaiko or Sudheesh get Cauvery water or Mullai periyar water to TN, when a dispute arises? They would perform worse than the DMK in such a situation as they owe their seats and status to the BJP and will be towing the BJP line. Good or bad, JJ has earned a name as a strong willed person, as a go-getter and an unflinching fighter. Now that she has been forced to talk these issues, people are reminded of what she can do which others can’t. This is consolidation of support for her. JJ has shown that she would not even bother if it is Modi or anybody when it comes to getting the benefits for the state. Fans of Modi may not  grasp this. But an average person on the street has been reassured of these specifics from JJ.

Who are these average persons that I am talking about?

All of us are speaking from the safety and comfort of our lives and sitting in front of the computer. A Rahul Kanwal goes to a hotel and tries to fathom the mind of an elite voter. But how many of us know the reality check at the streets, at the millions of homes of the lower middle class and the poor for whom the impact of DMK and ADMK may mean a world of difference?

The common refrain from an elite voter is that that we must not have the 2 Kazhagams and must have an alternative. The same dialogue was spoken two terms ago and Vijaykanth (VK) sprang up with NO specific goals of public welfare but only with personal goals. When people realised that he had to be shown the door, BJP had given a new lease of life to him. All the elements that have to be shunned had been befriended by the TN BJP. On the day this alliance was inked, many people made up their mind on whom not to vote. Even BJP sympathisers won’t vote for these parties. Even the opinion polls that give 3 or 4 seats to BJP alliance, does not give to any of the alliance partners including Vaiko. Politicians make mistakes, TN BJP made the mistake, even Modi made mistakes, but people at the ground level don’t.

The core voter base is watching all the news - what Modi says, what JJ says and what the coterie of BJP says and more importantly what OPINION POLLS say - all thanks to the first freebie given by MK, that is Television.

The opinion polls say that JJ would get 25. Who would get the rest? It is DMK according to opinion polls! A Modi fan would gloat over the fall of projected seats for JJ, but the common man on the street sees the other message - that DMK is rising! He cannot and would not sit quiet at this projection. Talk to any common man anywhere in TN. Once he starts trusting you he would tell why this news is bad for them and why they all have to vote for JJ to keep off DMK.

JJ in power means 2 main things to them which we are not at all bothered about.
They are

(1)    police that does not harass but is easy to approach and quick to respond to their problems and
(2)     End to rowdyism.

If JJ is weakened, these two would go averse which would affect their life from all sides. In the last term of DMK these two adversely affected even the middle class people. Even earlier too the lower and middle class were aware of the dangers of DMK and efficacy of JJ in checking DMK. But they were confused then by the kind of justification that people are giving now ( no dravidian party but go for a third alternative). That is why last time, DMK was able to form a govt, though a minority one. For a decade now, JJ has proved to be a vital check against the issues that affect the lives of these people. So they won’t mistakes any longer now.

Every time an Opinion poll says, that JJ would get less and DMK would get some, their resolve increases that they must stop the surge of DMK. That is happening now in TN.

In this scenario, what does Modi offer? I was asked this question? If these people vote him by voting to Vijaykanth or Vaiko or even a well known BJP leader like La. Ganesan, can they assure them what they now enjoy under JJ. What is the guarantee that Modi / BJP would not ally with DMK and offer berths to Dayanaidhi Maran or Balu? An auto driver asked me this. Past history is like that. Murasoli maran was made a minister by Vajpayee. It is from Maran, the DMK kept growing in fine-tuning corruption, which was ultimately followed by Congees in UPA 1 and 2. By now aligning with fit-to-discarded parties, BJP had shown its prowess and readiness in aligning with DMK if it needs. But ADMK is the only party that would not align with DMK at any time!!!

Can one believe in BJP after seeing it holding hands with VK after all his running after DMK + Congress and all talks of suitcases? Can anyone think that people would simply forget all these tamasha and believe that VK is sanitised after having aligned with BJP? May be people like us believe that VK and Vaiko are great after joining hands with BJP. We are padiccha muttal (educated fools). But they (core voters) are unlettered wise people. Only educated fools could bring out an outcome as was seen in Delhi assembly polls!

Few of them I chatted with said a salient point. They said today they may be toiling in the street to make a living. But their daughters are getting education. (Generally the people I talked to, talk high about their Daughters – something you can see in TN and not even in Gujarat as I find this as a sign of better treatment of females. The male-female sex ratio is above the national average in TN.) The girls read everything and tell them who says what. (May be the boys don’t read newspapers / magazines and don’t bother to discuss with parents). People say Modi wave - Modi wave. They asked so what? What do they get by voting him in this poll when they are already getting what they want from JJ. They are not for upsetting the present peace or trying new options. JJ has sent clear signals in every speech on what she can give. The confidence that she has given was not given by any other leader in TN.

Coming to the points raised by a reader:

Tasmac:-

The first culprit is MK. Once the liquor started flowing, it is not easy to control it. No party even BJP would control it. The data in the current poll scenario is that one peg, money (Rs 100 to 300) and chicken biriyani are the deals per person to attend the poll meeting of leaders. On the day of a meeting in a particular place, the Tasmac sales shoot up high. The reason is obvious. A survey was done by TOI noting down the increase in sales in Tasmac in and around the area of the venue of meeting. Do you know who leads the list? It is Modi’s meeting in vandalur, the first meeting he spoke for this polls. The increase was 5 crore rupees on that day in Tasmacs in and around Vandalur. The next slots are occupied by – you know very well- Vijayakanth’s meeting venues. Then comes Anbumani. JJ comes last with just 11 or 16 lakhs increase. One reason for this low in JJ’s meeting could be that more women attend the meeting than men! Now tell me who are using or misusing Tasmac?

Freebies:-

Here also, MK was the first culprit. When JJ was almost comfortable in coming back, MK announced free TV and was seconded by Chidambaram and the results turned topsy turvy. This was unbelievable at that time. But JJ realised the potential of DMK in using this, and she did not leave out anything to be used by MK in the next (last) elections. Hers was a sequel and not original. If only DMK had made any worthy freebie, he would have stolen the results from her. So blame MK, blame the people before training your guns on JJ. But then JJ was clever in converting many of them as productive capital. Cattle and goats are really a good investment as we could see immediate surge in quality of Aavin milk and Aavin profits after that. That is a very good economic recycling. For the information the USA gives many free allowances from birth to death. Even college students have to pay heavy amounts as part of their tuition fees to pay for old age pension scheme of the American Govt.

JJ is not a Rajaji or Kamaraj. But a Rajaji could not control MK when he opened the liquor in the State. JJ had been the only leader after MGR, capable of stopping MK. As long as MK is there, JJ must be there to stop him, or else the State would suffer. VK had no qualms in joining hands with MK. Even BJP would go to him just for the sake of power.

Today the core constituency is well aware of who is who and who is to be strengthened. The more they hear about surge of BJP or DMK, the more resolved they are in keeping them out. They say that throughout TN, this would happen. They may not tell this if someone asks. The initial reaction is that they vote for DMK! That is because of the fear of dada-giri. They would not tell so easily unless they trust you.

Even TOI carries out a survey of the people who attend the meetings. During poll times, it is busy time for them all. Money + booze + biriyani is the remuneration they get. No discrimination in doing this work (attending meetings) among political parties. Nowadays they expect Mutton biriyani instead of chicken biriyani as it is costly and therefore not affordable by them. They are ready to attend any meeting and shout slogans. But ask them to whom they would vote. They have their own choices – not influenced by the meetings they attend. They have already made up their choices on sound logic which you and I cannot think from what we read from the computer.

Until now JJ has not made any wrong move or wrong speech. She is the only leader in the country who had not made any direct or indirect appeal for vote on caste or religion basis. This was glaringly seen in her campaign in Triplicane day before. Anyone in her place could have been tempted to talk appeasingly to Muslims who are 30% of the electorate there and who congregated in large numbers in that campaign. She did not talk anything for Muslims there which was well noted by the Muslim residents themselves. Is this not the right way to take the country forward? Name one leader who had not spoken on caste or communal lines.

Those calculations are of course there in choosing the candidates for all parties. But JJ had kept up the campaign above all these things which she herself mentioned in her last campaign stop yesterday.

She has been guarded in her response to BJP all along. Even when the Tauheed faction of Muslims left her and offered their support to MK on the pretext that JJ had not spoken anything on BJP, she did not speak against BJP. She did not even stop them. But only after Modi tweeted that he was going to meet Rajini that evening, she took up the Cauvery issue in the meeting that evening shortly before Modi met Rajini. Modi had vitiated the atmosphere unnecessarily and mindlessly. I strongly doubt that he had been advised so by vested interests to drive a wedge between him and JJ.

TN BJP is perfectly right in trying to cash in on Modi's popularity to broaden its base. I have consciously mentioned TN BJP, not just BJP  in my comments. Even JJ did not bother about the alliance that TN BJP was making. But as a tall leader Modi must have been guarded in his actions and speech.

My grouse is that he has given in to filmi influence which TN has suffered too long and needs to shrug itself out of it. Principled stand is what Modi signifies. He must not give room for anything otherwise of it.

Common complaints against Jayalalithaa answered:-
Tasmac:-

I hope readers know the history of it. If not, let them google search to know it. Initially no one was for it. It was MGR, who did not even show himself as drinking in movies, started it. MGR had no option at that time to bring liquor trade under govt control. Even then the liquor lobby and cartelisation was powerful and it grew up as a moneyed mafia. On the other side illicit liquor was thriving to cater to poor people. I very well remember those days when a family in Dharmapuri died after consuming illicit liquor. The pathos was such that mothers fed illicit liquor to babies to beat hunger. They all died. In the early 2000s I myself came across a couple of businessmen who wanted to get into liquor trade, approaching me for astrological counsel. I advised them not to go for it. I am saying this here to drive home the point how liquor trade was growing in a pace as to engulf entire State.

In that scenario, to arrest the indiscriminate growth of liquor trade, liquor mafia and fleecing of people, JJ stopped retailing by private people and brought it under govt control. That is how the present Tasmac was born. Making profit out of it was not the purpose of the govt when it was started. But the number of outlets proliferated in MK’s period such that the shops were set up near schools and temples and at every bus stop. It was MK who used the Tasmac money to pay for the freebies. The freebie culture started by him could not be stopped in the next term (present) and it won’t go over to next term as there is nothing to offer!! Freebie has reached the saturation and Tasmac money would find other uses in future.

Only if awareness level increases in liquor consumption, Tasmac growth can be reduced. There is always the danger of illicit liquor coming in and liquor barons growing up if the Govt closes Tasmac. Without check on these two, it is not possible to close it once for all. They can be reduced and are getting reduced now. There is a court order too not to have them on highways. Like this the number of outlets must be reduced while taking care that no one resorts to illicit distillery. This is the background. Who owns the distilleries is something which no one can isolate someone to blame.

Freebies:-

Let me know who will resist the temptation to take up the freebie. We have a choice not to take the freebies. But I didn’t see anyone not taking it. Why even well off people took the TV? It’s all in man’s greediness. Basic human nature even among educated class is such that. Then we can’t blame the poor for whom it is something worthy. But once MK exits, things like this will largely be out of place.

If JJ had not given the list of freebies, MK would have taken up some and garnered votes. It was a necessary evil that JJ had to do. In the previous election she didn’t do it. But even now she is going in a measured pace in distribution. But I have one thing to say. I do see poor people really benefited by the things. We can see how their lifestyle had improved with the freebies. In their families the mothers had to toil at work and at home.  For the kind of physical work they do, the freebies are definitely a boon. It is up to us, who can afford those items not to claim them. One can do if they choose to. If JJ makes any conditions on freebie distribution, hell will break loose on her, insinuated by MK and other politicians.

Looting natural resources:

We are going by media reports. There are conflicting reports on all these issues including Sagayam too. But JJ of the current times, is above personal goals. There is absolutely no need for her amass wealth by dubious means.
Rain water harvesting:

Don’t blame JJ for it. She was the architect of it. It is there in govt offices. It is insisted in building plan. Lot of maraamath works are also happening. On agriculture, water sources, irrigation – JJ is doing whatever can be done. If someone is  blaming her for agriculture, rural economy and irrigation, it means they are ill-informed.

Rajiv killers:-

I have written my opinion here:- http://vijayvaani.com/ArticleDisplay.aspx?aid=3117  Today even judiciary thinks that after a certain long years in jail, if there is good behaviour, they can be released. On Dharmic side (for which readers come to my blog to know my views), no one is permanently condemned for an offense. If so, there is no meaning in prayers, in seeking pariharas and prayaschitthas from our paapam. Even God is known to pardon sinners who have suffered in retribution and reformed. If we are to suffer for our sins wholesome, our lives would be very unbearable. It is by prayers, good conduct and repentance we are leading better lives – even though we are not aware of it.

Whether Rajiv killers expressed remorse or not:-

Their role in the conspiracy, the court charges and subsequent bungling in the case of Perarivalan are in public domain. The last one (bungling in Perarivalan’s complicity) is simply unacceptable in terms of fair justice.

On SL issue, JJ was dead against LTTE – which is 100% justified. But once LTTE is no longer there, she started giving voice for SL Tamils.

On electricity:-

What a phenomenal problem it was when she took over! How can it be solved entirely in 3 years? I hope people are following the details of what she did and the status of power generating units. She is not doing nothing as MK. Even if Modi is in her place he could have only what she has done. One difference with Gujarat is that Modi is not offering free electricity, but in TN nearly 30% of the consumption is given free. When something is free, people tend to over use it. Free electricity was started before JJ. Once something was given free, it is not possible to withdraw it. People’s and political parties’ cooperation must be there. Another thing, electricity charges in TN are lower than in Gujarat and many other states.

When Modi said in the last before previous election in Gujarat that he will not give free electricity but give 24 x 7 electricity, no opposition party opposed it or instigated the people against it. Would any opposition party do so in TN if JJ makes a similar announcement? If we do away with free electricity, we also can have 24X 7 electric supply.

JJ blaming others on electricity:-
There is nearly 25% support base for DMK in TN which is intact. It was reported that it is possible that if someone (from them or  congress loyalist) working in the generating units wants to stall production, he can just add a bucket of water in a particular unit to stop production which will take a month resume. This was reported in newspapers. The nature of problems in some units point out to such sabotage, it is told by engineers.
Price rise:-

Amma eateries are one of JJ’s efforts to protect the poor from price rise. This is something great according to me. We see scores of construction workers – particularly women – taking a Tiffin box with rice cooked the previous night for work. This eatery is a boon to them all. We coolly say ‘thani manithanukku unavillai enil jagaththinai azhitthiduvOm’ – but do nothing to anyone to fill their stomach. As per Hindu way of life each family must feed atleast one stranger before taking their meal. We don’t do it. Many of us who do it, give food for an exchange of some work. In Tamil Sangam literature, we read about Pasi-p-piNi marutthuvan Pannan who was praised by a king in that song. Such mentality helped to eradicate hunger in those days. We, people also have a responsibility to society and as such we must feed at least one person a day without expectation. In the absence of this culture, Amma eatery is a boon.

*****************

This morning Modi tweeted against these people (whom I mentioned in my comment yesterday night) and warned them not to vitiate the theme of the campaign. It appears that there is a hidden work going against Modi's ascent to power. Once after it is made sure that BJP is going to be the single largest party, work is being done to make sure that the tally falls short of simple majority. This is aimed at stopping Modi to claim PM post. That is why I am saying that Modi had been ill-advised by some to meet Rajini and accuse JJ which in his own mind, I dont think, Modi would have done. Why should they work against Modi is a question.

Today Modi has no friend from any regional party of stature. Unnecessarily he had spoiled the equation with JJ. All that he can have is the seats in Hindi belt where BJP and Congress are face to face with each other. Heavy polarization of Muslims against BJP is happening in the until now conducted elections. Muslims are doing tactical voting.

We in TN also must do tactical voting to keep off DMK. Love for Modi would harm TN at this juncture. Somehow BJP led or BJP backed govt would be formed in the centre. But don't throw mud on our heads in TN. Whichever govt comes in the centre, JJ would join it. She must be in commanding position in that set up if we have to get benefits for TN.

In TN, the opinion polls are a farce as we saw a different result in Exit polls in the assembly elections which was opposite of what people actually voted. The people for whom the elections matter (ADMK or DMK) would not speak out their mind but show in the ballot box. Even as I was writing my comments yesterday, JJ had spoken same thing in South chennai. She opened her speech with a declaration that she did not speak on caste, religion or such things but only on issues throughout the campaign. That is a well noted point by many sections of people but not reported in the press. The Tauheed Muslims and others have pledged their support to her so also many groups in the last couple of days.

