சோதிடம் காட்டும் வருடப் பிறப்பு (Tamil New Year's Day in Chitthirai)

Madam,
The Tamil New year takes place when Sun transits Chithirai Maasam or when it enters into Ashwini Nakshatra in the Aries sign as per the Solar calendar in sidereal system. Different systems/calendars are showing different date periods. Could you please tell which is the correct time in which Chithirai Maasam starts? Also why does Vishu celebrations in Kerala happen a day later?

As per Drik Siddhantha: (Based on Jagannatha Hora)
1) Chithira Paksha - Sun enters Aries at 7:42 AM on 14th Apr
2) KP System - Sun enters Aries at 5:43 AM on 14th Apr
3) BV Raman - Sun enters Aries at 8:41 PM on 12th Apr
4) Pushya Paksha - Sun enters Aries at 4:18 AM on 13th Apr

As per Surya Siddhantha: (Based on Jagannatha Hora)
1) Surya Siddhantha - Sun enters Aries at 10:10 AM on 14th Apr

Other Options:
1) Vaakya Panchang : Sun enters Aries at 6:52 AM on 14th Apr (Manually calculated - Sun rise time on 14th is 5:57 AM and as per Panchang its given that Sun enters Aries at 2-17 Naaligai which is roughly 55 mins, so 5.57AM + 55 mins = 6:52AM)
2) Drik Panchang : Sun enters Aries at 8:28 AM on 14th Apr (Given as per site Drik Panchang dot com that Sun will be in Meena Rasi till 8:27 AM)

Madam, as per your perspective would be grateful if you could tell when exactly the Tamil New Year starts.

Thanks
Rajiv

@Mr Rajiv,

Traditional one is Vakya and recommended one is Drik. Others also exist and newer ones also may come in future. I follow Drik. As far as Tamil New year is concerned, the entry of Sun in Mesha / Aswini is the reckonor. If it happens in the day time, the day is taken as 1st day. If it happens at night, next day is taken as first day. I don't know about Vishu.

Dear Madam,

since you touched astrology after long time. I need your insight on Rahu in the houses of Mesha,Vrishaba,Kataka,Kanni,Makaram.

Read somewhere that Rahu in these houses give good result during its dasa and make the native rich and fame.

@ Mr Raghuraman

//since you touched astrology after long time...//

Reason being (1)no big issues at present to think from astrological angle and (2)I don't want to encourage readers getting sort of addicted to web info on astrology. The rules and aphorisms are general and cant be taken at face value. If some worthy discussion comes up I will encourage.

In the question you have asked, the houses seem to be related to exaltation and moola trikona. The fact is that there is no consensus on these houses for Rahu. I can quote 4 texts giving conflicting positions for these for Rahu and Ketu - Parasara, Uttara Kalamrita, Pulippani and Jataka Parijata. So there is no fixed idea about these.

The reliable approach is to see the bhava position of Rahu, planets conjoining it and aspecting it, the lord of the bhava where Ra, Ket are positioned, the star lords etc. If these are favorable, the major dasa of Rahu would be very good, despite the sign. In the case of aspects by Ra - Ke, some people follow Jovian aspects, 5,7 and 9. But in my experience and from what I got from my teachers, 3, 11 aspects work better.

Even position of Rahu in upachaya houses may not be all fruitful if other features of the horoscopes are not good. For example let me quote Eswara Nadi aphorism which I translated for a website. You can picturise the horoscope based on what I write here: It says when Aries lagna is occupied by Mars, Venus and Sun, and Rahu occupies 3rd house where it is aspected by Jupiter from the 9th house, the first child of the native will die in the womb. The native's father would have gains at the time of birth of the native. The native will have 2 elder brothers and 1 elder sister.

Let us examine Rahu in this case: Though Gemini is exaltation sign for Rahu (according to Jataka Parijata) its aspect on the 5th house and 5th lord Sun (11th and 3rd aspects for retro Rahu) and viraya lord Jup also casting its aspect on the 5th house and the 5th lord caused the death of the first child in the womb. The 3rd position of Rahu ensured no younger siblings for the native. Though we have no details of the running dasa - bhukti at the time of death of first child, what is revealed is the effect of Rahu on the bhavas and bhava lords, alone or in combination with other planets.

So in my opinion, a reliable prediction will take into consideration things like these and not just position of Rahu in a sign. Having said this let me give some favourable combinations that make Rahu give raja yoga results. Rahu should be in kendra or kona houses joined with kona and kendra lords respectively. In the case of upchayas 3,6 and 11, the lord of those houses must be powerful and not afflicted.

Continued form above,

also check the gochara position of Rahu and long term planets from lagna also and the houses that the gochara planets aspect and afflict in the natal chart. Combining these, one must judge the effect of Rahu dasa posited in favourable positions as written above.
