Tamilnadu government has arranged for tea parties for 17 lakh people
at a cost of 35 lakh rupees.
The objective is to dissolve caste differences and bring out an awareness
among people against discrimination.
A good step indeed.
This programme is also an indication
that Brahmins had no hand in caste discrimination.
The oppressions have been going on for ages among other castes
and Brahmins were not in the picture at all.
The hate campaign against Brahmins by politicians is a fraud that must be put to a stop.
Etthnai kaalam thaan yemaattruvaar indha naattile.
Communal reservation was introduced in Tamil nadu (The then Madras Presidency then)
as early as 1854 when the first standing order on reservation was passed
requiring the collectors to divide subordinate jobs in their districts among principal castes.
Though that order was received with protests,
the 'communal GO' was passed in 1923
which, in addition to paving way for reservation in government jobs,
also scrapped the rule of knowing Sanskrit as compulsory
for those seeking admission in medical colleges.
This was done because it was thought that compulsory knowledge of sanskrit
helped Brahmins only.
Brahmins by their avocation in Vedic studies, learned Sanskrit right from young age,
whereas this necessity was not there for other castes.
But once this clause was removed, everyone from across the society was able to seek
admission into medical colleges.
That is why we had many doctors from other castes than from Brahmin community
even as early as at the time of Independence.
It also shows that learning skills were not confined only to Brahmins.
All are capable of learning as all castes attained their name and position due to some skill.
There had never been a need to reserve seats, to the detriment of Brahmins.
And with 69% reservation now in vogue in Tamilnadu,
the discrimination against
Brahmins is total in Tamilnadu.
Just take a look at the list of students who had made it to the top 100
in PG Medical exam 2008 conducted on 24.02.2008.
With nearly 70% reservation and only 30% going for General category,
only 2 OC students were able to find place in the top 100.
This means 28% of 30% general seats have been bagged by other castes only.
(the list given below)
The same is the case in UG medical and engineering streams too.
This is not a recent phenomenon.
Even before 69% was introduced, this was the scenario.
The list of students selected for the streams pasted in the Directorate at those times
was there for everyone to see how other castes only dominated.
Thus there is no stuff in the declaration that other castes can not compete with Brahmins.
To say so and to imply so by means of reservation,
the politicians of the so-called self-respecting movement are only hurting
the self-respect of the people of other castes.
Will they realize?
Will the politicians stop this fraud agaisnt Brahmins?

From
High tea for 17 lakh villagers across TN
Chennai, April 22:
The government is planning a series of tea parties for 17 lakh people across 37,000 villages in the state in the coming months, according to a senior police officer. The officials call it social justice tea parties. The Rs 70 lakh Centre assisted project is aimed at dissolving caste differences, particularly dalit discrimination in the rural areas, said Dr. Prateep V. Philip, inspector general of police, social justice and human rights.
“A sum of Rs 35 lakh will be provided by the state government while the remaining by the Centre,” the officers said. Last year, the department had conducted over 600 tea parties in the state to bring awareness among villagers. Such parties are meant for people of different castes to spend time together drinking tea in the same kind of tumblers.
According to the inspector general of police social justice, tea parties are welcomed in rural Tamil Nadu and they create awareness among villagers.
The social justice and human rights wing of the state police has been waging a war against the existing two-tumbler system in certain pockets in the state. According to Dr Prateep V Philip, 12 police districts in the state are totally free of the evil practice of the two tumbler system in tea shops.
``We have reports that two tumbler system is not practised in Nilgiris, Tiruvarur, Thajavur, Kanyakumari,
We will soon eradicate it,” he added. According to him, all district police heads have been asked to conduct a special drive against this and give wide publicity so that the fear of law would deter potential offenders.