Notable is the visit of Pujaris sanga to meet JJ at her residence yesterday. This sanga has 35 to 50 lakh members who are pujaris of all the village temples in TN. This sanga is promoted by none other than VHP, presided over by Togadia! The silently happening thing in TN is that VHP that has control over all temples of TN through the Pujaris is not supporting BJP and its alliance partners TN. They have pledged their support to JJ.

Two reasons for it:- (1) Hindu temples and issues around Hindu temples are safe under JJ. If JJ is weakened, all the work that is going on to revive Hindus, Hindu temples and Hinduism in TN are going to be affected. (2) Togadia - Modi who were best buddies once, parted when Modi aspired for national ambitions. Read today's TOI to know the background. It is something between them that they have to solve.

Let me remind the readers a basic reality. India's problems cannot be solved by a single man or in a few years. Modi is projecting himself as a single man govt! Of course Modi is a sincere person and we believe him. At the same time he does not have solutions to many problems. As far as TN is concerned, he did not even assure anything on electricity or on cauvery issue. Only the TN govt has to do them - of course with a friendly central govt. Any govt under any one that is to come in the centre would heed to TN's hopes and demands only if JJ has numbers. Let us look at our home before looking at Indian scenario.

  1. BJP made a blunder in its alliances in TN.Also TN BJP has no recognisable leader and has absolutely done nothing of prominence.I dont see Modi as a factor in TN. Agree with you on the women crowd for JJ campaigns its very obvious even on TV.
JJ has done very well in 3 years people need to show some patience and allow it to reach a conclusion. Modi had 3 terms, she has not even completed one. Also the opposition in TN is much stronger than one in Gujarat to push changes and unlike BJP which forms a backbone to Modi, JJ is the backbone for ADMK. So things are much more difficult for her.

  2. Madam

In fact, as a regular reader of your blog, am not at all upset seeing what you have written.

1.) Meeting the film stars is Modi's mistake! eh? If that is the case, many feel, befriending one ex-actress was his biggest mistake(koodaa natpu). Meeting the friendly Rajini or courteous Vijay who volunteered are most welcome actually.

2.) Thank God, NaMo has good people around him and they have advised him to learn from the sufferings of Vajapayee. Better not to rely on the support of black mailers for the sake of forming government at the centre.

3.) M.Karunanidhi only advised JJ to open bars even near the schools and colleges and in highways. When she is hell bent to shut down even the library and the assmebly building, tasmac alone she is continuing because of Karuna.

4.) Karunanidhi only advised her to build mani mandapam for Tipu Sultan who slaughtered thousands of devout Hindus. If it is built, Jayashree ji, you wear a burqa and offer prayers there.

5.) Even a kid knows what is the current law and order situation in TN.

Your post gives the feeling of watching the campaign trail of actress vindhya and other 3rd rate artists who blabber using uncouth, laughable language. You better join them instead of writing such blog posts. You are worth only that much.

I started following your blog only because you write about scriptures. Now it appears like devil quoting scriptures. When you have started writing against Shri. Narendra Modi, it is even a sin to read what you write. You have left many of your worthy readers sighing and fuming. Shame on you!!

  3. While I agree with most of what you have written in your article, the one thorn in my mind is how Jayalalitha withdrew support to the government in the centre suddenly in the past, leading to elections all over again and a huge cost to the economy. That to me, is not a mark of responsibility on the part of a leader. She has changed a lot since then and I hope that in the coming month, even if AIADMK's support is needed to form a governement in the centre, difference in issues will be sorted out in a more responsible manner, without resorting to withdrawal of support

  4. @ Srikrishna Sharma,

You have the right to hold on to your opinions.

    (1) Meeting Rajini and Vijay - well, it shows that the first shot was made by Modi to spoil the good relations with JJ. I asked - was he led by some wrong counsel to do that. He has more to lose if he falls of short of 272 but others in BJP have everything to gain by making him friendless at that crucial juncture. Let me quote from Scriptures to explain this. Very often a line appears in Valmiki Ramayana that there is no guarantee for victory in any fight. Therefore one must tread with caution. Modi failed to tread with caution.

    (2) Absolute power corrupts. Similarly absolute hero worship that is happening on Modi is not good for him. There should be checks. JJ of today is totally selfless. Any blackmailing she would do will be for the sake of people of TN.

(3)Tasmac near colleges and schools were all started by MK. On highways, there is a court ruling against them. Only through such means, Tasmac must be regularized and reduced.

    On library and assembly building:-

For the kind of harm Karunanidhi has done to nearly 3 generations of people, in spoiling their attitude, mentality, thoughts and actions and to hordes of other issues, there should remain nothing in history and in posterity in the name of Karunanidhi as haivng done something good.

Even in the case of library, I am sure you have visited that. A huge picture of mankind / Tamil having sprung from Middle east ancestors is depicted in that which is totally a wrong interpretation of Tamils' origins. He has spoiled even Tamil Thought and literature.

The assembly has started functioning as a hospital which is really superb in its functioning. JJ made sure that only talented doctors are recruited there which was opposed by MK who wanted reservation to be used to recruit them. She did this by employing doctors on contract basis which does not come under reservation. How she is working for promoting excellence on the one hand and also social justice on the other hand is something only History will write. The entire media is DMK tainted and our people read them without applying thinking - a habit that is promoted by our school / education system of just blindly reading and parroting that but not thinking.

    (4) Tippu's mani mandapam:-

These things were taken up after due representations from interest groups. If she had been aware of it, I dont think she would have announced it.
    http://books.google.co.in/books?id=FcMrAwAAQBAJ&pg=PR9&lpg=PR9&dq=Mani+mandapam+for+Tippu&source=bl&ots=mIjbbWQNKi&sig=oC2oZZ0vfr1HI7azT0zv6-OsaCU&hl=en&sa=X&ei=MVpXU4GiIcGCrgeO9YGwCQ&ved=0CDoQ6AEwAg#v=onepage&q=Mani%20mandapam%20for%20Tippu&f=false

This involves re-writing the history. It is still in your school books that Tippu was a freedom fighter. Lot of awareness must be done to not have a repeat of things like this.

If MK is ruling now, he would have done more of this kind for appeasement.

    (5) Law and order:- which kid knows what?

Writing against Modi:- No one is above board. You talk about 'sin'. There is the biggest 'sin' that I have not written openly - The Indian public is not mature enough to understand the sin in it. Perhaps when a proper context comes I will write it. It is that 'sin' that made me look critically at Modi.

  5. Another thing Mr Srikrishna,

I am not writing for developing readership or for making someone happy and feel good. Absolutely I have no motives and ambitions. This blog is a medium for me to write down what I think is right. Its up to any one to accept or reject or follow or fume. But as for me I am being honest in thought based on discriminatory sense of right from wrong. A thing which is right at some time, may not be right at another time. Capturing that is the discriminatory sense between right and wrong.

  6. JJ even after 3 years in government is not able to solve power cut and water problem is severe in down south as she has no vision like modi since she comes out to see the people only during the election campaign time. she will bite the dust on 16th may when you will know the results would end up just 20 seats max. Bjp alliance would score about 6-7 seats and i pray to god that Modi should not be in a position to seek the support of JJ after the elections.

  7. @ unknown.

JJ gave an interview to Arnab (Time Now) after the assembly elections in 2011 in which she talked about her withdrawal from Vajpayee govt. She did admit that she was immature in politics then. She also said that she has grown more mature in politics and would not repeat such things. JJ in this 3rd term is very careful and measured in her talks and actions.

  8. Dear Madam,

Its most unfortunate situation in TN result has become unpredictable.

while JJ has credentials comparing her achievements for general elections & with Modi doesn't match simply.

If meeting Rajini (who is not at all a threat to JJ) bewilders JJ then it gives her a petty image.

Its JJ who has been given a false appraisal of PM hopeful, she is capable but she has not worked or planned in her 30 years of politics. India does not need a third front or a Devegowda type PM.

Chandra babu Naidu was wise in aligning with BJP. JJ has confused political scenario paving way to DMK. it may not be a surprise noted corrupts will make a grand entry which will be shameful for TN. ( I pray this does not happen) but still JJ is responsible (like she paved way for Kanimozhi into Rajya sabha)

  9. No one in the national media believes that Modi would become or allowed to become PM. Even in today's Jug Suraiya's column you can see that.

More importantly there are outside forces in work. Read
    http://www.rediff.com/news/column/rajeev-srinivasan-the-time-will-come-when-america-can-dictate-to-india/20140303.htm

On the ground, AAP has been estimated to upset BJP in 50 constituencies. Muslims are siding with AAP. I already wrote on Muslim- effect in Delhi assembly elections.

The last BJP leader to openly join the bandwagon of PM-ambitious is Rajnath! The simultaneous offensive on Muslims from BJP camp at this critical juncture has more damaging potential on BJP's victory in the places going to elections now.
Inspite of all the that if Modi is left with JJ as friend, nothing can stop him to reach PM's gaddi. I see no other reason than some bad-counsel and lack of thought on the part of Modi in his TN forays.

  10. Dear Ms Sheela,

There is no unpredictability in TN.

ADMK has solid 32% vote share even in the worst performing time of 2006 elections when she lost. It was 31.1% in 2001 when she won. In the recent 2011 elections it rose to 38.4 % These figures are individual counts and does not include alliance votes. These figures show that JJ has 32% solid vote share. Please refer my other article quoted in the beginning of this article for vote share comparison with others.

The 7% increase in 2011 elections may perhaps be the floating votes that include people - the upper class and the net savvy voters who rose up to vote for her to dump DMK. Of them the upper class may not come out to vote or vote for AAP if they come out. Only the net savvy are Modi fans. Only these voters are swaying between ADMK and others (NDA). They had not hurt her prospects even in bad times.

At the ground level, only Thuglak assessment is close to reality. The fight is between DMK and ADMK only. NDA is taking a share of anti- ADMK votes which would have otherwise gone to DMK. Added to this is the 5% net savvy votes which are not uniform but marginal in urban centres. Then there is azhagiri factor, if at all there exists one. If it exists, I suspect that Azahgiri factor is going to transfer some votes from DMK to ADMK.

On electricity and water, the disenchantment showing up in votes is localised. The common man knows nobody except JJ could do a better job. Even Modi dared not offer to solve electricity or water problems over night. Because these will take time.

One test case for why these issues do not go against JJ is that Coimbatore - the textile city badly affected by electricity problem - which is expected by pollsters to vote for the BJP CP Radhakrishnan, has shown ADMK leading in Thuglak assessment. People by and large know JJ's sincerity in this regard.

On JJ's pitch for PM, she didnt do directly but gave indication that when it comes to choosing PM probable for lok sabha election as this, she is there. This message has gone down well to her 32% voter base. They say " amma must become PM". They are going to vote with that idea.

The last few days before elections are crucial. JJ left a strong message in her last campaign speech, but BJP found itself with lot of Muslim bashing. It may help in UP but in TN it wont. It would harden the stance of base level voters in TN not to give room for "kaavi katchi".

  11. Dear Ms Harinee,

You wrote // Modi had 3 terms, she has not even completed one//

This is JJ's 3rd term. Her first term was in 1991 when she was a novice. That term brought bad repute for her. But after that she recovered and had become careful in giving clean administration from the 2nd term onwards.

  12. JJ's interview in Times now talking about her "maturity" is a questionable one - especially after her self-boasting comment that "this lady is better than Modi". It proves beyond doubt that she will never shed her arrogance. Infact, regarding the blunder, I would say that the boot is on the other leg. Till JJ was not talking about Modi, people who wanted Modi to come were willing to vote for her - now by her stupid comments, all BJP sympathiser votes will go to BJP and its alliance - which will I am sure split votes and ensure DMK's victory, if they cannot win.

What is the percentage of BJP sympathizers in TN?

    You said,

So you are talking about those who are willing to vote to her because they are for BJP. So these people are anyway anti-JJ voters. This is what I am saying - only anti-JJ vote is going to split between DMK and BJP/ allies. The individual share of JJ is 32% solid which scores high in a 3 to 5 cornered contest. Refer the earlier article quoted in the first line of the article.

  17. Readers please take note:

I am not a Modi baiter. I am not against him becoming the PM. But with continuously changing times, we have to align our decisions on the basis of the exigencies. We have to think and vote for the larger good.

The larger good is not to give any room for DMK in TN and also have a State Govt that has a say in the centre. For that an en bloc voting for JJ is needed. Any govt or even NDA Govt that comes in the centre will have and must have her in it. My grouse is that Modi inadvertently spoiled it. Perhaps the bonhomie would be revived at the right moment. Perhaps sensing that Venkaiya Naidu skirted the Modi- lady talk by acceding - Lady for the state and Modi for the centre.

If people think that a central govt devoid of JJ is good, then forget growth and productivity for TN for next 10 years. BJP may claim itself to be a national party, but it functions as a regional party from state to state. Without a strong leadership in TN who has a better bargaining power, to believe that BJP Govt -whomever may be the PM then - would give whatever TN needs, is like "neerla ezhudhi nilaala padikkanum" - It is like reading from the face of the Moon that reflects (?) the writing done on water!

In the whole India, only in TN, the allies of BJP have been publicizing Modi without any specifics or data. Even BJP did not do it. It was because the allies are at the verge of extinction and need to get a life which they somehow want to by clinging to Modi (wave). Only Padiccha muttal (educated fools) go by platives to the extent of not bothering what effect their vote would have on DMK's resurrection. Thank God, the illiterate people who are better used to survival instincts are in a position to undo the damage.

I don't understand how people expect JJ to solve power crisis in such a short time when the previous govt did absolutely nothing. She is not a magician, the way she solved Neyveli problem was commendable. Yes she is arrogant, women who have to lead tend to be aggressive like that, please look around that's what it takes to get there in a male society.
Yes all her decisions will not be right because there are no perfect leaders. But I think she is very genuine in her efforts like Modi.Locally if BJP doesn't give good leaders and has wrong alliances Modi' achievements do not matter

  19. Dear Madam, Modi simply talked about Gujarat growth and did not compare himself with JJ. To say that BJP supporters are anti-JJ is nothing farther from truth. BJP sympathisers have everything common wit AIADMK simply because JJ was perceived to be pro-hindu as compared to anti-Hindu MK. In fact, couple of weeks back, AIADMK leaders came and canvassed in my apartment (which has 50 flats). When most of us told that we were going to vote for Lotus, they said "Please don't waste your vote, after elections, anyways Amma is going to support BJP". With this request, many of us were convinced on their propaganda (and this was the propaganda that was happening throughout tamil nadu). Now, after this spar, AIADMK won't get BJP sympathisers vote. And you are saying that AIADMK has solid base of 32% vote. TN people are wise enough to differentiate between assembly polls and lok sabha polls. Thats the reason they preferred congress-DMK over MGR in 1980 LS polls - and in the same year, assembly polls - they preferred MGR. Now in this case, with the most anti-BJP channel NDTV projecting 275 seats for NDA, all the floating voters (who are the deciding factor in any elections), will vote for BJP and its alliance. This may not help the BJP alliance to win - but only split votes and help the DMK to win. This is where JJ has blundered. Regarding the journalists quote link which you have mentioned, why should i worry about one journalist comments - when a big journalist like MJ Akbar has joined BJP and is propagating for Modi. Besides no journalist (excepting cho) is enamored of Modi. Now, even Cho had written in his yesterday's editorial requesting people to vote for BJP wherever they are contesting. Also your quote about BJP/RSS cadres talking about Modi's arrogance - there was never a man who has been systematically maligned for no fault of his - in the last 12 years. He does what he thinks is correct - and has rubbed both sides (RSS and the seculars) in the wrong place. But he still is very much in the heart of Gujaratis - who elected him thrice. Whereas neither JJ nor MK won back to back elections. If JJ feels that "this lady" is better than Modi - then she should prove herself by winning back to back elections.

  20. \\If people think that a central govt devoid of JJ is good, then forget growth and productivity for TN for next 10 years.\\.

There are two opinions about this - one is what you have said and the other is - JJ would want to benefit from the disproportionate wealth case using her clout in centre. Remember, in 1998, JJ asked for law ministry and gave it to Mr Thambidurai - and no sooner than he was sworn in - he said "he will take stock of all the cases regarding JJ". At that time, JJ did not ask for water resources ministry to solve cauvery issue. Her only agenda was to 1)escape from the cases 2)to dismiss DMK government. Because of her haste in toppling Vajpayee govt, many people see her party synonymous with instability. And the average voter in Tamil Nadu does not know about her Times Now interview and her "maturity" and hence this opinion is likely to prevail.
I do agree that BJP alliance is on weak ground here in TN, but at the same time, there are lakhs of new young voters who are rooting for Modi and will now have second thoughts for voting AIADMK after her spat with Modi.

