Colors influencing moods – a combined reading from astrology and science!

Colors are related to swaras -

and both are related to planets as per Jyothisha.

This was outlined in an earlier post

http://jayasreesaranathan.blogspot.com/2008/08/connection-between-sapta-swaras-and.html

In this post I am giving the link to an experiment on

whether colors influence the moods of people.

And it has been found so.

And it tallies with what Jyothisha says about planetary influence

on people’s temperament by means of / in terms of planetary light

of specific colors.

The finding of the experiment is this:-

HYPOTHESIZED RESULTS

We intend to use three different tests in hope that they will create a pattern we can draw conclusions from. In theory, we expect red to induce a highly activated mood and blue to induce an inactive but pleasant mood. Black will be unpleasant and active. Green and yellow could both be pleasant, but we suspect that yellow will also induce and active mood, versus green which will be inactive. White is a neutral color, therefore we are unsure of the mood it will elicit. Our idea is that it will be split between negative and positive moods. We will base our decision on the type of mood that they are experiencing by using several adjectives in each category. The following is a list of the adjectives we will be using and the category they fall into. These are also our hypothesized results:

Category: Adjectives: Color:

High-Activation: surprised, intense: Red Activated-Pleasant: enthusiastic, lively: Red, Yellow Pleasant: happy, cheerful, glad: Yellow Unactivated-Pleasant: calm, at ease, serene: Green Low-Activation: quiet, tranquil, still, passive: Blue, White Unactivated-Unpleasant: dull, droopy, tired, bored: Blue Unpleasant: unhappy, miserable, sad: Black Activated-Unpleasant: fearful, anxious, nervous: Black, White”

In the above experiment,

high activation and low-activation levels of colors were used.

Planets also emit light in two such ways.

The exaltation and debilitation are about two extreme limits

of activity of the planetary light.

The moola trikona, retrogression and swa kshethra (own house)

form another set of variation within a particular activation of

the color of the planetary light.

The friend, enemy and neuter come under a category that

gives a harmful mood swing.

In this way all the 7 grahas influence the mood of a person.

The world is receiving the light of these

and also the light of the stars for nearly 4 billion years of its existence.

All the rocks and earthy particles have been bathing in their light

continuously for all these years.

It will be a worthy experiment by science

if it takes up some such experimentation to know

how this light has been received by the earth for 4 .2 billion years.

Jyothisha has already done that and

formulated relationships with numerous factors

and predicted the ways the humans are likely to behave

under the influence of such light and it colors.

To give an example,

the sun is identified - not with white but with red color of the ruby.

The sun is the major source of energy and all the other 6 grahas only reflect its light,

The light of the sun is not considered as white.

It is deep red or the color of ruby.

This is ascertained from the way the sun’s rays have gone into the making of ruby.

As per Vedic astrology, Ruby is formed by absorbing the positive rays of the sun.

The way that synthetic rubies are formed testifies this.

The synthetic rubies are formed by heat treatment.

The natural rubies are formed in nature

by the heat treatment by the sun’s rays!

In the experiment mentioned above,

Ruby-red was not considered.

If it had been included in the experiment,

they would have found out that it had given rise to a sense of power,

a sense of fulfillment as though by some dominance

and even hyper activeness.

The moods reported for other colors do tally with astrological theories.

For moon, it is white.

For Venus also a combination of white and other tints.

Astrology does not consider black as a color (which is true),

but rather as the contrary nature of something.

Moon exhibits this in the form of its phases.

The only other graha in our system that exhibits this nature is Venus!

Venus also has phases

and only one side of these two (moon and Venus)

are always seen by the earth.

The side which is seen is always pure as white.

But what is not seen is what we do not know.

This is similar to the mind.

No one will like to reveal what is in one’s mind.

No one will like to reveal the other side of oneself.

The side they project always will be a good one.

Moon as signifactor of mind symbolizes that in its phases.

Venus as signifactor for wife also symbolizes the same.

Both play an inevitable role in a man’ life.

When both are in bright phases, life is good.

When they are afflicted, life is with worries and troubles.

