Jayalalithaa or Karunanidhi – for whom Rajinikanth told the story in the Endhiran audio release?

Rajinikanth's speech is always watched keenly to know his mind on the political scenario of Tamilnadu. In his recent speech on the occasion of the release of the audio CD of his film Endhiran, he revealed a couple of ideas that was running in his mind.

Initially Rajini was all praises for Kalanidhi Maran to an extent that it irritated the viewers. Rajini and his Endhiran team had a reason to be thankful to Kalanidhi Maran. Because when the film was running into financial trouble, it was Kalanidhi Maran who chipped in time and funded the film liberally.

But the excessive praises on him reminded us of the numerous industrialists of this country who also risk their money through which the employees get a safe job but never were praised like this. Only these employees make the films run successfully in the theaters.

It also reminded me that this country gave a paltry sum of 100 crores to the ISRO to do the real science project of Chandrayaan whereas more than 100 crores were spent on making the science fiction film, Endhiran! Here they praise Kalanaidhi Maran for the cost he invested as though that was the life-saving investment. It might have been so for them in the team. So I find no offence with that. This venture coming under the showbiz industry gets all the attention, but let people not forget that the risk and contribution by numerous other industrialists have made our economy what it is today.

Rajini also indicated how quickly Kalanidhi Maran grew from 1993 to 1999 to become one of the top industrialists of the country. When your father is the Union Industry Minister, you can also become a top industrialist of the country – everyone knows this. Rajinikanth reminded us of this !!

Initially the speech by Rajinikanth was available in Youtube in 2 parts. The 2nd part of the Youtube has Rajini touching vaguely on some political issues. This 2nd part was not accessible due to copyright issues. So until the event was shown on the Sun TV on last Sunday, no one had a clue on what he talked towards the end of his speech. After seeing the show in the Sun TV, it was understood why the 2nd part alone was banned for viewing while the same copyright issue did not bother the first part. After the event was shown on Sun TV, the 2nd part has been posted as a recorded version from the TV programme. It can be viewed here.

First part here:-

Rajini talked about team work that went into the making of Endhiran. That far, it is fine. Then he went on to say that if proper 'koottani' (coalition) is made, all the 234 seats can be won. For whom he told this kanakku (calculation)? Who is in need of making 'koottani'? One thing is clear. He need not give this 'idea' to Karunanidhi nor remind him of that. Karunnaidhi already has a firm koottani. So it is someone else that Rajini is having in his mind when he made this observation!

Then before winding up his speech, he told a story. It was about a group of people going together to the top floor of a building. The climbing by steps was a tiresome experience that each one of them would tell a story while climbing the floors to reduce the feeling of tiredness. When they reached the penultimate floor – 69th floor and it was the turn of the one to tell a story to reach the last floor, that person told that he had forgotten to bring the key to open the door of the last floor. They all have to go together to the ground floor all the way to fetch the key. Only if they go together, they can get the key. Rajini told that one can not remain in the top for ever. One has to come down to achieve again.

Why did he say this? This story looked abrupt and not jelling with what he spoke until then. All his team members were humble beings and not the ones who gloated for being on top. Rajini himself told like this about them. Then for whom Rajini told this story? Who is sitting on top? Who is not aware of ground realities? Who has to come down and start afresh?

If you want to probe Rajini's mind, you can read this along with his 'koottani' talk. If 'koottani' was meant for Jayalalithaa, this talk on non-permanency of the top post seems to be meant for Karunanidhi.
Tamilnadu will be going to the polls in the near future. Going by past records, it will not be a free and fair election. The people on top will not allow the people on bottom to vote according to their conscience. Anything can be tolerated but not subversion of Democratic process. That is why we need a fresh 'koottani' (coalition) and the people on top must be grounded to the democratic system of fair polling. In my opinion, Rajinikanth succinctly touched on these two issues in his speech.

In the days to come, I expect him to voice his opinion openly and help in the restoration of fair polls. Let Karunanidhi face the free and fair poll and come back to power. But when he chokes the very life-thread of democracy, he must be stopped. Let all right thinking people voice their opposition to this subversion done and expected to be done by Karunanidhi.

Looking at Karunanidhi's horoscope, I strongly think that he can retire gracefully from public life now itself. Let his sons or party face the polls in honest ways. Allow the people to choose whom they want. If they choose DMK in a non-tempting environment, we will welcome DMK.

As of now, what Rajini told in the story suits Karunanidhi more than anyone else. He is riding his peak time now. But one can not remain in peak at all times. By intuition or by some advice, Karunanidhi originally wanted to retire in July – while in peak- after the World Tamil Conference. This is the right time. But he chose to stick on – due to pressure from his children. This is not a wise decision.

