Rainfall 2017 – Level 2 (Planetary combinations)

Previous article:-

This is one of the difficult posts to write due to its importance and also because the year 2017 is going to have many combinations that do not support rainfall. From 2016 experience it can be said that even if the Garbottam is good at a place, if it is not supported by planetary combinations, the rainfall would fail. For example even though the daily Garbottam chart for December 2016 for my place showed rainfall around Christmas and particularly on 26th Dec in good amount,  nothing materialised. The formation of a system is there in the Bay that was expected to give some rains to the coastal regions of TN including Chennai. But that expectation died out by 26th.

This was inspite of the continuing presence of rainfall yoga of Mercury – Venus closeness that is supposed to be over only on 29th December. However there also exits two spoilers. One is that though Mercury and Venus were closing the gap between them all these days, from 19th Dec onwards, the gap started increasing as Mercury started retrogression on 19th  Dec. Between 19th Dec to 29th Dec, the gap between them increased from 28 degrees to 46 degrees. When this fast separation is happening, the expected rainfall can not materialise.

Another feature that is happening in this 10 day period is Mercury’s transit in Pooradam star which is a spoiler for rainfall as per Sapta Nadi. Between 22nd Dec and 28th Dec 2016, Mercury is transiting this star. This transit is supposed to cause winds to push away the clouds. Thus we can see an inter-play of many contradictory features spoiling rainfall.

It is a tough task to integrate the contradictory features of year 2017 in the right way to understand how the rainfall scenario is going to unfold.

Year 2017 is not going to start in a happy note because we are carrying over from the year 2016  a bad rainfall Yoga of Mars being in the forefront of all the other planets. This is going to last till 29th July 2017. Its bad influence in affecting rainfall can be known from the date it started its onward march on 25th August of 2016. From then onwards, it is all a case of botched up rainfall with only two exceptions that saw the century’s highest rainfall for September for Hyderabad and a devastating cyclone Vardah in December for Chennai. Those exceptions had their planetary justifications.

Therefore I once again reiterate that it is a much difficult task to judge which of the rainfall combinations can overpower this Martian march in the pre-monsoon and the onset of monsoon time of 2017.

If I am proved wrong I would be happy for it, for, I cannot see many positive features for a successful rainfall season of 2017.

Let me list down all the positive and negative features here. After listing them down, I have given a table of dates for rainfall and possible spoilers after integrating the spoilers.

Rainfall combinations (Ativrishti yogas) for 2017.

(1) Venus- Mercury closeness in 2017.

1
March 7 to March 25
2
April 20 to June 21
3
August 27 to October 8
4
December 13 to January 9

Comment.
On the starting dates of the above 4 periods, some spurt in rainfall can be expected. It could be sustained for the duration of each period. Mercury- Venus closeness is favourable during pre-monsoon, onset of SWM and later part of SWM. NEM period looks short.

(2) Sun overtaking Mars.

This is not exactly a Yoga, but in a scenario when Mars is in the lead of all the planets this gains importance. This happens on 29th July in the star Pushya in the watery signs of Cancer.

Comment.
Pushya signifies East and Cancer signifies North. In North, east or North east, sudden rains accompanied with stormy weather can be expected on or after 29th July.

(3) Venus in the Eastern sky transiting Magha, Purva Phalguni, Uttara Phalguni, Hasta and Chithrai

This is one of the positions of Venus associated with rainfall conditions. This happens between September 15th to November 8, 2017.

Comment.
This kind of location for Venus and Mercury in certain stars in the east or western sky is mentioned in texts as supportive or disruptive of rainfall. The above location is supportive of rainfall. We have to see how far this materializes. The stars transited by Venus indicate South East and South West India covering entire Peninsular India.

(4) Venus – Jupiter conjunction.

This conjunction happens between November 3rd  and November 26th   in the NEM season. This must ensure good rains. But from Nov 19th onwards, till Dec 10th Mars will be in Chithra star which would reduce the rainfall as per Sapta nadi Chakra. Another weakening factor is the absence of closeness between Mercury and Venus during this period. Mercury is ahead of Venus and Jupiter during this period.

Comment.
Very brief period of rainfall beset with spoilers.

(5) Saturn – Sun- Mars in alternating signs.

From December 16th onwards, these three planets are going to be in alternating signs. Closeness of Mercury and Venus starts a little earlier, on 13th December. When Moon comes in Aries from which these 3 planets would be in 7th and 9th signs from Moon, there would be rains. That would be at the end of December on 28th, 29th and 30th. This is a very short period of rainfall. However starting from 6th December Mercury starts combustion.  On the same day, Venus also starts combustion. In the absence of any spoiler at that time, some rainfall can be expected. The stars indicate that South and South west TN would get rains from this.

Comment.
For the first time in the year, not many spoilers are seen during this period. However till 23rd December Saturn would be in the forefront of all the other planets which is not a desirable feature for rainfall. Only a good Garbottam can give a saving grace.

Lack of Rainfall combinations for 2017 (Anavrishti yoga)

(1) Throughout the year of 2017, Venus is behind the Sun. This reduces rainfall.

(2) From the beginning of the year till 29th July, Mars is in the forefront of all the other planets. This causes drought like conditions.

(3) From January 27th to May 31st, Venus and Jupiter are going to be in exact opposite signs. Venus- Jupiter opposition spoils rainfall. On the other hand, the conjunction of these two planets causes abundance of rainfall which happens only between Nov 3rd and Nov 26th as written above.

