Ramasetu should be declared a national monument, a world heritage.

Ramasetu issue rocks the nation because any attempt to tamper with the world heritage monument through a setu channel project of questionable value is an insult to the civilizational memory embodied in the Ramasetu which is also referred to as Setubandha in ancient texts and ancient maps.

On 31 December 2007 when a meeting was held by Rameshwaram Ramasetu Protection Movement in Rohini Park in New Delhi nearly 15 lakh people from all over India assembled to declare: Protect Ramasetu. This was the largest public meeting every held in the annals of Indian history.

The setu channel project does NOT make any nautical sense because the proposed channel of 11 ft. depth will only allow for small ships of less than 30000 tonnage to navigate the channel. Most maritime tonnage is carried on large ships, some as large as carrying 2 million tons of fossil fuel.

The setu channel will also result in a national security disaster because if another tsunami strikes (like the one which struck on 26 Dec. 2006 and which was diverted by Ramasetu), the channel will act like a funnel absorbing the energy of the tsunami and cause enormous devastation to the southern coast and devastate ports like Tuticorin or Vizhinjam. This is the opinion of tsunami experts and another tsunami is likely because of the plate tectonics recurring on the India-Burma plate boundary.

Ramasetu is a world heritage monument, an underwater cultural heritage under UNESCO guidelines. Memory of Rama is venerated not only in India but in many parts of the world. The memory is so intense that Malayasian federation government gazette notifications are issued in the name of Seri Paduka, Rama's Paduka in memory of Bharata embodying state power on Rama Paduka during Sri (Seri) Rama's exile in the forest.

India's Survey of India logo defines the boundary as Aasetu himachalam, that is, from Setu (Setubandha) to Himalayas. So intense and abiding is the historical memory enshrined in the hearts of every one who venerates Sri Rama as Vigrahavaan dharmah, the very embodiment of dharma as Valmiki underscores in a statement attributed to Rishi Vishwamitra who also referred to Bharatam Janam as the people of Bharata. One living monument which cherishes the memory of a civilization should not be tampered with. Setubandha, Ramasetu is venerated as a temple where annual pilgrimages end up on Ashadha Amavasya day with offerings of samkalpa, drawing Rama dhanush on the sands, making a shivalinga from Dhanushkodi sands and immersing the linga in the Setusamudram waters in prayerful adoration. So intense is the religious fervor associated with Sri Rama who symbolises the very unity and integrity of Bharata Rashtram -- from the pilgrimage sites and pariyatras of Rameshwaram to Varanasi to Badrinath.

For those seeking secular evidences for Sri Rama and Ramasetu, Malaysian Federation offers the living memory of Ramarajyam and sculptures on the largest vishnu temple of the globe, Angkor Wat cherish the memory of Setubandha.

The 317 p. report which justifies the imperative of protecting Ramasetu and abandoning the Setuchannal project is also available for download from: http://www.docstoc.com/docs/117365181/Rama-Setu-(S-Kalyanaraman-ed-May-2007)

http://bharatkalyan97.blogspot.com/2013/02/wont-tolerate-any-tampering-with-ram.htmlTransport options exist which can do without cutting through Ramasetu.

Safeguards must be instituted to protectplacer sand atomic minerals of southern coastline.

If the channel comes through and next tsunami strikes, the southern coastline of India including thorium monazite sands of Manavalakurichi, Aluva, Chavara will get wiped out, get lost in the sethusamudram and Tuticorin port will be devastated. This is what Tad Murthy the tsunami expert said. http://sethusamudram.gov.in/Articles/Tad/TedArticle.htm He cited the example of 1964 tsunami in Alberni Canal (also called Alberni Inlet) on Vancouver Island, in the province of British Columbia, Canada, The Alberni port was just devastated by the tsunami which rushed through the canal as the tsunami traveled all the way from Alaska into Canada. http://www.rediff.com/news/2007/jun/22inter.htm

Malaysian federation which mostly consists of Muslims adore the memory of Rama. 1. In Malaysia Malaysia gazette notifications refer to seri paduka: http://search.library.wisc.edu/catalog/ocm02242962  Warta kerajaan Seri Paduka Baginda 2. 'Kebawah Duli Yang Maha Mulia Paduka Seri Baginda Sultan' is the official title of the Sultan of Brunei. The present Sultan's official name (with full title) is "Kebawah Duli Yang Maha Mulia Paduka Seri Baginda Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Muizzaddin Waddaulah, Sultan dan Yang Di-Pertuan Negara Brunei Darussalam". In Malaysia, since 1993, the full title of the President of Malaysian Federation has been, Seri Paduka Baginda Yang di-Pertuan Agong (His Conqueror Majesty The Supreme Lord of the Federation). The President of Malaysia (who is elected from among the nine sultans) takes oath of office and secrecy in the name of 'Seri Paduka Dhuli'.

Do you know what seri paduka dhuli means and where it comes from? It means: the dust of Rama's Paduka (or sandals).

This is a memory recollected from Bharata's coronation of Rama Paduka during Rama's exiled life in the forests. Bharatam janam is the phrase used by Vishwamitra in Rigveda to refer to the people of Bharata. Bharata is the younger brother of Rama in Valmiki Ramayana.

Do you need any greater truth than this history which is all around us remembering Rama? Setubandha (Ramasetu) is adored on sculptures of Angkorwat Vishnu temple