  21. // Any govt or even NDA Govt that comes in the centre will have and must have her in it. My grouse is that Modi inadvertently spoiled it.//
It is JJ who spoiled the bonhomie - because firstly she told that BJP & congress should be outrightly rejected - which was even condemned by Cho in his last week's editorial. Modi only responded in the late evening. And Modi's meeting with Rajini or Vijay is none of JJ's business. If she is indeed upset over this, it only shows her petty mindedness.

One can accuse the same tag of arrogance for Modi too – that he is megalomaniac!! He thought no one is on par with him or comparable to him. I think you are reading only pro-Modi material and not what different people talk.

//because JJ was perceived to be pro-hindu as compared to anti-Hindu MK.//

The Hindu- matter is a recent phenomenon in TN politics – The core vote base of JJ is not based on this. Today a tendency has developed to see everything from Hindu – or anti Hindu prism. I know even this article of mine is seen as anti- Hindu because I choose JJ over Modi. A dangerous personality craze is developing in the name of Hinduism!!

//"Please don't waste your vote, after elections, anyways Amma is going to support BJP". With this request, many of us were convinced on their propaganda (and this was the propaganda that was happening throughout tamil nadu).’//

That was earlier. Now things have changed. The first deviation came from TN BJP under the influence of anti ADMK Thamizharuvi Maniyan to have cobbled up an alliance with must-be-discarded parties – which JJ had successfully pushed into marginals or oblivion. It was a great service by JJ to nation and to people to have made the Jathi katchi PMK and selfish Katchi DMDK and Elam Katch MDMK go to oblivion. BJP resurrected them.

But JJ did not raise any hues over that. She and Modi knew very well that when their parties are contesting opposite to each other, there will be a clash of interests and it is for them (the leaders) to carefully maintain the balance. Modi violated that unwritten code by meeting Rajini which has an overture to influence his fans to vote for him. Even if Modi is in JJ’s position, he would fired a salvo – even a harsher salvo than what JJ did – who only took up Kavery issue on that day.

//Now, after this spar, AIADMK won't get BJP sympathisers vote.//

You would not have anyway voted for her. People like you don’t come under the 32% vote share which she had even at the time of her 2nd term.

//TN people are wise enough to differentiate between assembly polls and lok sabha polls.//

You left out UPA 1 period when TN gave 40/40 to DMK – congress. If you have noticed, only when the alliance with a Dravidian major was there, it had worked and also when a PM candidate was surely seen. That is the reason; JJ spread the idea of herself as PM candidate for more than a Year.

//but only split votes and help the DMK to win.//

Knowing that DMK win is probable, is it not the duty of a responsible voter to stop it by avoiding vote split? The illiterate thinks that , but not an educated one!

//there was never a man who has been systematically maligned for no fault of his - in the last 12 years.//

    Same with Jayalalithaa.

//But he still is very much in the heart of Gujaratis - who elected him thrice.//

Antha nandri is not there in TN, Here people ask why she alone, why not give chance to others? Is this a musical chair? Water, electricity, terrorism (veerappan) – she did so much in the last term, but we didn’t allow her to continue. We fell to MK. Before allowing her to finish the good and hard works, we disturb her. People get what they deserve. If she is disturbed now there is no one in the horizon to bring up TN for good.

That was old story, JJ has come a long way after that. And another thing she was implicated by DMK and / but not in corruption cases. Remember that. She was born rich and was popular heroine - actress right from her 16th year. There is nothing surprising in her wealth. Take a look at the jewellery she was wearing in the controversial marriage of Sudhakar. They are nothing compared to what a middle class person wears today. And it was nothing before what Rajini’s daughters were wearing at Saundarya’s marriage. Rajini was not in politics, If only he had been the CM, MK would have ‘exposed’ his riches which are much more than what JJ had.

//And Modi's meeting with Rajini or Vijay is none of JJ's business.//

After Modi’s tweet on his meeting with Rajini, JJ talked – but on issue of Cauvery which she said a year ago when she told she would not tie up with BJP or Congress. Did she do it for herself? Was that not for the state? Do you think by aligning with BJP, Karnataka BJP would allow water to be released in Cauvery? That was a continuing drama for years. That is why she dissociated with them.
She is straight in canvassing and politicking and did not seek star power. Every one knows what it means to rope in Rajini and Vijay. By that Modi gave a message that he is at cross with her. After that, would any leader keep mum?

//If she is indeed upset over this, it only shows her petty mindedness.//

It is not being upset, it is political game they have to play. Modi’s attack on DMK and ADMK on vindictiveness is again a thing that actually made JJ to ask how he can equate DMK with ADMK. when it comes to administration he has no quarms even to work with Rahul Gandhi. He has been insisting that PM & chief ministers should work as team and there should be no big brother tendency. So i had and i will continue to vote for her in assembly polls and that too because we don't have alternatives. But in national politics, when a person like Modi is available, I don't need to vote Femme Fetales like Jaya, Maya, Mamata etc.
//Knowing that DMK win is probable, is it not the duty of a responsible voter to stop it by avoiding vote split? The illiterate thinks that , but not an educated one!//
This is a national elections and I agree with the BJP campaign that the likes of Jaya, Maya, Mamata etc want only 20-50 seats to become PM, but we need 272 to make Modi PM." When the national trends are showing NDA is clearly crossing 272 mark, probably BJP can hope that they don't require troublesome politicians like Jaya, Mamata, Maya etc.
It is JJ's obstinacy in not aligning with BJP was the reason why BJP was pushed into the hands of fringe parties. Just like JJ, every other party only wants to win and this has nothing to do with morality. So if you think that BJP is reviving the fringe parties, the blame should only go to JJ for not trying to stitch an alliance with BJP.

The fact is that people irrespective of religion tends to get angry when their customs are denigrated by politicians, and they found that MGR/JJ are not like that and they rallied behind them. Its nothing to do with religion.
You are saying that JJ was also maligned just like Modi. But JJ was maligned only in TN and that too 99% only by DMK. But Modi has been maligned locally, nationally and internationally. So to compare Modi and JJ in this regard is ridiculous.
//Antha nandri is not there in TN, Here people ask why she alone, why not give chance to others? Is this a musical chair? Water, electricity, terrorism (veerappan) – she did so much in the last term, but we didn’t allow her to continue. We fell to MK.//
If she had done only good things, people would have overwhelmingly voted for her in her previous term. But she took controversial deccisions like H-muthirai in ration shops, dismissing & arresting government staff (who were the deciding factors in not less than 50 seats) and also foisting false cases against her bete noires whether sudhakaran, serina or shankaracharya. On top of these, I feel that 2006 results is a contrived verdict by rigging the EVMs by congress-dmk combine. I feel that JJ would have won if it had not happened. Now, election process is videographed and hence that kind of wrong results wont come.

Also it doesn't matter to me whether Rajini is rich or poor or corrupt or clean or whether karunanidhi would have exposed him. But the fact is that Modi-Rajini meet has 8 lakh likes in just 4 hours and shared around the world. So much of their popularity.

When there were excessive rains poured in Karnataka last year, lot of water was overflowing from dams, but it just went to the sea wastefully, because the successive DMK & ADMK governments did not bother to build check dams. So, thats why modi promised that he will take steps to inter-link rivers and build check-dams.

//Educated people like you have no forethought- what to do then? //
Never in my life had i voted for DMK, but at the same time i feel that for a strong government at the centre, BJP should have pliable partners who don't create ruckus. Parties like MDMK, DMDK, PMK etc will never try to threaten or topple BJP government, because they know that if they do anything like that their survival will be in question, but big parties like ADMK, TMC etc don't think like that because even if they topple, still it won't affect their poll prospects because there is no alternative to them at the regional level.

//It is JJ's obstinacy in not aligning with BJP was the reason why BJP was pushed into the hands of fringe parties.//

No. Initially BJP and ADMK had talked on alliance. A report in Dinamalar had recently produced La.Ganesan’s talk on that. JJ agreed to give maximum 4 seats. But BJP was not satisfied. In the first interview with La. Ganesan by readers in Thuglak, the two women interviewers precisely asked La. Ganesan why they didn’t accept the seats offered by JJ and go along with her while what they got after all the humiliating talks with the present allies was just 8. It shows that anyway that was the maximum they can think for themselves but without a guarantee of a victory in those seats. Instead could they not have aligned with ADMK for less seats and guaranteed their victory? There was no proper answer from Ganesan for that. That is the background. Don’t blame JJ for by parroting the vested news of TN media. Another case of non-thinking nature of educated class in Tamil nadu.

//Just like JJ, every other party only wants to win and this has nothing to do with morality. So if you think that BJP is reviving the fringe parties, the blame should only go to JJ for not trying to stitch an alliance with BJP.//

Whatever be that, JJ had kept above unhealthy tendencies in this election right from alliances and mode of choice of candidates (only educated and English speaking) to election speeches and without giving room for any disgusting practice of appeasement or catering to any section.

//ROFL, do you expect Modi to recommend Rajini to ask his fans to vote for JJ? After all, everyone only wants to win the elections.//
Don’t you remember Rajini exposing in the last assembly elections to whom he had voted and that was noted by his fans who said that they followed suit? Even in that election, where no stones must be left unturned to unseat MK, JJ DIDN’Tseek Rajini’s support. She is THE LEADER of QUALITY. Rajini himself gave support by showing up to whom he voted. Like that let Rajini do it by himself if he wanted to support Modi. Why did Modi go to his house to see him at this time? Is that the level of Wave of Modi – that it cannot be pushed further without star power of Rajini? Whatever ills that were harming TN – they were shunned by her , but revived by Modi which are legitimised by Modi fans, the supposed educated class. If the same is done by JJ, the same people would have pounced on her. Chauvinism and double standards is what Indian males are.

I doubt. In the worst of her times when she was implicated by MK in a volley of cases, 32% stood by her. I am sure people like you were not there in that 32%. Or else you wont be beating around the bush on old stories of ditching Vajpayee.

I referred to Hindu taint in political discourse. The current article is on politics. Here I am saying the need to strengthen JJ over Modi (who is anyway going to get 272 + according to you) and it seems this article and its writer stand the chance of getting branded as anti-Hindu by the Modi fans, the neo Hindus.

// You are saying that JJ was also maligned just like Modi. But JJ was maligned only in TN and that too 99% only by DMK.//

No people like you are also maligning her. No media national or local would speak good of her but only parrot words like “arrogant” . In the Times Now article Arnab asked her this. She said her organisation has more one crore members of all hues. It is not possible to handle them and the organisation if she gives into each and every demand or comment on her. She has to show a level of authority to keep them all together unitedly. No one publicised this explanation be her and only keep tarnishing her.

I used to think why she has to work for these people who have no nandri and no grasp of the hard work she has done. She IS a Sthitha-pragya gyani, according to my assessment of her horoscope of her current times. I know at what level of spiritual maturity she is in, but how she is tarnished by the outside world. Compared to her, Modi has a long way to go – or atleast another tough birth to wade out the Prarabdha karma that he had created now for 45 long years in the case of the woman in his life abandoned by him.

You talk of Hinduism. In Hindu thought, Kaama scores above Dharma and artha. The one who bungles up in kaama comes back to base zero and starts from scratch. After coming to know of his bungling in personal life which he didn’t set right either by divorce or by taking her back in his life, I find him no different from any other male of this male chauvinist and male – centred Indian society. If the same fate happens to your sister or daughter you would know the pain of the woman in his life who had lived in desperation for 45 long years expecting her husband to accept her. Modi as man has disappointed me. In contrast JJ is alive to the sufferings of the womenfolk in our system. I mentioned it in Sengottaiyan case. I personally know of some top officials in TN govt who had faced similar troubles from their husbands. There are unwritten stories behind them in JJ’s moves to safeguard them while dealing toughly with those men.

  32. // H-muthirai in ration shops, dismissing & arresting government staff//

All those for good. H muthitrai shows that she genuinely tried to remove the well-to-do class from taking subsidised Govt benefits.
Why did she dismiss the govt staff? They were not reporting on time and once reported were not in their seats. She wanted to make them fall in line with rules. You know the nature of Govt Staff. Modi too is tough and strong and a terror in implementing rules. In TN JJ was the only leader who tried to reform the Govt staff. But MK chipped in and media danced to the tune of MK. If Modi does the same thing, you will praise him. If JJ does you will scold her. That is the level of brainwashed educated class in TN. No original thinking.

Now in the current tenure, she has succinctly introduced lot of measures to improve the work culture of Govt staff – in govt offices and hospitals. No media would report it and so you don’t know them. And you have less chance to go to a govt office or GH. Whereas, ordinary people have to go to Govt offices and they know the sea-some change in the way they are treated. That is why they are better informed of the ground reality of what it means to have JJ at the helm and MK or BJP allies at the helm.

// thats why modi promised that he will take steps to inter-link rivers and build check-dams.//

You comment in water from karanataka shows how ill informed you are on tough nature of sharing water with Karnataka. Inter linking rivers is already under way in TN. I am sure you didn’t listen to JJ’s speech on the denial of approval for one such project in TN. Linking waters will take decades because it involves states, land acquisition for digging canals to link and compensation. What Modi said, even I can say. They are ridden more problems and involves long, long years. In the immediate context, we have Cauvery tribual award which Karnataka is not honouring. JJ asked why BJP did not assure the implementation of the award. Why Modi did not assure it?

Instead he talked of a dream project that will take decades and have to wade through lots process and scientific work including the ecological damage which is yet to start in India. He can never assure water from Cauvery award , for that means harming Karanataka- BJP. In the past BJP, like Congress did not sacrifice the interests of the party in one state for the interests of the other. Same thing is to continue even if Modi comes to power. That is where JJ gains relevance as one working whole heartedly for TN. Delta farmers realise this and they are supporting her. I repeat it is only the internet –glued people who create a ‘mayai’ of Modi wave in TN – which is subsequently picked up by media.

  33. // Parties like MDMK, DMDK, PMK etc will never try to threaten or topple BJP government, because they know that if they do anything like that their survival will be in question,//

You yourself agree that these parties are selfish and so they will compromise in a situation where state’s interests are superseded. Same as what DMK did with Congress on spate of issues. One prominent example is Cauvery issue with Karanataka where DMK sang to the tune of Congress which wanted to win in Karnataka. In the case of Hogenakkal water project for Dharmapuri, MK went to extent of shelving it for the sake of state elections in Karanataka. He had no qualms in giving the real reason that he does not want to proceed with the project when assembly elections are on in Karanataka. No media – print or social media talked about and that it is why you are not aware of it. The present allies of BJP also will be like DMK in a conflict of interest to TN because it is life issue for them if they go against BJP govt then. They would compromise the state for the party’s life. JJ would not.

    //
Do you mean that whatever approach JJ takes, Modi has to take the same approach?//

What is the approach of JJ we are talking here? It is the high standard in alliances and seeking votes. JJ did a remarkable campaign. Modi did definitely less than her – as far as TN campaign is concerned. I repeat whatever must be shunned in TN in its long chequered history of braving the Chauvinist forces, JJ shunned them, but Modi resorted to them. He will do anything for votes. He will do anything for his party’s interest – Karnataka – Cauvery is a case point.

// Modi never said that JJ & sonia collided on fishermen issue. He simply said that the state and central governments did pretty nothing in the fishermen issue.//
He did say in Kanyakumari meeting.

// Under JJ four prominted hindu leader were killed and finally he took action after killing them ....//
You mean to say she promoted it? It was not due to any lackadaisical approach to law and order. And she has never compromised on policing. As you yourself said action can be taken against a murderer only after he murdered!!! She was the one who brought to book the culprits / Muslim terrorists from Chittor hideout. Only BJP was known for having given a safe passage to terrorists in Kandhar hijack issue.

You see if we start talking more, it would be a can of worms form BJP pocket.

Absolute parroting of anti JJ campaigners.

Vajpayee issue is a long gone matter and she had conceded her immaturity in handling it. But it was with the entry of DMK in Vajpayee govt scientific corruption was imported in Centre by Murasoli Maran. Senior Maran started all that and made all that is good for his sons and their business by his power as Industry minster. None of you would ever raise a whisper about it because joining BJP sanitised Maran! But Marans in UPA are demons. They continued what Senior Maran was doing in BJP Govt.
You are wrong on your facts on JJ not getting support from centre. UPA was for the most time in the centre when JJ was ruling for the 2nd term. Obviously with the connivance of DMK in UPA, the centre did not favour TN. Now also you people want to side-line JJ and allow Vijaykanth like elements in the centre who are going to the same as DMK, because they want to get a foot hold in TN. That is why I am saying any wrong decision against JJ now, is going to put back TN for a decade.

I explained on Tasmac in the article.