In the experiments it was seen that low activation levels of white

brought out quiet, tranquil and stillness and passivity too.

But an activated white or black

resulted in unpleasantness, fear, anxiety and nervousness.

Here the black comes into being as an alternate or contradiction of white.

Black is not only about the other side of light.

It can be the other side of any color.

This is as per astrological interpretation

and also true of Nature.

For instance, if we cover a red rose along with the plant,

with a red translucent sheet,

the red rose will appear black whereas the other parts of the plant will appear red.

Red color when it absorbs more of red will appear black.

This is rationale used in astrology too.

The same planet which helps in its Hora or antar dasa will give opposite results of its significance.

This rule works at every place of application in Jyothisha.

For instance the signifactor of a bhava, if placed in that bhava will black out the results

which otherwise it has to give.

Whereas it will give such results from another bhava

by means of aspect / influence.

It is like how the other parts of the rose plant looks red,

when seen through the red- sheet,

while the red rose looks black.

My inference from this is that black is not to be considered as a color.

It is the nullification of any color

and must be known from context where it is applied.

Any future scientific experiments must consider this view.

Coming to other colors, green is associated with Mercury.

Green the color of growth, development and prosperity

is everywhere on the earth.

This signifies the ‘Vishwam’ nature of Vishnu, the Protector.

(pacchai maamalai pOl mEni, Pvala vai kamal chnkaN-

Sun, Mars and Moon in the body of Vishnu!)

Green can be associated with anything –

with a poisonous weed or with an edible plant.

Mercury is a neutral planet

With whomever Mercury is associated, it will take up their qualities.

.Prosperity can be with any one, with a dharmic one

or with an adharmic one too.

Prosperity does not see what nature the people are.

It goes with them and merges

to become dharmic or adharmic along with them.

The wealth gotten through dharmic means will give positive results

The wealth gotten through adharmic means will give negative results .

That’s all about Mercury and its green color.

This is indicated by Krishna in Gita that

whomever is in whatever nature, He will drive them further into that nature.

That is the tendency denoted by Mercury for which Vishnu is the Lord

in Vedic astrology.

From the experiment we know that green induced

calmness and serenity.

This is about the un-activated green.

About activated green, it is not given.

It must be the same – since Mercury is a neutral planet.

Depending on the circumstance, the green will blend with the prevailing mood.

Yellow is indicated by Jupiter and blue by Saturn.

The findings on blue is interesting.

Slowness is the main nature associated with blue.

Too much slowness indicates laziness and aversion to work.

It may also indicate a state of rest and relaxation.

These are the two extreme limits of Saturn’s significance.

This has been found out in the experiment too.

Low-Activation of blue :- quiet, tranquil, still, passive.

Unactivated blue :-Unpleasant: dull, droopy, tired, bored

Now about red which is associated with Mars.

High-Activation of red :- surprised, intense

Activated red :-Pleasant: enthusiastic, lively.

But nothing is given about low level activation of red.

The mood in that case will be an irritable one.

Red is particularly of interest,

for it has the curative properties.

The red light of Mars is connected with blood and regeneration

and in medical application we find that this color is used to quicken the healing process.

Yes, Mars the planet that is dreaded as one giving rise to blood shed and wounds

is also the signifactor for healing!

As we saw from the explanations above,

Each planet / color is associated with a property

which we call as ‘karakattwa’ (signification)

That significance may work positively or negatively.

This is found out from certain factors such as

location, aspect, strength of the planet etc in an individual’s horoscope.

For instance Mars which stands for

valor, blood related moods and temperament,

signifies anger at one extremity of mental level and

wounds at another extremity of physical level.

That anger can be positively channelised if one uses it against an enemy is war.

That will bring one accolades.

If that anger is shown on all and sundry in one’s day-to-day life,

That is negative channelisation.

That will make one’s life miserable, besides making others’ lives miserable.

In this way, it can be seen that

the same planet (or color) with the same light

can make or mar something

based on the intensity of light / color

indicated by

its placement and other factors concerning the planet.