(4)  From March 14th to April 13th Sun is going to be opposite to Jupiter. This also spoils rainfall in the pre-monsoon period.

(5) From June 14th to June 20thSun and Mars are going to be opposite to Saturn. This also reduces rainfall. But at this time mars would be rising and Saturn would be setting. When one planets rises and another planet sets simultaneously, there would be rainfall. So there is going to be a mix of both these yogas. The regions under influence are West and North parts of India.

(6) From June 29th to July 26th, Venus is going to be in the opposite of Saturn. This would also affect rainfall. This is also a case of one planet rising and one planet setting. To some extent this must give rainfall after a struggle. South India comes under the influence of this.

(7) Mars in front of Venus. This happens between 21st August to 27th August in the watery sign of Cancer. But this continues till October 5th , a period crucial for both SWM rainfall and timely onset of NEM rainfall.

(8) Mars will be in Leo between 27th August and 13th October. This is a rainfall deficient period. However from September 15th to October 9th, benefic Venus would join it and benefic Mercury would join it till 26th September. When benefics join Mars in Leo, the anavrishti yoga would be scuttled and it would rain.

(9) All planets behind Saturn. From September 17th onwards all planets are going to be behind Saturn. This causes famine conditions. This continues till 23rd December.

Dates of rainfall.

The year shows brief pre-monsoon showers right from March. The onset time of SWM also shows many negative combinations. There is a long hiatus in July and August with absence of rainfall support yogas at that time. There is no clear indication of withdrawal of SWM as the revival of rains spreads over September and October with spoilers at regular intervals. Second half of December shows scope for rainfall. The constant existence of contradictory yogas this year points to a deficit rainfall and concurs with Vegetable horoscopy for 2017 discussed earlier.

If these findings come true, it means the Hevilambi year prediction is true to the core and it is not right to use Tamil prediction for Keelaka varusham for North India. However the Margazhi Garbottam must be integrated with this 2nd level prediction to get a refined picture.

  1. Great. Very detailed explanation and nice summary. Thanks.

  2. Thanks Mr Venky. But I am still not sure about how mutual opposition would work. Mutual opposition reduces rainfall. But mutual opposition also means simultaneous rising and setting of these planets which is a very good rainfall yoga. In Thiruppavai Andal says, 'Velli ezhinthu viyaazhan urangittru'. The same planets (velli - venus and Viyazhan - Jupiter) are going to rise and set in the same way from 27th January to 31st May 2017. But as per anavrsihti rule, mutual opposition of these two planets discourage rainfall.

In 2016 SWM onset time, Saturn + Mars were in opposition to Sun and Venus. It did affect rainfall at that time. So my first test is in this period till May 31, when Venus and Jupiter are going to be in mutual opposition and also in rising- setting see-saw. Depending on the rainfall result then (pre-monsoon showers), I would have to revise some of the predictions given in the article, that are connected with other oppositions we are going to see in 2017. Venus opposite to saturn. Sun opposite to Jupiter and Sun opposite to saturn are going to happen. But all that would be over before the end of July.

  3. From your recent predictions,it is evident that only planetary combinations rules the raining possibilities.
Eg-You predicted Dec 11 for heavy rains since Moon was in watery sign & it becomes virtually true.
So, Does it mean Planetary combinations should be considered ahead of Garbottam & all???

  4. @ Mr Aravindan,

Planetary combinations offer the broad canvas of a probability for rainfall. Whether it would materialize in a place or not is determined by the presence of Garbottam features in a place. From the experience of 2016, I think it is better to know planetary support days and spoiler days before telling whether a good Garbottam would give rains.

I arrived at Dec 11 -12 rains for Chennai (my place of observation) mainly on the basis of Garbottam in my place 195 days ago. Since the planetary combinations favoured rainfall, it did happen.

In the beginning of the current article above I mentioned some planetary features that are stalling rainfall now, which is otherwise indicated in my Garbottam chart / data. I have written that Mercury in Purvashada would deter rains and that period ended today, the 28th of Dec. From the time Mercury (now in retrogression) started crossing the last degree of Purvashada(rather the 1st degree, as it is going backward in that star) since last night, rains had started wherever it was due in coastal TN.

But it wont last long as by tomorrow the gap between Mercury and Venus has reached the threshold limit of 45- 46 degrees. My Garbottam chart also shows rains on 1st and 2nd (and 3rd also as per my data) of Jan. But even by 1st Jan the gap between Mercury and Venus is reaching 55 degrees. Normally at that distance, rainfall is not supported. Suppose if it rains on that date and the next dates as per local Garbottam, that is a new lesson for me - that Garbottam is more powerful than planetary positions.

These predictive rules have been said long ago, atleast 2000 years ago as Brihad Samhita where these are found is supposed to be 2000 years old. What I am doing is bringing them out in a concise manner for public view and putting them to test whether they work or how much they work in current times.

  5. Important notice to all interested readers.

The Margazhi / Solar Garbottam has just begun (11 PM) today (28th Dec 2016). Due to unavoidable reasons I am not able to post by today the details of how to see that Garbottam. I request interested readers to read this link to know how to see garbottam. http://jayasreesaranathan.blogspot.in/2015/12/garbottam-begins-at-5-pm-on-29th.html

I will be posting the article (Level 3) tomorrow.

  8. @ Mr Kavin Kathirarasu,

I have started posting Margazhi garbottam articles. Please check the recent blogs where I am writing about next year's probabilities in rainfall.

On your next query, I have not developed my knowledge on predicting global events.