// a lady who does not want to be in chennai to rule to state and we do not need her and do not say that work can be done from anywhere and then why she comes for compaigh to meet let her be somewhere and do video conferencing//

Typical DMK talk but you claim you voted for ADMK. You are not a core voter. The same thing, if Modi does his work by video conferencing, you will all praise him. If he take 3 planes to go back home every night from wherever he is in his campaign, you won’t raise a whimper. But if JJ used helicopter to save time and be back to attend to Govt work, you would criticise her. Your reference to Kodanadu – is it outside TN? Or is she taking holiday there? Please don’t claim that you are basically voter of ADMK. The 32% is a convinced voter base.

Future of TN depends on that voter base who can ‘think’ on the ground reality of the need to stop DMK. For people like you, let anything can happen to TN, but Modi must come to power. Choose your destiny. People get what they deserve. May be in your grand son’s time you will get Modi’s promise of liking rivers fulfilled. But power problem will be solved by JJ herself before she finishes this term.

  35. Madam,

Each one of us are entitled to our opinions. But when we go public with our opinions, we should have the maturity to accept brickbats. When you say, I write for myself, not for readers, you sound like a crybaby.

1.) Modi spoiled good relations with J. He is friendless. Modi is Hero worshipped.

Are you alright or are you under Tasmac influence about which you keep writing and justifying! You are a slave minded person and you should not talk about Hero worship.

Modi has lots of supporters. Be it Naidu in his alliance or his opponent Jagan Reddy and KCR also very much willing to come to his side. Raj Thackeray who is not in NDA is campaigning only in Modi's name. Not only Rajini, be it Amitabh or Salman visit Modi and appreciate friendship with him. In politics, even MuKa proudly said, Modi is my friend and he is a hardworker.

Even when Modi attacked J politically, he gracefully said he has excellent personal relationship with J. Did she reciprocate? She started attacking Modi vociferously because she knew she has no chance of becoming pm or even being part of NDA govt. since NDA would get comfortable majority. Not only that, there is a competition among many parties waiting to support Modi. Even Naveen Patnaik, a performing CM, is quite when talking about Modi. J's dreams were shattered when Rajnath and Venkiah coolly said that they don't need admk support. Hence she attacked Modi. So, stop fooling people by telling Kaveri and mullai periyar issues and all. Tell me how many friends J has, you may say Tha.Pandian but that fellow was badly snubbed and he has also started barking. Reality is that, she has lost a good friend in Modi, a world leader.

Now many surveys are giving only 15-20 seats for admk. That will also not materialise. You please stop quoting only senile cho and tughluk. There are reputed magazines and thanthi tv survey.

I am no dmk supporter and I have never voted them since I started voting ten years back. Both the parties are corrupt, BUT, MuKa, any day, is a better administrator and a better evil among these two. He has ensured development for the state. He has given free hands to his ministers and mlas during his regime to work for their constituencies. For example, look at Duraimurugan's Katpadi and see how he has developed his seat over the years. He will not lose even a tough election. People are loyal to him. Look at TRB Rajaa of Mannargudi and see his work. Even the world famous corrupt, Andimuthu Raja has a very good name in Nilgiris and many people love him because he has done some work. Contrarily, how many admk ministers work and how many people even remember their names. Even OPS and Thambidurai are chased out in their own constituencies.

Do you know how many cabinet shuffle has happened in the last 3 years? Is it the sign of a mature administrator?

You are suffering from Dhritarashtra syndrome, else, you will not dare to open mouth about law and order situation in TN.

You say NaMo could become PM with J's support and no one could stop him if he has J's support. When I showed this to some people here, it was like some thigh slapping comedy.
    'சிங்கம் நாய் தரக் கொள்ளுமோ அரசாட்சியை' - [ Kamba Ramayanam - Angatha telling Ravana]

You say NaMo is megalomaniac and arrogant. Come on, Jayashree ji, NaMo has got nerves of steel and he will remain unperturbed and unfazed by gain or loss of power. He is a karma yogi and he will remain undeterred under any circumstance. Unlike J(many flipflops), NaMo is committed to his idelogy and beliefs and he himself has stated many times that he will never allow any attack on his ideology and freedom, even if it means electoral loss. If at all, you find him arrogant, it is like that of fiery National Poet, Subramania Bharathi (

in such case how about Buddha/ Viswamitra and many unknown sages leaving their family for spiritual causes and for the welfare of world.

i had read in a link that he has no adultery symptoms of any gender in his horoscope

ofcourse life of that lady would have been very tough and her current austere lifestyle really stirs anyone. this should also give suraksha to Modi I feel.

  38. I am in business and i hear from all quarters in T N state that AIADMK men started distributing money to the people for votes. It ranges from RS 500 to RS 3000. In south chennai many places in the last two days money was distributed in the nights.Although DMK is also in the race with the news that Raja In nilgris distribute even Rs 5000-8000 per head. But only ruling parti resorting to this buying the vote is really viewed in bad light and it might cost some votes in todays election. As i predicted astrologically many times even before two years in your blog, Modi will be the P M as he will sure to get majority.

i remember v well late sri vidwan v lakshmanan editor and publishers of Balajothidam fortnight issue that came up to 2004 before the demise of Lakshmanan, wrote in 2003 in his book about manmohan singh becoming p m ( No one ever thought of him at that time )along with his horoscope, chidambaram will be a powerful minister for 10 years and sonia will not be P M but behind Manmohan singh to operate the government. He made mention in 2014, a powerful leader would come and will rule for 10 years till 2024 when india will be economically powerful country and a superpower. Ram temple will be built in 2022. i tried to trace this 2003 editions but none has the copy of same. if you are able to find out, please let me know.

Now once modi comes to power ( sure about this) jaya will take the same stand to confront with central government due to her ego and arrogant nature by not meeting him to seek support. The end result is that tamil nadu people will be deprived of development and infrastructural facilities. Power supply could have been solved easily but jaya failed to take with central government strongly in person but to sit quietly by writing letters to P M. She can not be fit to be a P M.

  40. JS Madam

Hats off to you for putting up a very brave show in a convincing manner in support of your thoughts and expressions.

In our eyes, your stature has grown. Not only in astrology, research related to history and historical relevance but even in politics – your analysis after due consideration and thought arising out of a very lengthy process and methodology, you are able to convey your points explicitly clear.

The recent study on Mundas will confirm this observation.

As usual, as seen in other social media, the people who do not see eye to eye with you and particularly on the subject matter “MODI” pounce on you and enter into silly, very lengthy and unconvincing counter arguments. They may have solace only in such arguments not backed by any rhyme or reasoning arising out of research. They want to claim they support Modi.

Please keep up your work - research, study and thought sharing. We will continue to flock to you and your expressions.

Utilizing this opportunity I wish to share with you some observations.

Mr Modi kept his marriage a secret during all the previous elections. Only now he has realised that he has to declare he is married. You have rightly observed that he has wronged the woman, according to Hindu Dharma.

It was also mentioned that he has kept his marriage a secret only because in RSS, bachelors are preferred over married men for posts and positions. Did he lie to them as well in the past? Can we look into his membership application and claims to RSS?

I know, many will pounce on me and me-likes for asking this. Why get into personal details of an individual when he is standing for official position as a Prime Minister.

In my view, to achieve ends which are good, we are to follow equally good means. Having lied in the process about his status of marriage so far, he has pursued wrong paths and naturally there is no guarantee this process won’t be repeated in the future in case he is under any pressure in future.

I know we have no alternatives this time – we have a Corrupt Congress and equally damaged BJP. We have other motley groups who wants to capture power somehow or other. They do not have a holistic vision. But we do have the power of prayer. Let me share my thoughts a bit later.

Coming back to Modi. You have mentioned about Prarabhdha Karma.

Marrying a woman, leaving her in lurch, denying her the life of a wife, denying her the conjugal bliss, preventing her the motherhood, getting her sly remarks from others in the society as a bad and cursed woman, forcing her parents, brothers, sisters and all her relatives to live a miserable life with endless worries till their death will lead the native to undeniable curse and suffering at crucial times leading to further sins.

    contd...

    ReplyDelete

  41. I believe now, may be this curse only led him to 2002 happenings.

He has earned an equally bad reputation out of this. Though many of us may have voted for him and elected him in Gujarat, people still talk of him with fear factor in mind – not to wrong him or comment about him – people fear that they may vindictively affected.

I am not getting into communal topics here. Though the 2002 happenings are coloured communally, I would like to view this as an aberration on peaceful community living.

Kodnani - A person who has been accused of master minding killings in 2002 and accordingly punished recently, was found to be fit for ministerial position by Modi in his governments.

As an intelligent Chief Minister with state intelligence at his command, he should have known about her performance during 2002 and should have denied her opportunity to even to stand for local MLA election.

I can narrate what I read and heard – the stomach of a woman in her advanced pregnancy was pierced open with a spear by the unruly mob – a mob that was not controlled by the law enforcing police forces. And we had a government in power. And we had a powerful, decisive Chief Minister in power.

Nothing happened to prevent this and the pregnant woman and the unborn baby met with a violent fate.

We cannot even now visualise the fear, pain and the desire to protect her unborn child on the face of this hapless woman at the time of this fatal attack.

    What prayachitham will undo this?

In my view, these things – marriage responsibilities not fulfilled, hapless and helpless women and children (even unborn) not protected – will affect not only in this birth but even in ‘all’ future births of this native. The native has become sinned.

We have seen kings and emperors in India who have stood for the health and wealth of their citizen and they have treated their citizen as their children. We have also examples of kings who have executed and killed their own children when they have wronged. In such a country we have now these examples.

    ReplyDelete
  42. contd..

What is the option now for us?

At this juncture, I hold the view, there should not be a Congress Government in power; equally BJP should not win the elections; more over the motley groups should not be allowed to get into the chair.

The alternative is to aspire for a National Government – a truly representative Government.

This is possible. Even among all the named parties, we have good men and women. They should all join hands to form this National Government once the elections are over.

The President of India should encourage and facilitate such a happening.

WE all should pray for this National Government to get formed.

If we allow Congress, they will spend their time to cover up all their corruption cases. If BJP were to come to power, they will indulge in vindictive politics and they too will cover up their part of their sin. If motley crowd were to usurp power, only chaos will result in.

Just to share a few wishful thinking.

We want a Railway Minister who will announce new trains, plan for new lines, and establish factories and other facilities strictly on the basis of need and on economic merit. We do not want yet another Lalu or Mamta or alike to hold Railway Ministry to favour his/her state/constituency and future political plans.

We want a Telecom Minister who will ensure that no favours are doled out for favours received.
We want genuinely interested telecom operators.

We want a Prime Minister who is personally good, professionally sound, with no past bad name or shame to his credit. He should also be assertive. A statesman like character. Not only Indians even foreigners can listen to him with rapt attention and look upto him for his views, opinions and guidance wherever needed.

A Prime Minister who can really add value to the Chair of Prime Minister and who can lead India, who can represent ‘all’ Indians.

Am I day dreaming? This can be made possible by all of us with our prayers.

This can be possible when we get a National Government. And we need to move on and forward

Thanks Madam for this opportunity to share my thoughts at this critical juncture of our nation’s life and journey.

PS: I have written this post extempore without any editing. If you feel it is better to tone down, moderate the language please feel free.

  43. Dear Ms Sheela,

I will take up Mr Modi's marriage issue. Mr Guru Raghavan's observation is true to the core.

    He wrote:

//Marrying a woman, leaving her in lurch, denying her the life of a wife, denying her the conjugal bliss, preventing her the motherhood, getting her sly remarks from others in the society as a bad and cursed woman, forcing her parents, brothers, sisters and all her relatives to live a miserable life with endless worries till their death will lead the native to undeniable curse and suffering at crucial times leading to further sins.//

The real issue in Modi's case is not that it is a child marriage. Infact it is not right to call it as a child marriage. At 17 years when they married, both of them were teenagers with high hormone activity. The right way to say it is that they married at a legally not-approved age. It was not a child marriage. After that, for 3 years they had lived as couple, but at most times his wife had been sent to her parental home.

Initially when I heard that Modi had declared his marital status, I thought that it was as I expected him to be - a married person. As per his lagna in Libra, he must have been married but some complications must have been there. For Libra lagna, 7th lord Mars is in lagna sandhi (0 degrees) and goes into debility in Navamsa. But others use Scorpio as his lagna as per which there is denial of marriage. As per that lagna, the 7th house receives the aspect of a node, Mars and Saturn. Venus, the female factor in man’s horoscope is afflicted by Saturn which aspects 7th house, 7th lord and Venus. Venus, which is both the kalatra karak and the 7th lord in rasi is associated with the nodes in navamsa. All these are signs of denial of marriage. So it confirms that Modi’s lagna is Libra and not Scorpio.

Initially I thought that they were a spiritually lofty couple - like Ramakrishna Paramahamsa and Sharada Devi of going beyond marital bliss with Modi leaving for the service of the nation and his wife giving up her husband for the nation. But when further news ticked in, it gave the real picture inside. Jashodaben’s brother told the press that she was happy that God had answered her prayer. What was the prayer? It was that she wanted Modi to publicly acknowledge her as his wife!! How shocking and pathetic!

Moreover she had been visiting astrologers often for all these 45 years asking them when her husband would come back to her. This is absolutely shocking and a déjà vu of the Tamil song - “chittuk kuruvi, chittuk kuruvi sEdhi theriyumaa? Enna vittup pirinji pOna kaNavan veedu thirumbala” . This lady had been waiting for him for 45 long years, in his memory and wishing and praying for his return, and when it could not happen, atleast prayed that he could acknowledge her as his wife!! Are we reading some film script? Isn’t this the ill- fate of many women in our country – which we thought were events of the past centuries?

As Mr Guru Raghavan said, she had undergone the stigma of an abandoned wife in an insensitive male dominative society. There can be no excuse for this from Modi’s side. I don’t want to write anything more on what it tells on Modi but suffice it to say that in a developed democracy like USA, a person seeking the highest office must not carry a background like this in personal life. In our country, I have not yet come across a single male, after hearing this background capable of seeing through Jashodaben’s life.

    (continued)

    ReplyDelete
  44. There are times when the man takes leave of the woman. Yajnavalkya did, when he wanted to relinquish family life and go to forest. He made sure that his wife Maitreyi accepted it and did not feel for his departure. There are great spiritual gurus who left family fold. But in all such occasions they had to get acceptance from the relevant family person tied to their life. I don’t want to mention the names of who got concurrence and who didn’t get.

In the case of people who leave the wives, whatever may be the pretext in a state that the wife does not and could not stomach the separation, the person will be born in a Yoga called Dushkruthi yoga – the results of which I am not saying here as readers (Modi fans) may not be in a state of mind to accept them. There is yet another yoga of malefic nature that one will be born if he deserts the wife and family being unable to run the family.

The results of abandoning the wife come in the next birth and not in this birth as Mr Guru Raghavan thinks, linking it with Godhra riots. The reason is that it is not yet formed as a Prarabdha karma and the native is given time to rectify the mistake in the same birth itself. The best way to rectify is to bring her back and live as a couple and give her the solace that had aped for all these years. It may look funny what I say here. But this is as per how Dharma operates.

Now tell me Ms Sheela, how can I any longer keep Mr Modi in high esteem when he had failed in the most crucial aspect of how a man should be? I removed the status message on stability for India 272+ (apparently to mean Modi) from my twitter profile after coming to know of the background. Certainly Jayalalithaa scores my respect as one who is sensitive to women’s problems. Women are held high in Hindu Dharma. Our men do lip-service to it. That’s all.

  45. Many thanks Mdm JS.

I have a view that in Kaliyug one may have to face consequences then and there in addition to carrying over to future births.

    Regards

  46. If JJ had really given excellent administration in these 3 years, then why are her party men distributing money left, right & centre, just like DMK. Infact, both DMK & ADMK are distributing money more or less in the same range, although wherever DMK is strong (Thiruvannamalai, nagapattinam etc), they are distributing more than ADMK and wherever ADMK is strong (Tiruppur, pollachi, karur) etc, they are distributing more than DMK. I have been getting these information from my relatives and friends who are staying in those places. Indeed, this fact alone proves that both the dravidian parties use only money power to win elections and their claims and counter claims of development are simply bunkum.
As to your question on why should DMK be revived, this is my answer.
This is only parliamentary elections. Even if by voting for NDA, DMK gets 35 seats, still JJ will be the chief minister and she will continue to rule the state. When assembly elections come, people will automatically throw DMK into dustbin.