The planets in dasa or bhukthi that were running in his life when MGR and Jayalalithaa were in power are making a reappearance next year when the polls are due to take place! He will be facing the next elections in Venus- moon period. Venus will behave like Jupiter in his horoscope as it is in the asterism of Jupiter. He knows that his Jupiter is weak. (That is why he wears the yellow shawl). In addition it has no bindus in its house in Martian Ashtakavarga. One more information – Jupiter is the 6th cuspal sub-lord. It will not give him 'nimmadhi' – a term Rajini wished him in the meeting where he spoke about Sarvajya.

I personally appeal to Karunanidhi to be content with what he has got so far and retire gracefully from office. Let him know that he has come this far due to the exemplary "Sreekanta yoga" – that comes to a person of devotion to Shiva. But that yoga had been maligned by a retro Jupiter which has gone into debility in the 6th house in Navamsa. A worst offence to the teacher in his last birth had afflicted the Sreekanta yoga as a result of which he gained prominence but reversed all that a sincere devotee would do.
He glorified the one as Guru who can not be glorified by any right thinking person.
He did everything to reverse the glory of Hinduism.
The inner Athma of Karunanidhi would be crying at all the reversal it was made to do as a puppet in the hands of destiny.

The power of destiny or Kaala purush is such that it had used him in its scheme of furthering Kali.
But Karunanidhi would come back –
in a future birth as an ardent devotee – of Rama – not Shiva as he is showing every sign of moving towards Vishnu.
He has gloated on everything he has done – but not on one thing.
That was the help he had silently done – and doing for writers.
Writing, writers, books and publishing come under the influence of Mercury or Vishnu.
Karunanidhi shows a genuine interest in these and had not sought to make a fuss out of it.
This shows he is coming under Vishnu's blessings.

It is probable that he would be re- born as an ardent devotee of Vishnu and who knows - he may even build the Ram Sethu that he wants to destroy now.
His present life is a reversal of what he was in the previous birth.
His future birth would be
a reversal of what he is now.
Such is the game that Kaala purushan plays.
Let Karunanidhi understand this uncertainty and make a wise decision of putting a stop to adverse karma caused by unholy subversion of democracy and retire from politics now while he is still in peak.

Soundarya’s marriage – some thoughts on Rajinikanth.

I am the least interested in commenting on the marriage function in the household of Rajinikanth. But the kind of scenes that are seen around the marriage convinces me that I must write what I think.

The presence of the Karunanidhi parivar with the local Satrap Azhagiri & co gracing the function on the previous day and the Emperor with his entourage on the day of marriage draws an inevitable comparison with the recently held marriage of Chelsea Clinton, the daughter of the former President of the USA and the present Secretary of State. What was striking in the marriage function of Chelsea was the absence of President Barak Obama. Mr Obama was not invited for the marriage!

Though Obama has extended an offer to hold the marriage in The White House in their capacity as former tenants of the White House, he was not invited for the marriage function because the main player, Chelsea had not known him. It was her marriage and she wanted the presence of the people she is associated with. But that her mother is currently an important associate of Obama was not a sufficient reason to invite him. Everyone accepted that and Obama also did not make an issue out of that.

But look at how things are happening in Tamilnadu. There was some murmur even at the time of Soundarya's engagement ceremony on the invitation extended to Karunanidhi. Would Karunanidhi pardon Rajinikanth if he conducted the marriage like the Clintons and not invite him on the pretext that his daughter was in no way connected with him?

But who could question Rajinikanth, if he did not invite Karunanidhi for the marriage? If he says that it is Saoundarya's prerogative, what could Karunanidhi do about it? Why should this Hindu baiter who criticizes Hindu way of marriage be invited for this  marriage that was conducted in the Vedic way? Do Soundarya and her husband need the blessings of such a person? Marriage needs the blessings of well wishers who gather around and experience the joy of seeing the couple unite in marriage. Only such people who share the warmth with the couple must be present.

Inviting people for a show of Who is Who and for prestige, kills the very spirit of why people gather for the marriage. Thinking of Chelsea's marriage, Karunanidhi is no Obama, but he is Muni who has to be propitiated. If you don't propitiate the Muni, it would hit you. This is the situation  in Tamilnadu.

If a Rajinikanth himself is not immune to Muni's anger, who else could be? If the supposedly fearless Rajinikanth can not conduct any affair of his life without an imposing figure of Karunanidhi towing him, we can understand why others are competing with each other in falling at Karunanidhi's feet.

