Saturn- Jupiter conjunction and opposition is a curious topic for anyone interested in astrology.
The source material for this debate is Varahamihira's contention that when Saturn and Jupiter are in mutual aspect, a terrible calamity or a civil war will break out. Based on this, many expected an outbreak of war of a lesser magnitude in the year 2000 when Saturn and Jupiter were together in Taurus. But nothing happened. Earlier during the world wars, this connection between Saturn and Jupiter was not there. This connection was not there even in the Mahabharata war!
Taking a look at Varahamihira, he did not say just connection or combination. He qualified his statement by saying that when Saturn transits Krittika (Solar asterism) and Jupiter transits Vishka (Its own star) at the same time (simultaneously), calamitous conditions will prevail endangering the lives of people.
Such an exact combination did not occur even once in the last century making it a once in a rare occasion affair. The only time they came too close to exact opposition in the above said stars was in 18-10-1911. Saturn was retrograde in Bharani -4 while Jupiter was in Vishaka -2. By the time Saturn entered Krittika, Jupiter had left Vishaka.

This period was marked with many small wars throughout Europe which were anyway going on for nearly a few decades then. One interpretation can be that these wars ended in the First World War in 1919. But the year 1919 was way ahead at the time of Saturn-Jupiter opposition.
When I analyzed all the cases of Saturn –Jupiter conjunction and opposition in the last century, I found some interesting information. The conjunction happened10 times in the last century whereas the opposition happened for 20 times. They both have their share of 'Good' and 'bad' wars or hostilities.
While terrorism, with the Mother of Terror attack on WTC in the U.S. started with the conjunction of these two planets in Krittika, the growth of the worst terrorist outfits that inspired terrorism around the world namely Taliban and Al Queada started with the withdrawal of Soviet forces from Afghanistan which coincided with the Opposition between these two planets.
While the invasion of Kuwait by Iraq (Gulf war-2) started at the time of conjunction, the invasion of Iran by Iraq (Gulf War-1) started after opposition.
While most Liberation kind of insurgencies and civil wars were fought or brought to an end with the opposition of these two, it also saw the occupation of the world's one of the oldest countries of Buddhism, namely Tibet by China.
The Indo-Pak war also started around an opposition that saw the liberation of Bangladesh, but it also resulted in a never-ending problem of insurgency and terrorism by Pakistan in India.
More interestingly of all, Kargil war ended at the time of conjunction of Saturn and Jupiter in Aries within 13 degrees.
Here is the chart at the time of start of the Kargil war on May 1, 1999, followed by the chart of 26-07-1999 when the war ended.

(The 30 charts are not discussed here as it was not possible to locate a common element of strife in them. The analysis of events in Mundane astrology is basically about extrapolation. It is based on the premise that similar planetary pattern gives rise to events that are similar and repeatable. Such repeatability in events is not found in 30 charts drawn for the 30 occasions of Jupiter- Saturn opposition or conjunction.)
However I wish to state an observation in this context. Since wars and terror strikes are challenges to governments causing suffering to people, if these two elements represented by Sun and moon in a nation's natal chart are fairly placed at the time of Sat-Jup combine, no great trouble can be foreseen.
For instance, in the chart cast for the day when Kargil war ended, there were good yogas for India. The janma rasi of India natal chart (discussed in the course of this report) is Cancer with Moon in the asterism of Pushya. The 9th and 10th lords from janma rasi namely, Jupiter and Mars were in mutual aspect at that time. Jupiter also aspected the rasi lord Moon transiting its (Jupiter's) Moola-trikona. The rasi lord Moon was in 6th with trinal relationship with Jupiter. Moon was in the asterism of Venus which was aspected by Jupiter.
In Sarvashtaka varga (SAV), there were 30 bindus in the 10th house (Aries) contributed well by all the planets except Saturn. The rasi lord Moon also was well fortified in Sagittarius having 31 bindus in SAV.
Analyzing the SAV of the birth chart of India, the stars identified after making the calculations from the lagna to Saturn and Saturn to lagna are Aslesha and U.Phalguni respectively. Whenever malefics transit these two stars, calamity will befall India.
When Rahu transited Aslesha, the Kargil war broke out and lasted till Rahu was about to leave Aslesha.
When Ketu transited Aslesha with Saturn in U.Phalguni, the worst ever terror strike at Mumbai happened (26-11-2008)
Seen from the Tajaka chart for 1999, the Kali sahama was in Libra in the Tajaka chart of the year with its lord Venus in Itthashala with Jupiter, (the 10th lord in Tajaka) which was retrograde at that time. When Jupiter came straight and entered into a trinal axis with Venus in addition to aspecting it, the war or Kali was ended. This aspect falling in Leo shows the conflict in mountainous regions.
Thus the analysis of Saturn- Jupiter combine must go along with the other combinations and positions that are relevant for a country in the mundane astrology.