    ReplyDelete
  47. //No. Initially BJP and ADMK had talked on alliance. A report in Dinamalar had recently produced La.Ganesan’s talk on that. JJ agreed to give maximum 4 seats. But BJP was not satisfied. //
When last time BJP allied with JJ, they were given 6 seats. So they should be given atleast 5 seats. Also H Raja in his facebook has claimed that JJ was willing to give only 3 seats. Considering that she offered only 2 seats to communists, I tend to agree with Raja.
//You comment in water from karanataka shows how ill informed you are on tough nature of sharing water with Karnataka. //
Then how come Modi built lot of checkdams and interlinked small rivers to maximise water usage in Gujarat when there is a hostile central government? Since 1991, DMK & ADMK had been ruling the state. Did they even make a small move in that direction? Simply blaming central governments, opposition parties have been the hall mark of both the dravidian parties. People no long take that view. Besides, if a third front govt comes to power with JJ's participation, or still best case, if she becomes PM on behalf of 3rd front, still it cannot form a govt without outside support of congress or BJP, both the parties will have MPs from karnataka. Do you think that she can order karnataka govt to release water to TN and will they oblige? The only thing that will happen is - her govt will either fall or she will be replaced by some other PM of any other regional party. I agree that cauvery is a critical issue for TN. But why should entire nation suffer even when they have nothing to do with cauvery? Modi or no Modi, BJP or no BJP, JJ or no JJ, congress or no congress at the centre, cauvery issue will not have any different outcome than what is happening now. We have tried with weak PM like MMS and a slightly weaker PM like vajpayee. Why can't we entrust a chance this time to Modi and see if he can do it - considering that any other choice will not make any difference in the outcome of cauvery issue?

  48. //When the national trends are showing crossing 272, why do you want add to it by giving life to DMK here?//
As I had already told DMK will be only deceiving itself if they think that their victory (if at all it happens) will help in 2016. People are smart enough to differentiate between assembly and LS polls. They know that even if dmk wins 35+ seats, still JJ will be the CM. Also, even with the 35 seats strength (if it happens), they still won't be part of NDA government and they won't have any say in the central govt. Besides, I feel that Modi is not petty minded to listen to DMK to give a short shrift to TN considering that he himself said that he has good personal equations with JJ. So, TN will definitely develop whether DMK gets more seats, or ADMK gets more seats.
//Even in that election, where no stones must be left unturned to unseat MK, JJ DIDN’Tseek Rajini’s support. She is THE LEADER of QUALITY.//
By this logic, even MK and stalin are THE LEADERS OF QUALITY, since neither of them met Rajini. Only DMK rebel Alagiri met Rajini. Obviously he would not have met him on DMK's behalf.
//Why did Modi go to his house to see him at this time? Is that the level of Wave of Modi – that it cannot be pushed further without star power of Rajini? Whatever ills that were harming TN – they were shunned by her , but revived by Modi which are legitimised by Modi fans, the supposed educated class. If the same is done by JJ, the same people would have pounced on her. Chauvinism and double standards is what Indian males are. //
It is because unlike JJ, Modi does not believe that he alone can bring BJP to power. He is still showing respect to Advani & Joshi although they are working in cross purposes to bring down BJP tally.
Modi's supporters don't care about who meets who as they feel that this time it will be definitely modi irrespective of the rival parties move. Using male chauvinist card by women sounds similar to non BJP parties using "secular" card when every other argument against BJP dries up. I have nothing more to say on this.

  49. //No people like you are also maligning her. No media national or local would speak good of her but only parrot words like “arrogant” //

By the same logic were you not maligning Modi by calling him Megalomaniac?

// In the Times Now article Arnab asked her this. She said her organisation has more one crore members of all hues. It is not possible to handle them and the organisation if she gives into each and every demand or comment on her. She has to show a level of authority to keep them all together unitedly. No one publicised this explanation be her and only keep tarnishing her.//

I am not generalising that in all matters JJ is worst or arrogant. If i feel that way, I would never have said that I will vote for her in 2016. I am only saying that she and her party are not fit for LS polls. Wherever I feel what she did is correct, I definitely support her - like restoring tamil new year day or shifting the assembly (I strongly support this - because the new assembly built by MK is a security threat and it is situated in such a way that any terrorist can attack the building). I support her even in disbanding sama cheer kalvi - because the quality is very poor. At the same time, I am not able to restrain myself from criticizing her when she tries to shift library or when she tries to stop flyover projects that will ease congestion (like Porur Junction Flyover or Maduravoyal-Harbour flyover, the latter has to be resumed under madras HC order - which criticized her govt in the harshest term). I also support her in her initiatives to set right the power issues - but at the same time, i feel sad at her stupidity when she is inconsistent in her statements regarding that - First she blamed central govt, then previous dmk govt, now she is blaming EB officers. I really don't have any issue in her contesting alone in LS elections, but what irritates me is - when TN's problems are not yet solved, she is being projected as PM, simply because there are no other leader in her party of her caliber who can become CM if at all she becomes PM - hence if she becomes PM, TN will be ruled by a most inefficient CM of her party. So, when her partymen talks like "Future PM" etc, she should have stopped them and clarified that she is not in the PM race. In that case, she would have got more support. And if we have seen how third front PMs ruled our country and how long they survived. So, JJ for PM has irritated (if not angered) many people in TN.

  50. //You yourself agree that these parties are selfish and so they will compromise in a situation where state’s interests are superseded. JJ would not.//
I feel that DMDK, PMK etc are not so selfish like MK. In fact, it is only because of PMK ministers like AK Moorthy and Velu that the railway projects in TN were speeded up and the much dreamed salem division came to existence despite strong opposition from Kerala lobby. Regarding cauvery issue, I still believe that Modi will find an amicable solution without affecting the interests of both the states - a PM should be for both states and not only for one state. Even assuming that ADMK gets a lion's share of seats in TN, and if she tries to use her seats which she got to get something for TN, the central govt (whoever it is) will only try to circumvent the issue, by taking support from other regional parties and ensure that JJ's voice does not matter. So, JJ's strong words will never be of any use.

  51. //All those for good.
No original thinking.//

H-Muthirai well intentioned - my foot - even a peon gets more than 6000 in a private office - to limit the beneficiaries to less than 6000 is atrocious.
Regarding the govt staff dismissal issue, even in gujarat, there were strikes by amul staff in 2005 or something, but Modi did not dismiss them en-masse. In Gujarat, Modi had not antagonized any section of society or votebank, which is the reason why he was getting re-elected again & again. Coming to TN, people like me who do not have anything to do with govt staff, may not vote for or against JJ by this issue, but there are quite a number of govt staff which is one of the biggest vote bank and JJ lost it by her stupidity. She learnt her lessons from her last defeat - which is good, but from govt staff point of view, whether they are right or not, whether they are fit to be dismissed or not, the fact is that they DO HAVE VOTE and it is their right to exercise it. If JJ wants to win, she should do things strategically, by getting govt staff to work and also not antagonizing them.
Again you have dragged Modi's personal life and her estranged wife Jashodaben. Is it any different from the likes of MK talking about personal life of JJ, when she was in silver screen?
All local Gujarati news papers carried this jashodaben issue as early as 2011 (GujaratJagruthi, Gujarat sandesh etc). still it did not affect the Gujarat results in 2012, just like JJ's personal life was not affecting TN assembly results since 1991.

  52. Me Sheela wrote a comment which she asked me not to publish. So withholding it. However I think I can post a line of it here and give a reply.

    She wrote
//I find many passionate comments hurting you which also I am unhappy. I am sorry if I am also party to it.//

Nothing of the sort of hurting me Ms Sheela. And you have not hurted me. I know what I am and therefore not bothered when people call me names. What we are seeing is how people react out of the hero worship of Modi.

I have seen similar reactions with some AAP fans (not in this blog but in my personal interactions) who could not accept the faults of Kejriwal. The reason lies in why they love Kejriwal or Modi.

Basically they have their belief in a system of values which they transferred on an individual - Kejriwal or Modi. They started seeing him as the epitome of the values that they are passionate about. In Kejriwal's case it was sincere fight against corruption. In Modi's case it is capability to give good governance or a combination of ideas such as Hindu resurgence and many other ideas. When the epitomes of their expectations are faulted, they can not accept because if they accept, it is like admitting their folly in having made them their heroes or questioning the very ideas or dreams and beliefs they hold. So it is difficult to accept that their epitomes are wrong or can be wrong.

But in due course when they start realizing that their epitomes are not really worthy of it, a disillusionment sets in. This had set in with AAP / Kejriwal fans in Bangalore. That is one reason why the voter turn out was low there. If only Kejriwal's popularity had kept up the momentum, many Bangalurians would have gone out to vote for him. Bangalore was indeed on top of working for AAP initially.

The same logic can be seen working in TN also. If at all there was a Modi wave in TN, certainly it must have been present in the cities and in places where BJP put up its candidates. But the main city, South chennai did not go out to vote for La.Ganesan. His constituency has recorded the least voting. Why the educated class who are expected to ape for Modi did not go to the booth? Let no one blame it on the few IT companies for not declaring holiday yesterday. If they cite this as the reason, then it is admitting that only IT or net savvy people are aping for Modi.

The voter percentage should have been higher or even matching State average in Coimbatore and Kanyakumari where BJP has put up its leading people. Why the percentage has dipped in those places? Does it mean Modi wave did not exist even in the places where BJP had put its own candidates? Or is it to do with disillusionment or divided loyalties between JJ and Modi that made people skip voting?

  53. And this is actually an issue where these heroes run the high risk of a bubble bursting. It is because of that BJP (particularly Advani) and RSS did not want to give an impression of putting all the eggs in the same basket. But Modi fans rudely reject them.

The complete absence of any BJP leader of name including the Prez Rajnath in the filing of candidature by the precious PM candidate Modi in Varanasi has an ominous pointer to the thinking in BJP.

    (1) It is Modi's battle and not BJP's battle. Modi had wanted it that way. So let it be so.

(2)The last phase after this date of filing has 77 seats at stake to make Modi touch the magic number, assuming they had already made nearly 200 so far. The BJP did not want Modi to get it. If Modi does not make the 77 - the blame is on him and it will be easy to ease him out of PM-race.

In that scenario, if JJ continues to be his friend, this can not happen. Modi will make up for the deficit from JJ. That is why I suspect that it was a well thought plan to mislead Modi to cross swords with JJ. My suspicion is on a leader who did it at the ground level in TN. Modi was too busy to apply his mind on all this and was misled. That he is not following such happenings is well made out from his rather late tweet on shutting anti-muslim comments from the Parivar.

  54. I am from coimbatore, the kongu belt, which always have voted for AIADMK whether she is in power or not, but this time, after the poll, whoever i asked, they said they voted for BJP. So in Coimbatore BJP is going to come to power and in pollachi, though the KNMK leader is contesting in the BJP alliance, he is contesting on BJP symbol and this time the youth who got laptops, etc and the first time voters who very well know it is parliament elections did not vote for AIADMK and they voted for BJP.

One comment about the women turning in large numbers for JJ, please do not believe it. The ground reality what happened was the local AIADMK functionaries gave/promised 200 rupees plus food and water packets and they hired all private transport operators and they routed their buses to the directions of JJ meeting. There were some grouse that only 100 rs is paid and not the promised 200rs.

The small-scale industry people are totally unhappy with the AIADMK govt that power-cut issue is not solved in kongu region. In the rural areas like kangayam, Dharapuram, karur, vellakovil, which used to be AIADMK bastion, the water scarcity problem has not been solved and more people voted against AIADMK. So in my opinion there is a dip in vote for AIADMK as there are more local unsolved issues and the educated youth favoring Modi over JJ.

So, in my opinion she would garner 15 to 20 seats only. By promoting secular image, she opted for not aligning with BJP which is going to cost heavily on her. Here everyone are telling if she gave just 5 seats to BJP then 35 plus 5 she would have sweeped the elections. See now the muslim have noted for her as I heard the ukkadam, podanur area in cbe which has large muslim population, they preferred DMK. so her aim of getting muslim votes did not work well.

Regarding the IT companies not declaring holiday, I have an observation to make here. I feel that the MNC companies like Accenture, Cognizant, IBM etc are operating internationally and they judiciously follow local laws in the countries they operate in letter and spirit - but the Indian IT companies like wipro, infosys, tcs, hcl etc flout these rules. Basically our indian mindset should change. we should respect laws.

  56. Madam JS

Reference your comments on hurts and unhappiness. Your ideation linking it with hero worship and disillusionment is very apt.

No political party in this country is above board. Every party has track records to highlight or cover up.

However the blame game indulged in by each party confuses the voters. The voters may not be aware, these political parties are inter-connected at leadership levels. The leaders of different political parties at each state level have relationships with each other through marriage or other business connections. They would like to protect their interests somehow – come what may – for them heads they win tails others lose. They have succeeded in ensuring the relationship matrix they have built over a period of time will ensure they are not affected even if they lose elections or if they have done something seriously wrong.

However in this scenario – both Modi and JJ – appear to be different. May be they have not built up this matrix. I know some people may pounce on me – linking JJ with SK.

Overlooking our personal preferences for this party or that, we are aware that no one party will be sincerely interested in alleviating all the problems to take the country forward. This observation should not be construed to reflect that I do not have faith in democracy. I have utmost faith and belief in our systems and institutions.

I lack faith in the leaders – whether it is Modi or JJ – their track record – whether at the official or personal level – they have let down themselves by their behaviour and actions in the eyes of others.

Once again there may be objections – the number of such people who object and who do not approve of their actions may be limited – majority of the people are with these leaders, etc. etc.

Here I would like to vouch safe for the thoughtfulness, bold and courageous decisions delivered by the unread and unlettered voters in the ballot box. They know pretty well – what they want and what they do not want.

This has been proved many times in the past.

    Contd..

  57. Parties and leaders who were expected to win thumbs down were defeated. Parties which were expected to be defeated won the elections with good majority of seats. Let us just retrace the past a little bit – no one expected our mighty Kamaraj would be defeated in the elections and that too by an inexperienced student leader.

This being so, all these discussions during elections only reflect the passions and preferences of the participants.

After the elections, we all have to get back to our ordinary lives. This election will prove to be yet another costlier entertainment for us – the citizens. For the leaders and political parties, these elections are their business and livelihood.

This being so, as mentioned in my earlier observations, your analysis and findings match very well with the available data. The methodology respects the ground rules. The framework provides finer adjustments. Please do keep working on all subjects and share your thoughts. They do provide insights and guidance.

Coming back Elections 2014. My hunch and fear. Modi may not fare well in these elections. The Saturn is going to spoil the party for him. BJP and RSS will regret their decision. They could have done very well without announcing Modi’s candidature. Many of their prominent leaders will lose their seats.

Who knows? Congress may spring yet another surprise and survive this time too and it may be in the reckoning when the moment arrives.

With regard to JJ, I will go with your observations. She will bag and remain top contender. Other than Congress and BJP, her party ADMK will be the largest party in India.

I know I am not playing music to many ears. I will end this lengthy note with an observation.

“The markets will not behave the way in which the leaders expect. If it is so, the leaders’ job will be made easy. Then, there will be natural urge for all of us to become leaders.”

Many thanks again for this opportunity to interact.

  58. Dear Jayasree madam,

Jayalalitha is not taking care of temples. they are continuing to get royally looted. Last new year she forcefully took over Nanganallur Anchaneya temple under endowment board.

We also need to appreciate Modi's thinking prowess. He is not a man who trusts any local leader. He does his ground work well. Meeting with Rajini and Vijay is to get the floating votes. this time Amma is not sweeping TN and only knowing that BJP alliance has some chance if they make use of the floating benefit Modi set up the meeting with Rajini.

let us look at the whole issue from a different angle. If Jayalalitha is well wisher of TN people, why does she all against Modi in full swing. By doing so she is only distancing herself and spoiling her relationship from a potential future PM. Is this going to do any good for TN. Look at the dances she made, joined third front, broke it, joined Mamata and the kind of political stunts she made - do you believe this is all for the welfare of TN people. I seriously doubt. I have privilege to certain information about how madam functions. TN is in somewhat good shape because of the exceptional work done by the administrators during 1996 to 2001 DMK regime. 2001 to 2014 there has been absolutely no development work in TN. Jaya has been ruling TN twice in this period. She is surrounded by babus who advice her on social schemes like amma canteen, pasumai tayagam, useless cow goat schemes etc. There is no money left for Develoment. this time she said she will clean chennai of all dirt and introduce a comprehensive waste management - the announcement and plan has only gone waste.
Beyond all this it was Modi who saved Jaya's life - she should remember that

this is not a good argument. BJP is running a perfectly managed brand creation exercise. They are selling modi the product and they are doing it very well. Look at congress campaign it is devastated because they are not around one product it was Rahul, then sonia now priyanka... it is shifting and confusing. Campaigns are run based on brand strategies.
The modi Rally inYy should rajanath be carried there. what matters in UP is not Rajnath, it is modi. the modi figure should dominate and a larger than life image needs to be created for them to cover all the floating votes.

You may feel modi is arrogant - please check with the Babus of gujarat (many of them are tamilians) they say Modi does not even scold them lightly. Modi has many faces and shows the right face to the right group

Modi is arrogant only to his enemies, he never forgets nor he forgives

  61. Mr Krishnan criticized JJ on the delay in the works at Porur junction fly-over and Maduravoyal express highway. JJ didn't shelve them but stopped them for making corrections which were reported at that time and explained by her in her election campaign too.

In today's papers, the reasons for Porur work delay has appeared. Even then selective news reporting to cast aspersions on JJ can be seen. The actual reason was that the 1.5 metre wide and 600 metre long water pipe line had to be removed to make way for the construction of the flyover. This is a job which involves depriving scores of people without water even for months. There is no tech know-how to replace it and no agency has come forward to do. In such a situation, the only course of action is to re-design the proposed flyover at the place where this line is running. In a country like USA, the concerned parties would work together to sort it out. In our country, the media, politicians, self styled protectors and gullible public would rush to tarnish if the person heading the Govt is JJ, would heap praises if the person at the helm is Modi would turn the head the other way, if the person is Karunanidhi by whom most of those involved in the 'fight' would have their palms creased and the work would be at a standstill with no one questioning it.

Read The Hindu news on its selective reporting here:- http://www.thehindu.com/news/cities/chennai/work-on-flyover-in-porur-put-on-hold/article3574003.ece

Read TOI news in today's paper here:

    http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/chennai/Water-pipe-holds-up-Porur-flyover/articleshow/34213918.cms

    where the causes are explained,

//A 600m long and 1.5m wide pipe is the reason for the construction being halted. Metrowater had refused to move it for construction. "We don't have the expertise to shift such pipes. We called for tenders eight times but no one responded," said the engineer.

Shifting pipes is complicated as water supply has to be cut off. "So we are changing the design of the foundation. The pier will be on either side of the pipe. This will increase the quantity of the concrete to be used," the official said. //

But people wont buy this reason and The Hindu and such other papers would be silent on reporting the real cause.

  62. On Maduravayal, the same thing happened. As usual DMK govt gives nod for a project where they make money. For them any related environmental issue is not an issue at all as in Setu samudram project. Maduravayal project will have 32 pillars erected across the river Coovum which drains rain waters. JJ opposed the erection of pillars across the river but proposed them to be erected on the banks. Her assertion that no concrete structure must be across the river is sound in logic. It was she who had to remove structures on lake and river beds that caused floods in 2005 inspite of all bad propaganda against her. The Madras HC admonished her - but she took it to SC where the SC had accepted the concern and logic in her argument and asked for a report on flooding. This ruling cam last month - can be read here:

    http://www.thehindu.com/news/cities/chennai/expressway-project-sc-seeks-expert-opinion/article5761677.ece

The impediment to the proposed changes suggested by JJ govt is from vested interests in politics and media. Our literates and educated people lacking in thinking would buy these.

Such kind of opposition is mainly to tarnish JJ and uproot her. The Modi fans of TN had only voted for such elements or facilitated DMK to gain this time. An Anbumani or Vijaykanth would not allow her to function if they win and BJP forms a govt with them in ministry. BJP would sing to their tunes. None of them are for the welfare of TN - not even BJP, as their agenda is to further their political future in TN. Modi fans failed to realise the simple dictum - a bird in hand is better than two in the bush. By their votes to NDA in TN, no great change would happen to BJP's kit nationally. No opinion poll gave more than 6 or 7 for NDA from TN. But by their votes tremendous damage had been done to TN welfare besides energizing to-be shunned elements.

  63. Mr Nikesh justified promoting Brand Modi. Any marketing of a brand would not give the correct information to the public. For instance today's Dinamalar gave details of 'personal life' - the daily routine of Modi - particularly in these election times. The aim is to create an aura of greatness around him.

    http://www.dinamalar.com/news_detail.asp?id=962543

But the fact is that the gullible readers are not given the more crucial information of home-based-ness of Modi in taking 3 planes / choppers everyday to be at his home for the night. Did Vijayakanth, Stalin and others who accused JJ of taking choppers to reach the campaign venue (to save time and be back at work) ever know this or were deliberately silent on this?

JJ, if she had wanted, could have pointed this out, but she didn't. Whatever she spoke on BJP or Modi was pointedly issued based - particularly the first barb on Cauvery issue was told by her a year ago when she announced not aligning with either Congress or BJP.

The link on Modi taking 2 planes every day to reach home:-

'Fleet of 3 aircraft ensures Modi is home every night after day's campaigning'

    by

    Piyush Mishra & Himanshu Kaushik,TNN | Apr 22, 2014, 06.34 AM IST

AHMEDABAD: Ever since he kick-started his campaign, Narendra Modi has been criss-crossing the country. But, BJP's PM candidate has rarely felt homesick, thanks to a fleet of three aircraft — one jet and two choppers — which bring him home every night.

Modi has addressed over 150 rallies across the country, clocking 2.4 lakh km, or an average of about 1,100km a day. He has logged in the most flying hours, followed by Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi, industry experts said.

Almost every day, Modi takes off from Ahmedabad airport in an EMB-135BJ, an Embraer aircraft, for his rallies. The jet is owned by Karnavati Aviation, a group company of the Adani Group. "We record two movements of Modi's aircraft daily. No matter where he goes to address rallies, he always comes back home," said an air traffic control official.

Recently, Modi's aircraft was denied permission to fly by DGCA in Delhi for over two hours, following which he lashed out at the central government for stalling his movement. Ever since, Modi has increased the use of choppers to cover smaller distances. "Mostly, politicians use chopper to reach places where bigger aircraft can't reach," said an ATC official.

Over the past few days, Modi flew in an Augusta AW-139 chopper, owned by the DLF Group, for his rallies in north India, especially in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.

According to ATC officials, Modi has also flown in a Bell 412 chopper owned by a private charter service. According to experts, the cost of flying in a single-engine chopper is around Rs 70,000 to Rs 75000 per hour while in the case of a twin-engine chopper, the cost goes up to Rs 1 to 1.2 lakh per hour. For jets, the flying cost per hour comes to Rs 3 lakh.

Around 130 air charter service operators across the country are profiting from the extensive use of helicopters and business jets by parties and politicians. Industry sources said they're spending Rs 350-400 crore on chartered planes for campaigns.

The secretary of Business Aircraft Operator's Association RK Bali said the sector was witnessing negative growth of 2 per cent in the past two years but there had been a spurt in business after campaigning started. "This is the only boom time in the air charter services industry," he said.

Capt GR Gopinath, pioneer of low-cost aviation in India, said elections were a good time for the air charter industry. "It is more visible because of the glamour, sound and fury that surround a chopper or a business jet," he said.

  64. Having said all this, I repeat that I am not a Modi baiter. I am for a strong Govt at the centre. But the kind of blind hero worshiping of Modi at the cost of TN's stability and peace is something that people of TN cannot afford to do.

TN is perhaps the first state for very very long in hero worshiping and getting intoxicated with political marketing. At a time when we were seen moving on, the trend seems to have got reversed. By the kind of marketing of Modi that is happening now, Modi is projected as a magician with a magic wand to provide solutions to all our problems - which is not going to be.

Modi has failed as a man. When everything of his personal life is marketed, that side of personal life of his abandoned wife who is going around Char dham now like any other abandoned widow of Varanasi - is kept under wraps. This is perfectly justified in marketing ethics:)

Looking at any speech on women by Modi, I can not pull back my facial muscles from making a wry smile.

    this link on marketing www.mediacrooks.com/2014/04political-marketing-part-1.html.

i am not for blind hero worship and marketing will not work for anyone without substance. main evil to be uprooted is Congress and its subsidiaries DMK/Samajwadi/BSP/AAP etc..

Natural alternative has become only MODI currently and not BJP. BJP without MODI could not have made this impact. Modi has put his hardwork which is absolutely impossible unless there is some discipline followed in life. Expectation levels are very high and he has staked himself with no choice but to perform. 66. Dear Ms Sheela,

Even you have felt that the foremost issue is to uproot the evil parties. By shunning JJ in this elections, this can not be done as it would strengthen DMK and other to-be discarded parties. My line of thinking is that though TN BJP may be colluding with them - to the extent that La. Ganesan even advised Modi not to criticize DMK (http://www.dinamalar.com/news_detail.asp?id=811606),
Modi must not have fallen into the trap by vested interests. Every other argument in this article is secondary to this.

One of the TN BJP leaders who contested this election is a business accomplice of a foremost leader of DMK's first family. These leaders will spew venom on JJ. And they are doing that. Modi fell into the trap of these vested interest- leaders.

The gullible public believes what these leaders say and do not read anything else to crosscheck. There is double speak in everything - applying different yardsticks for JJ and Modi. The plane matter comes in that context.

    ReplyDelete
  67. There is no doubt that Mr Ganesan is a DMK mole in BJP. MK is too cunning that he has placed moles in all big parties in TN. AIADMK - Sasikala and her "estranged" hubby Natarajan, BJP - L.Ganesan, PMK - Kaduvetti Guru, Congress - Previously Moopanaar, currently, Thangablau/Chidambaram, DMDK - LK Sudheesh. These people are DMK Moles in other parties. Besides that he has demolished MDMK (vaiko) completely by pulling all the top leaders of the party, although some of them have joined AIADMK. Although they may get quite a number of seats due to vote split in this election, they will be totally routed in the next election due to the family politics they are playing and MK's family members will ensure that DMK is destroyed before 2016.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Even if BJP had aligned with AIADMK, still DMK would have got more seats. One of my relatives who was travelling from bangalore to chennai last week by Brindavan Express overheard people talking about voting in Bangalore on April 17 to congress and coming back to chennai on April 24 to vote for DMK. I believe this election is rigged heavily at the national level in almost all states which are not ruled by BJP or its allies. In TN, many of the voters who would have potentially voted for AIADMK, BJP, PMK etc have been systematically deleted, just like Mumbai. Pune, Bangalore - where potential BJP, Shiv Sena, MNS, AAP candidate supporting voters were deleted. From what I have heard is, EC definitely have the past election record on who voted for who from the EVMs used in the past elections and would have shared to their ruling party masters. On top of it, the IB had taken a survey on muslims living in these places and found that although Muslims hate modi, still they won't be voting for congress, but will be voting for AAP. Hence their votes were also considerably deleted and replaced by illegal bangaladeshi names which were cunningly added by corrupt officials. These bangaladeshi immigrants were given fake aadhaar card through UIDAI project headed by Nilekani. My guess is that there will be a third front govt propped up by congress and from TN, most likely DMK will be a part of it - because congress high command wants AIADMK to be defeated as JJ won't be "pliable" to their plans. God save our country!!

Everything is fair in Elections and War. PM's brother joining BJP is the latest. Before that Vajpayee's niece joined Congress. Every one has talked about Muslim voters' polarisation during this election. Now I hear the brahmin voters are being polarised in Lucknow. Rajnath Singh has met ND Tiwari and sought his blessings. I think this country is getting to divided on the basis of all possible combinations for the sake of few votes here and there. For all the candidates winning the elections at all costs is the sole and only aim. There is nothing in this. But polarising the society will surely affect the country in the long run. The enemies of India may be waiting for this kind of opportunity so that they can fish in. Very unfortunate.

  70. After going through all for and against arguments above in respect of JJ and Modi, I am of the firm conviction that JJ is more selfish, arrogant, self centered, autocrat and morally corrupt than Modi. She should be placed where she deserves to be and not in New Delhi as PM or with powers to arm twist Central Government.

  71. It is good to see all the elite, educated and well placed voters prefer Modi and his group. This is a good development. Normally these groups are totally cut off from the common man, illiterate and poor women. Hence these people will prefer candidates from non BJP parties. Also the elite, educated and well placed voters normally do not go en-masse to vote. They are good at talking in the comfort of their homes. When it matters, the common man, illiterates and poor men turn in large numbers and they vote without fail. This will make all the difference. Thanks for this opportunity to interact.

  74. Jayasree Madam , Ever since he kick-started his campaign, Narendra Modi has been criss-crossing the country. But, BJP's PM candidate has rarely felt homesick, thanks to a fleet of three aircraft — one jet and two choppers — which bring him home every night.//

Modi and home sick. he was a sang pracharak and has criss crossed the country several times before. He has went to all corners of india. He does not need comfort. He still almost lives like a simple karya karta. He is of-course using jets/planes it is only sane to think that such people better take jets than clogging the roads. i am not in for Modi Vs Jayalalita comparison - as i said earlier, i have access to first hand data - not the ones JJ or modi say in the meetings.

Well. Sixteenth May will provide all the answers to our prayers. You may have already done your home work on the astrological features of this day. Kindly share with us your observations.

Whatever may be the outcome – one thing has come out very clearly. Modi has taken extra pains to travel and in every state (other than those ruled by BJP) he has found fault with the leaders. In addition to Rahul, Sonia, MMS at the Centre he has sharply criticised Mamta, Mulayam, Farooq, Jayalalitha, etc. He has earned more enemies than friends in the Indian sub-continent than before and in politics the goodwill and friendship is very crucial for survival and
    performance.

Does he mean he and his BJP Chief Ministers alone are capable, trust worthy, faultless? I will not include all his alliance partners – Shiv Sena, TDP, Captain, etc. We know them better. This attitude is not good either for him, his party or fellow Indians.

He has been quoting Swami Vivekananda on every possible occasion. But his practices and approaches are widely differing.

I only recall on this occasion, the predictions by a very few learned people – the times for BJP are not good and this party may not even survive in its present form. The next couple of years are going to be very crucial for BJP.

Modi has prepared the ground work for this down fall of BJP very well.

  76. Read your views but do not agree with your arugument to support jayalalita. It is clear we need a proven leader at the centre to give direction to the country. Modi has got a clean image while delivering better growth in gujarat. I have spoken to cross section of people from business to bureaucrats who has interacted with Modi and the feedback is extremely positive on the no nonsense decisive leadership. The growth in gujarat has benefitted all incl muslims.Cong and others are playing the muslim card to polarise votes. Let the muslims speak to their counterparts and ascertain the ground reality.

Lastly we need to remember Jayalalita is as corrupt as MK. Better select someone who has proved himslef

In the last few days, this is exactly the opinion of common man. Infact, I can hear people talking that JJ govt has appropriated Thirumangalam formula from DMK. In the 2011 assembly elections, it is only the DMK which indulged in cash for vote. In the current elections, it is AIADMK which competed equally with DMK in this. This resulted in people saying that ADMK has "earned" so much in these 3 years, just like DMK. JJ, at the outset, should have made a public statement that she won't tolerate vote for cash and whoever doing that will be dismissed from the party and will also face legal action. If she had said that, the police would have been encouraged to target the DMK men also when they indulge in this. But this can't be expected from JJ simply by the way Sankarankovil, Pudukkotai & Yercaud by elections were conducted - much similar to Thirumangalam. In sharp contrast, Modi did not even bother to campaign in dec 2013 by elections when he was busy in campaigning in other states, and only 2 ministers of Modi's cabinet campaigned, but BJP won handsomely. This is where JJ should learn from Modi.

  80. Everybody doled out money to voters. No discrimination. Similarly corporates dole out to political parties for election fund. Why they dole out to them? What is the quid pro quo?

We blame vote for cash at visible ground level but how many of us are ready to blame 'Cash for what???' at corporate - politician level?? Any doubts on who leads this list this time?

All parties were said to have given cash to voters. Who would the voters prefer in such a situation? They can't vote for all the parties. Their choice is their own, though they expect to be given money. The political parties also know this. So the cash for vote is beset with uncertain returns. But can the same be said for corporate doles?

Another side of the story. Cash in TN, but liquor in Gujarat! April 24th news is that Gujarat is second after Andhra in liquor seizures that were to be given as doles to voters in Gujarat. Read here:

  81. From Mark Tully's interview. As an impartial observer with no political leaning, Tully commented in a TV debate on LS polls in Delhi, that AAP has sizable supporters in Delhi. Prabhu Chawla on the day of TN polls opined that higher turnout shows support for JJ for there is no anti-incumbency and Modi is an unknown factor beyond cities. It turned out that capital city with BJP candidate in the fray polled the least in this election. So much for the Modi wave in TN.

    From Tully's interview:-

    http://asiahouse.org/modi-constraints-forms-government-says-mark-tully/

//Is it true that the business community in India backs Modi?//

The business community in India tend to back all the parties. They give money to any party they think has a chance because they want to retain their hold and influence but it is clear there is a lot of money going to the BJP and a lot is coming from Indians abroad.

//Some people say that Modi is all about development and not about social welfare.//

What he would seem to be wanting to do is to spend Government money on infrastructure and to try to get investment going by doing that; but actually what is needed also is more money for education and health and he will find it very difficult not to continue with the existing social support like the rural employment guarantee schemes unless he radically improves the tax collection system so he could find himself in a bind; either the fiscal deficit will widen or he will have to cut down on social spending which would be very unpopular in the long run.

If per chance non BJP government were to be formed at Centre and if they decide to go after Adani group by constituting a committee to look into the whole land allocations and decide to take back the land, what would happen to the credibility? It is better to avoid 'tutu' mentality while in public service. The coin has two sides and every one has equal probability to call his/her stake / side. Hence it is better not to focus to much on others and find fault with others; rather it is advisable to focus what one can do for the country; how one can be different in delivering goods for the people. Indian voters can spring surprises at any moment. Modi could have come out clean had he focused only on his programs. He has let a very big opportunity to go by his focus on others, blaming others, proclaiming that he is too good, his model is the only model which can work and unnecessary this has happened the pandora's box. The worms from this box may cause irrepairable damage. Thanks.

  83. Not withstanding the comparison of cash to corporate vs Cash for vote, one can definitely say that the latter is banned by law. I don't think it is happening extensively in other states as much as it happens in TN. It doesn't matter to me if it happens in other states or not, but in TN, this is one thing which is a similarity between both the dravidian parties, other similarities being TASMAC and Freebie culture. In other states, I can definitely say that in none of the by elections, you can find the entire cabinet camping in the constituency and distributing money. If that would have been the case, then ruling party would have won all the by-elections in all the states that were held in recent times. Whereas the reality is that you can find ruling party losing lot of by-elections in different states. Even in Gujarat, BJP lost a by election in 2012. Also, when congress lost the 2012 elections in Gujarat, its state leader Arjun Modhvadia simply said that Modi fooled the people by his fake development claims and also polarised the elections on religious lines etc. He didn't say that Modi won by using money power/muscle power. Even Modi's sworn enemy shankarsingh vagela didn't make that claim.
You have compared Modi & JJ using helicopters. But what you forgot to mention is that Modi's ministers do not prostrate with folded hands before the helicopter when it takes off. Also, Modi considers his ministers as his partners in his government. He respects them in equal way they respect him. He is not so arrogant to expect his ministers to fall at his feet or expect them to sit in the edge of their seats or do some aasanams while talking to him. In fact Modi has groomed an excellent second level leadership in Gujarat - be it Anandi Ben Patel, Jay narayan Vyas or even Amit Shah. So, even when he becomes PM, Gujarat's administration will run without his help. Whereas in TN, say if JJ becomes PM or if she goes to jail (in disproportionate wealth case), TN will be ruled only by a dummy like Zero Pannerselvam or some other ADMK doll, because Jayalalithaa doesn't care about grooming leaders who are capable, but has only groomed self-serving slaves, who talk all sort of non-sense both inside and outside the assembly.
As to illicit liquor in Gujarat, Raj Thackeray has several times alleged that those who sell illicit liquor in Maharashtra and neighboring Gujarat are mostly Biharis and other north indians from UP/Punjab. He had also mentioned that despite there are authorized liquor shops in Maharashtra, people prefer the illicit liquor since it is much cheaper. While Raj thackeray is vociferous in sending the biharis and north indians out, Modi is not the kind of regional chauvinist to do things like that.

  86. @ Mr Krishnan S
As I don't want to engage in an argument which will be like repeating whatever I have written earlier,(because same accusations have been written) I am taking up only those which I think need other way of thinking.

//Arjun Modhvadia simply said that Modi fooled the people by his fake development claims and also polarised the elections on religious lines etc. He didn't say that Modi won by using money power/muscle power. Even Modi's sworn enemy shankarsingh vagela didn't make that claim. //

Which is more dangerous - polarising on religious lines, or giving out cash?

Even in the case of cash, DMK only started. It is similar to freebie culture DMK started. If DMK gives freebie, ADMK can not remain quiet by giving sermons. It will lose and it can't stop DMK from coming back if it does not check DMK's freebies. That is why JJ offered a range of freebies.

Similarly with cash. If DMK is giving cash, ADMK also is forced to give cash, otherwise, DMK will win the 'loyality' of these people for having taken cash.

Today, almost all parties had given cash or kind. Its not right to single out ADMK. People demand cash not for voting - because they can not vote for all parties by taking money from all of them. Today in TN, cash is not an incentive. It is something the voters demand as a right. They are no longer lured to vote for a particular party by taking cash.

Remember what MK said when it became known that it is going to be multi-cornered contest? He said 'makkaLukku aadhaayam' - benefit for people. Cho was asked to comment on this and he said that perhaps MK means people (voters) can get cash or kind from many parties at a time. That is the reality check behind cash given to voters. They expect and demand cash from all parties who come to them for votes. They take from everyone and goes to polling booth. Because of this they can not afford to tell to whom they voted. This perhaps explains why exit polls in TN is always wrong.

Read today's Thuglak. In the article titled "karutthuk kanippu anubhavangal", the reporters had written how the people dodged them without telling their preferences. They would never tell it to anyone. This is a tactic to keep everyone guessing to whom they would vote. If they reveal, it would be known to everybody in their area and would make them appear as a supporter of so and so party. They never like to show such allegiance. In the TOI article I quoted in one of the comments reveals that such 'neutrality' helps them to go to any party meeting for something in return. The cash for vote also requires them to be 'neutral' or giving confidence to each contact secretively. It helps in making themselves look pliable for any party man who approaches them. Rural or urban, the poor are unanimous in this behaviour.

There is another rationale that I heard. On the day of polling Koyembedu market was closed. Many vendors could not earn their daily income because of that. They expect income like this to make up.

It is even suspected that this cash is one reason for increased voting percentage. Check out this cartoon in Dinamani.

    http://www.dinamani.com/cartoon/2014/04/25/%E0%AE%B5%E0%AE%BE%E0%AE%95%E0%AF%8D%E0%AE%95%E0%AF%81-%E0%AE%AA%E0%AE%A4%E0%AE%BF%E0%AE%B5%E0%AF%81-73/article2188110.ece

  87. Prostrating before JJ:-

She did not ask for it. Earlier in those days she tried to stop it, but could not stop. There were reports long ago, that she threatened to take action against them who do. But it could not be stopped.

Falling on feet happens to Modi also. Calling it as a culture is what media does. JJ is not shrewd like Modi in crafting an image for her or for creating an aura around her or in marketing herself. So far in India two people have been marketed well. One Sonia Gandhi family. Next is Modi. The BJP spokesperson in today's News X debate said this. He asked what is wrong in marketing Brand Modi, when Congress is doing the same for Sonia family.

    Successor to JJ:-
ADMK is a huge organization that she inherited from MGR. Certainly she would find a successor to lead after her. She can not and would not allow it to drift away by stale leadership. MGR also was in that dilemma on his successor. There were some in his ministry aping for that role but they didn't have mass appeal. In that background only, MGR picked out JJ due to her visibility, familiarity and popularity among the masses. Such features are a need in today's TN to maintain the success and relevance of ADMK among the masses.

When a right person emerges, I think she will groom him / her. The same idea is relevant in a national party like BJP too. Modi was catapulted to this level because of these quotients. He was sent to Gujarat by Advani decade ago just in view of this kind of capability to galvanize the party. His role in Rath yatra at that time gave Advani such confidence in him. Chumma yaarum position kodukkarathu illai. Similarly Modi keeping an Amit shah means Amit Shah fulfills Modi's intentions. But same Amrit shah is not acceptable to many in the party.

I suggest readers to put themselves in others' shes and think from their angle and not remain brain washed.

In today's Thuglak, Cho's editorial exactly reflects what I have been saying to justify support for JJ.

All your criticisms are about JJ of olden times and she had moved on. And I have replied to almost all of them somewhere here. On Shankaracharya I had written many comments in another article.

On the constant talk of her being arrogant - let me tell you that I am also branded as arrogant and egoist by many in my long journey in social life. I ran an all- women magazine and with them conducted the first ever eye donation campaign in my district. I know how difficult it is to stand up against the male-leaning society without any back-up. I was even tipped to contest Councillor election which I could have won without contest as others decided to opt out if I was in the fray, but I kept out. I know how difficult it is to manage the pressures and pulls of vested interests in a completely male dominated and opinionated society. My assertiveness, frankness and straightforwardness had earned me names as egoist, arrogant and head-weight. Naturally I am able to empathize with Jayalalithaa!

  90. Dear Mr Guru Raghavan.

Modi holding the lotus emblem while talking to the media:-

I dont know how many people happened to see the footage of JJ at the time of her casting the vote and talking to media. She was crisp in saying that she would talk after the results were out and all that she could say was to appeal to the people to cooperate with EC in conducting the poll peacefully. It was a dignified talk. To the consternation of readers let me say that her conduct throughout this campaign was dignified and of high standard which no other leader in India can match.

These leaders know pretty well the code of rule on what to speak / do or what not to. If Modi says that he does not know the code, how is it possible as he had contested elections many times? If he says that he knows, then that act is nothing but arrogance and scant regard for law. If he says that he was absent minded in holding it, could a leader of his stature be absent minded for so long, right from the time he clicked a photo of himself with that emblem in hand and sitting in front of the mikes holding it in the front?

Dear readers, we all started to support Modi as he symbolized a new culture - it includes high standards in talks, thought and behavior. I am disappointed in some of his ways. It is not my intention or job to show where he has slipped. But in the case of TN election scene, he had erred. He is shooting on all sides indiscriminately. I think he has lost all friends who could have come to him post poll. It seems Moon- Rahu period is affecting his thought process as his recent speeches are not what is expected of him at this stage of polling.

  91. //Which is more dangerous - polarising on religious lines, or giving out cash? //
ROFL!!. So if you accept Gujarat Congress position on Modi, why can't you accept TN congress leaders' abusive comments on personal life of Jaylalithaa - particularly that of EVKS elangovan and P. Chidambaram?

If DMK does something then AMDK should ape it even if it is illegal? Then people can give equal chances by rotation once in 5 years rather than ADMK alone? This is where Modi's statement comes true, both parties are not interested in people welfare.
You are saying that when time comes, JJ will groom second level leaders. But ever since 1991, in ADMK, other than JJ, everyone is ABSOLUTE ZERO. Atleast one would have expected her to groom leaders who are atleast 25% of her caliber, if not 80 or 90%. The so called no.2 in JJ's ministry - Mr Zero Pannerselvam is being chased away by people in his constituency, then you can imagine the other leaders. Leaders don't come up just like that. If JJ feels that in her ministry, some one becomes more popular than her, she won't waste even a minute to throw him out - example - Mr Viswanathan, who is currently heading VIT university. In Thuglak, he had mentioned how he had been sidelined systematically by JJ, when he was food minister.

    "Falling on Modi's feet also"
But Modi never allows people older to him or even similar to his age to fall on his feet. If someone does it, he reciprocates by falling on their feet also. Only few days ago in Punjab, while campaigning he did that.

    //Prostrating before JJ:-
She did not ask for it. Earlier in those days she tried to stop it, but could not stop. There were reports long ago, that she threatened to take action against them who do. But it could not be stopped. //
This is an outdated argument. She is shuffling her ministers for reasons best known to her, she can do that also when they indulge in this kind of sycophancy. Atleast she can ask her ministers/MLAs in assembly not to talk garbage under the guise of sycophancy towards her. People who respect Modi call him Modiji. Like that every politician in this country are called only by their names followed by the word ji. But in case of JJ, it will be Manbumigu idhayadheivam dr puratchi thalaivi amma. Please watch the assembly recordings - as recent as 6 months back. Whenever the ministers/MLAs describe her by these epithets, and when the camera is focused on JJ, you can find her smiling and enjoying. Her slaves knows it very well, by looking at her face. No wonder, they get encouragement and continue this gibberish with greater vigor.
You are saying Amit Shah is not acceptable to many in the party. The same case with JJ also. She was not acceptable to the likes of veerappan, nedunchezhian, ponnaiyan, etc. Then how come MGR took confidence in her and side-stepping them and groomed her? Same thing will Modi also do. There is nothing succeeds like success. If Amit Shah is able to get atleast 50 seats for BJP in UP, automatically he will also be accepted.

The question is not who sell and who buy, but that Gujarat is not 'dry' and administration is not effective.//

Here, you are talking in the utopian language of AAP. In a population of 5.5 crores, nothing can become 100% perfect. But most of the cases who are caught in buying-selling transaction are only from North India.
In today's editorial Cho himself said that only very few people accept his position in his last 2 week editorials - means, people are not having exactly the same opinion on JJ as they had for her 3 years ago. If you go to thuglak weekly facebook, you can find lot of comments exposing the hollowness of cho's reasoning.
//JJ is not shrewd like Modi in crafting an image for her or for creating an aura around her or in marketing herself. So far in India two people have been marketed well. One Sonia Gandhi family. Next is Modi. The BJP spokesperson in today's News X debate said this. He asked what is wrong in marketing Brand Modi, when Congress is doing the same for Sonia family. //
Modi did not market himself for the last 12 years. It is the biased media which marketed him by keeping on harping 2002 ghosts which created sympathy in people about him. As to sonia & her family, she has all the main-stream channels at her disposition - be it Nehru Dynasty TeleVision (NDTV), Headlines Today or Congress News Network (CNN-IBN) etc., whose antecedents can be linked to congress leaders in some or other way. Anyways, most of the people never believes these news channels, just like how people don't believe Jaya TV, Kalaignar TV and other political party channels.

  93. Dear Jayasree Madam,

full blown support for Amma. BTW, i am from Mannarkudi area. Amma's friend's side people have associations with our family (can't tell what ways). i have too much information about what goes on. You had asked for listing down Amma's deeds. I can list even the unknowns. We have the entire map of who is who and who does the dirty work for Amma.
If you believe there is no corruption in JJ's current and 2001 tenures i am very sorry. It is only that they came out of the lack of experience. If lack of political experience can make her pull down BJP government, lack of experience indeed caused her to get caught during 1991 tenure.

Amma one her own is a good administrator, however she has Zero faith on anyone else. All decisions have to be taken by her, no independent decisions can be take, if taken that person will be thrown out. in this sense, she is very insecure.

If only she empowers a few and allows the babus to work TN can flourish. TN is lagging seriously in development and has lost 10 good years. When you support JJ, please also remember to keep these points in mind and bring them up.

Heroine worship is as bad as Hero worship.

Amma's standards to law are well known in the vaida cases. Cash for votes etc.

It is common knowledge that JJ did not hit back at Modi for his meeting with Rajini. It is the threat from meharbaan Peer Jamaludin of tahheed jamaat that caused a change in her attitude.

despite all this, please go ask JJ in person, she will say she is so much indebted to Modi for having saved her life. She will support modi post elections.

You should compare JJ with the likes of Naidu's not with Modi. He is certainly class apart when it comes to administration, strategy, and execution. This i say with first hand information.

  94. On your comment on the male chauvinistic society and how women will find it difficult, I can only say that people do not dub all women in politics as arrogant. You can find Sushma Swaraj, Nirmala Seetharaman, thamizhisai soundarrajan, vanathi srinivasan etc in BJP who are being respected. Also Jaya Jaitley of samatha party was respected even by even her opponents. Even Sushma Swaraj is hated currently only because of her blatant attempt to limit BJP's chances in states like Madhya Pradesh and NOT because she is a woman.
Regarding your comment identifying yourself with JJ and your empathy with her, I have only thing to say on this - the collective of conscience of people can never be wrong. People do see JJ as crass opportunist just like MK - when she instructs the authorities to give uninterrupted power supply in the areas of her campaign and also her instructions to minimize power outage till the elections are over and once the elections got over, again back to power cuts - which has made common man angry - not because JJ is a woman or male dominated society etc. Infact in the current situation, women are more angry in rural areas with JJ for increasing TASMAC outlets to offset the revenue loss incurred out of giving freebies - which was proved with data points by Tamizharuvi Manian in his interview in Thanthi TV. Please remember that even now more people hate MK - not because of gender factor, but only because of his family rule, land grabbing, cinema grabbing etc. But if ADMK thinks that this alone would bring them back in 2016, they will be mistaken, because if you see the 2011 assembly results closely, DMK and its allies lost many seats by wafer thin margin. When i converted the 2011 assembly seats to parliamentary seats, by clubbing the assembly seats into the respective parliamentary seats, I found to my surprise that DMK has won 9 seats - 7 of them by comfortable margins. Also, I found that DMK lost by a whisker in 2 more seats. So, ADMK cannot imagine that people will vote for them in 2016, just because DMK is bad. People expect hard results, they don't care even if the truth is that the previous govt has done damage which will take 10 years to rectify. They expect the present govt to show results atleast in 2 or 3 fronts. Besides, the new generation of voters do not want freebies, they want to buy things on their own and live a dignified life like middle-class people. If JJ cannot ensure that in the next 2 years, they will be voting for some other front - which will only split votes and bring back DMK to power.

  95. Modi is being aggressive now against, Farook, mamata et al just to garner floating votes. This may or may not be right strategy. We will have to wait and watch. Please look at today's campaign videos of Modi at Bihar. he has come back to development and softened down.

  96. Full blown hatred for Jayalaithaa!!
An opinionated society well oiled by MK propaganda can not be expected to speak anything different. Not many takers for Cho! Well, let people get what they deserve - MK, Vaiko (he gloated yesterday on ruling TN), Vijaykanth, Stalin, Kanimozhi, Ramadoss etc. Be well off with them.

On the accusation of JJ changing attitude (to take on BJP) due to threat of withdrawal by Muslim outfit, Tauheed, please check the facts. I am closely watching hour by hour the election happenings all these days.

Modi met Rajini on 13th April (sunday) and on that day JJ accused BJP and Congress as undependable in getting Cauvery water. This is not a new accusation but spelt by her in Vanagaram meet a year ago when she announced the decision not to tie up with either Congress or BJP.She cited the same reason at that time itself.

The Muslim outfit snapped ties with her only on Tuesday, 15th April, that is after she shot her first accusation. Then after Modi equated DMK and ADMK as same, she retorted how ADMK can be equated with DMK while ADMK has done much for the welfare of the people. Please check the talks and dates before commenting. If JJ had wanted to appease the Muslim outfit or threatened by them, she could started her salvos against BJP beforehand and not waited till the time that Modi came to meet Rajini.

Check this news link for the date when Modi met Rajini:-
    http://indiatoday.intoday.in/story/rajinikanth-meet-modi-bjp-star-campaigner-seeks-cinema-icon-support-for-lok-sabha-polls/1/355501.html

It was on that day that JJ spoke of BJP in the rally at Karur and Perambalur. Check here:

    http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/home/lok-sabha-elections-2014/news/Jayalalithaa-makes-first-attack-on-BJP-as-Modi-arrives-in-Chennai/articleshow/33713845.cms

The Tauheed snapped ties with JJ only after this - on Tuesday, the 15th. Check here:

    http://www.thehindu.com/news/national/tamil-nadu/thowheed-jamaath-withdraws-support-from-aiadmk/article5916384.ece

If JJ was really intended to satisfy Tauheed faction, she would have spoken on communal vs secular issue. But it is for everyone to see and on record, that JJ conducted an excellent campaign speech throughout by sticking to issues and issues only. Modi did not match her on this account - a recent example being his violation of EC code. But here too the blind Modi fans can be expected to support him.

The country can not be run by pitting one section against the other. Polarization is going to extract its price which the country is going to pay in the coming years. What started as development and good governance plank as Modi-talk had degenerated into polarization and abuses. Is this what the country and its Gen-next needs?

    ReplyDelete
  97. On gender power:-

The struggle comes when the male thinks that the female is a threat to him. Sushma or Thamizhisai or Nirmala or vanathy etc were not in powerful position like JJ to handle challenges. Another issue is when the said female is from own flock, the male does not have any issues, but if she is from another flock, in this context, another political party, they would say anything about her. That is what makes things different for JJ and others.

    Power problem:-
There is no logic in the accusation of no power-cut till elections and resorting to power-cut after elections. The problem is the gap between demand and supply. There is a shortage of power which leads to power cuts. If the govt is able to supply power or avoid power cut till elections, from where they got the power to fill the shortage? They were able to supply power means they managed to source it (from diff sources including the fluctuating wind power).

What prevents them to continue with that power even after elections because certainly no one would like to earn a bad name by resorting to power cuts? If they are not able to supply power, it means the shortfall could not be augmented. That they had to resort to power cut means the shortage is there. To abuse this an wanton activity is absurd.

i doubt if TN's intelligence is so poor. a few days before 14th Tauheed jamat's break up news was leaked in the media (thatstamil.com)

Well they broke ties on 15th, the message was sent out very clearly earlier. People predicted that JJ would attack modi well before

  99. On the power front, people's question is only this: How come there is an unerring consistency of less power outages during election season and after the elections are over, there is a demand-supply gap? 3 weeks back, almost all newspapers reported that TANGEDCO has been instructed not to cut power till elections are over. This is what people call as crass opportunism. DMK did the same thing on 2011 - till april 13, 2011, there are no powercuts (election day), from the very next day, we started having powercuts.

As to your comment on "male thinks that female is threat to him" etc. and all - i have only one thing to say: aam aadmi or aam aurath do not care about who rules them - man, woman or transgender. They expect only results, simple.

  100. Madam Ji, I am sorry to say this. Leopards, Hyenas and J do not change their colours or behavior. I witnessed her pom and extravaganza only in September last year and not in some distant past. Want to know about crooked cops of Chennai? There were cops with their van parked on Cathedral road(?) who were collecting bribe money for illegal turns of vehicles from Poes Garden. Apparently you are not supposed to make a right turn from Poes Garden. ( there was a small sign about this, well hidden down the lane, about 100 mts from the main road. Driver of my tourist car paid bribe of Rs100 for this illegal act!) On an average day, I reckon, that these cops could be collecting somewhere between Rs 20,000 to 30,000, minimum) All in front of her majesty's residence. You have not given you opinion on the cooked up case against HH Sankrachariyar. I believe the case was brought on at the instigation of the Church. Someone can enlighten me on this. Even in this elections, public vehicles are being used for ferrying crowd for her meetings.

  101. @ Mr rk,

Corruption is endemic and epidemic that it needs overall compliance of all people to eradicate it. At best, the use of electronics can help in curbing corruption. You can read an article on that by Prof Vaidhyanathan in my blog. One of the first reforms on these lines was taken by JJ after coming to power this time. The use of electronic receipts by traffic police is an attempt on this line to curb corruption in this regard. Its working as we can see in the roads even today. There may be some officials who are flouting it but you can send a complaint. The administration today is sensitive to complaints and takes action.

One of my family members is working in an important and core Govt set up that deals with common man everyday. I know the kinds of checks and balances that have been ushered in to reduce corruption and penalize offenders. Lot of changes today under JJ in this regard. She is hated for these measures by the old bull dogs of the set up who have been habitual offenders.

On shankarachraya issue, you yourself had been in the comment chain in one of the articles where I wrote on this issue. Read it here:

    http://jayasreesaranathan.blogspot.in/2010/10/dont-underestimate-jayalalithaa.html#uds-search-results

Another comment where Ms Radha Rajan argued with me on the same issue can be read here:-

    http://jayasreesaranathan.blogspot.in/2011/05/season-of-confessions.html

I dont how many people who read this have the mental evolution to understand the work of Karma in our lives. No one is above the board. Sita's version on how she and Rama are under the spell of destiny (vidhi) can be read in verses 3,4 and 5 in 37th chapter in Sundhara khandam. The link to the chapter:-

    http://valmikiramayan.net/utf8/sundara/sarga37/sundara_37_frame.htm

The effects of one's action on larger areas and many human lives do come back as a baggage. The effects can be only known in hindsight as how we judge Gandhi and Nehru today. With emerging information on how Gandhi treated his wife and treated the issues do concur with his horoscope. His horoscope is not that of a saviour. But even then the motive behind such acts is what Destiny takes into account as how the law of today takes prime cognizance of motive behind any crime.

On that count, I repeat that JJ alone had stood in the current elections as one complying with rules of law (of eternal Dharma raja) that do not invite an adverse karma for her. She was not so earlier, but JJ of today is a different person. Her 10th lord Jupiter dasa having started now and running in ketu's star posited in the 5th house whose sign lord Venus is exalted in 10th shows her in evolved mental level in this dasa which will be a karmic mission with which she is born.

  103. People are taking extreme positions be it for JJ or Modi. Let us first accept no one is perfect and whoever comes is going to make mistakes and will have already made mistakes.Intent is key here.
Modi has a corruption-free image , good administrator, clever politician and has maintained law/order in a riot-history ridden state. As to his role in 2002 no idea what to believe so go by the SC verdict and he was only 5 months in as CM.
As for his marital status, its never been a secret, I have read about it years ago and all Gujaratis are aware, he has never hidden it.And the only person to judge him on this is his wife, we as bystanders should not pass judgements, we do not know the intimate details.
JJ has all abilities of Modi, yes she has the taint of corruption in her first term but she is not the same person as before. Her personal life has also has lot of gossip but again we should not pass judgements.
As for so-called arrogance somehow in India qualities admired in a male leader are seen as arrogance in women.
Make your choice based on objectivity. Dont make God out of the person you favour and a Monster of the other. All are human and you are not going to see Ram Rajya under anyone as its Kalyug.Accept small frailties and see how genuine they are on the main matters. For example people falling at JJ's feet does not impact you the common man in anyway as long you are not asked to do same.Same for Modi we have to judge him on his whole attitude towards women not one single instance.
My preference for JJ is because I do not want to vote for BJP's alliance partners in TN and I do not recollect even one significant BJP leader here.I have never even heard them during the SL Tamil issue.

  104. JJ doesn't have political acumen to adapt herself to the changing situations and make right decisions. If she had aligned with BJP by giving 5 seats, it would have been 37 seats - atleast 33 going for ADMK. But cho inadvertently talked about her being PM in 2012 thuglak anniversary - following which on the same year, she announced that ADMK will go alone. Because of her stubbornness - like a proverbial coconut tree, her party is not able to make a national presence unlike Karuna who is a proverbial naanal tree. Kannadasan has written in his song "Amaidhiyaana nadhiyinile odam", where a line comes like this: "Thennai ilankeetrinile thaalaattum thendral adhu, thennai thanai saaithu vidum puyalaaga varumbozhudhu". So, as long as there is a breeze, no damage comes to coconut tree, whereas if a cyclone comes, coconut tree perishes, just like people who don't adapt to situations but show stubbornness or obstinacy, when the situation is hopelessly adverse. This is the reason that people like MGR & Karuna always being part of central govt, MGR being part of both Janata and congress governments and Karuna being part of whoever comes at the centre, compared to JJ, who is left out.

The one and only best CM of all times - Kamaraj had described both the dravidian parties as "orey kuttaiyil ooriya mattaigal"

If he were alive today, he would have undoubtedly described MuKa and JJ as (ore thottathil vilaindha visha chedigal (poisonous weeds)"

Am trying to go back in my memory lane - to be precise in the 1960s. I am wondering why in Tamil Nadu Congress lost is power - Till date Congress could not regain its power in Tamil Nadu. What went wrong? Is the position changed now for Congress? In my view Congress and BJP are one and the same - with regard to their policies and programs. There is no major change. This being so, both Congress and BJP cannot even dream of capturing power in the State. The people have so far preferred only a regional party to govern the state and only a national party to govern the centre. Will this time be different? Tamil Nadu people are very smart - they know very well what causes major damage and what causes least damage to their daily lives.

  107. Even at the age of 90, MuKa is playing politics over dead body. How worse can this get? The chennai central blast has nothing to do with TN govt, simply because neither the train is originating from Chennai central, nor the blast took place after several hours/minutes of the arrival of train to chennai central. Infact, CCTV footages in bangalore city railway station clearly shows 6 people entering separately into the platform 4 of the train and regroup themselves into 3 groups of 2 people each. When the train stopped at Bangalore cantonment railway station, 4 people alighted immediately. Those 4 people identity matched with that taken in bangalore city railway station. Obviously why would people board in a train only to alight within 10 minutes of journey? Obviously it is clear that the bomb was placed in Bangalore city. Also, the bomb is timed to go off when the train is running (around 7.30, it would have been running near ongole, so as to create maximum damage). Due to divine intervention, train got delayed and the blast occurred when the train was stationary limiting the damage to 1 dead and 14 injured. Knowing all these things the evil force MuKa and his son start playing dead body politics, blaming JJ and state government. Those who were expecting different brand of politics from stalin would have by now clearly known that habits die hard. Irrespective of the parliament results, 2016 will be a waterloo for DMK, as people don't want dead body politics, or family drama or family looting.

    Jayasree madam,

    Namaste

    I am Sarada.

I have been reading articles in your blog.

You are very correct in supporting Tamil Nadhu Chief Minister Jayalalitha.

I am sending this mail to your email and not to your blog because some people are completely against Jayalaitha. The moment anyone tries to put something about jayalalitha immediately they give tough comments.

Congress and BJP the National Parties want to destroy Regional Parties bit by bit.

So each one Plays their own game.

Though we still feel bad that Andhra Pradesh has been bifurcated by Congress we also know that once NDA Govt with BJP control comes to Power they would have created Telangana.

BJP Party is hell bent on dividing states for their own benefits.

All Political Parties (Congress, BJP etc etc) have to remember that there are many States in India and the big States have many problems.

Problems cannot be solved by dividing States.

Especially BJP party has to remember that lot of money will go to Politicians whenever new States are created.

The benefits which common man get are very little.

It is unfortunate to destroy lives of People for Selfishness of Politicians.

In this juncture it is very important to have a Powerful Politician like Jayalalitha from South India.

It will be good if AIADMK wins most of the MP seats from Tamil Nadu.

Power at centre is not something which can be controlled by Congress and BJP party.

It is very important that Congress, BJP, Communists etc respect Regional Parties and do the best for the respective States.

    Thanking You

    G.Sarada

  109. The only way forward for TN is to get rid of all these " Kazakams",roots and all once for ever. Let some sanity prevail and let hero/heroine worship get buried for ever.(ex: " Amma unavagam, Amma this or Amma that or MGR/ Annadurai Uni,etc) The " Tamil parochialism" should also get the boot. Tamilians should come out of their narrow outlook and should start thinking themselves as Indians first and foremost. To achieve this end, TN should vote for a National party and it's alliance. Obviously Congress and dynasty rule should be chucked into the dustbin of history. For that there is no better person than NaMO. He has a proven track record, unabashedly calls himself an Indian Hindu and is not dancing to this tune of pseudo secularism. Voting for egocentric JJ with HER track record can only spell disaster for the nation.

    ReplyDelete
  110. Mdm JS,

General Election 2014 has seen the maximum polarisation - on religious lines, caste / community lines, economic status basis, etc etc and all of them were planned and executed by one major national party. It is a do or die - not for the national party - but for one individual.

Can we afford such a division? For the sake of few votes, few more seats, this individual has gone on criticism-spree against all regional parties who have not aligned with him and his national party. This approach is not good for the country. All the promises were given. Can they all be fulfilled and executed?

When the policies and programs are no different from the present national party, how this individual and his national party are going to govern, if they wrest power and form the government.

My view, most challenging days are ahead for the country and all of us. How the prices are going to come down when this individual and his national party have promised increase in support price for food grains? How this individual and his party are going to bring down petrol prices and the inflation? Does he has a magic wand in his hand?

How he is going to undo the damages caused in the blow hot election campaign? Can he and his party win over any more friends? Can he and his party retain his existing friends and allies? Has any done calculations?

I am afraid if some thing were to go wrong in this election calculation - if this individual loses the election, his very position as a State Chief Minister will be under threat.

The national party will bound to be affected - there will be deep division inside this party leading to its break up.

The costlier mistakes committed by this individual and his national party are - admitting leaders from the other ruling national party, firing all round salvos against Mamta and JJ, calling for votes in the name of religion (even covertly), in the name of community, in the name of poverty, etc, etc.

I believe Indian voters are very shrewed and they know what is good to hear for entertainment value (so that they can flock to such meetings) and who should be elected to govern the country (so that the delicate fabric of the nation can be retained and steady progress can be ensured).

Let us await 16th May outcome.

Thanks for this opportunity to interact.

  111. Awaiting for the Exciting Election Results.
In 2009, there were 4 Crore voters and around 3 Crore votes polled, resulted in 29 Lakh people voted for Vijayakanth without any wave.
Everywhere there was a huge support to BJP especially among youngsters and middle class voters. They never thinked of what Vijayakanth/Ramadoss could help.
They voted for the NDA alliance. In 2014, there were 5.5 Crore Voters enrolled and 4 Crore voter Punched their vote.I would expect around atleast 1 crore votes from the 4 crore votes polled which may great disaster to ADMK.
They young voters never thought of what the TN BJP alliance could reciprocate us.
They say the only word “Narendra Modi”. It was stunning to hear it.
But some of the Strong ADMK and DMK voters backed their parties.
Clash between ADMK and BJP should not be advantage to DMK..!!!!

Vijayakkanth was again proved that he didn't go for money and he was trying some good should happen for peopl. You people are telling that vijayakkanth is selfish.