Within 2 days of Soundarya's marriage, Karunanidhi sent a salvo to Rajinikanth while attending the marriage of Vairamuthu's son. Karunanidhi has said that he knows want Rajinikanth has told Vairamuthu but does not want to speak about that. What does he mean by this? He was all praises for Vairamuthu that he never conceals anything from him (Karunanidhi) and has leaked to him what Rajini told to Vairamuthu as confidential. What is that some thing that Rajini had told Vairamuthu but would not want Karunanidhi to know? Is this a veiled threat to Rajinikanth? All this looks like a third rate masala movie. Check this link for the news item on this in today's Dinamalar.

Of all the film personalities, Rajinikanth commands respect among different sections of the public. He is seen as one not swayed by money or popularity. His opinions are keenly observed by the public. He has demonstrated fearlessness in voicing opinion on political masters and political issues. But nowadays he seems to be caught in some dragnet of Karunanidhi. It seems that Rajinikanth has been 'bought' by Karunanidhi by hook or crook. If Rajinikanth himself suffers such a fate, what can we say about millions of people who are bought with freebies and cash for votes?

Snubbed, stabbed or warned – what did Rahul do to Karunanidhi?

Voices are heard form all sides why Rahul did not meet Karunanidhi.

If the excuse he has given is to be believed, he must not have paid the visit to Raj Bhavan. Why did Rahul choose to meet the Governor when his agenda was to confine himself to youth congress and meeting the youth of the State only?

Rahul did convey some thing in this visit which was understood by Karunanidhi. It was not a snub or a back-stab but a clear warning that Karunanidhi must work on the issue that he has raised.

The issue he has raised was that democracy must not be murdered by the lure of cash for votes!

This message of his visit seems to have been understood by Karunanidhi than by others and the media and that is why the rattle was heard in the DMK camp in the first day itself.

The first day of Rahul’s visit began with a missive from college students (women) who asked him how he can expect them to join politics when winning an election means spending money to buy the votes. This new culture promoted by Karunanidhi in Tamilnadu is the most atrocious assault on the very root of democracy. Until now only politicians and their coterie were the corrupt elements. Now they have made the common people also corrupt and a party to this worst crime against democracy. If some one asks why you give money for votes, the politicians will coolly shift the blame on the people. By making people also party to this vote-for –money, these heavy weights will treat it as a justification or an excuse. In the melee, it is democracy – the very fruit for which our freedom fighters shed blood- is made to bleed to death. Nowhere in the world has this kind of Thirumangalam effect happened. No democracy seems to have encouraged this trend. Karunanidhi has made a name for himself in this way for History to record. He has Vairamutthus and Vaalis around him to sing praise of him in a typical monarchic style. He thinks what they praise only will be read by posterity. No. Posterity has no poetic cravings; it wants facts; it will sift the facts from poems and review him with a critical mind and clinical method of an autopsy.

Today Karunanidhi boasts that his is a cadre based party which can not be uprooted. Yes, the cadres have been well trained to keep the people inebriated to vote for cash. The only party or power in India to check this malaise from becoming malignant is Congress and Rahul Gandhi. Rahul made known his mind immediately after the elections when the trounced congress candidates made a bee line to Delhi to cry out the woes. When he made an announcement that after UP, it is TN that is in his agenda, it raised some guesses about his intentions. Now his intention is known. He could have tried his hand in other states like Karnataka where Congress has a good presence and is in need of a Midas touch from this Prince Charming. But he chose Tamilnadu and took up the agenda of corruption. An apt agenda for in the land of Karunanidhi!

Wherever he went, he invited people to join politics to fight corruption. In this pioneering land of corruption, he knows what response he will get. And he got it which was published in the only magazine in Tamil nadu which seems not yet bought by the DMK. He did not fail to ask why people take cash to vote. But least he remembered that the vote-for cash has its genesis of ‘Colour TV for vote’ that was propagated right under the nose of his mother and which was also promised by his mother in Gujarat State elections. You allow the rot in whatever limited way, it will anyway grow cancerously. Now the people have got used to selling their votes for money. How is he going to change this trend?

He gave one side of the solution for this in his press conference. He said he has raised the issues. It is for the State government to take these issues and remedy them. There were no issues of regular problems addressed by him anywhere. The only issue he raised was that politics must be corruption free and that people should not take money to vote.

As the other side of this solution, he deliberately refrained from meeting Karunanidhi. The solution for this problem rests with Karunanidhi. Rahul could have met him after it became an issue in the first day. He gave a nice explanation but chose to ignore his explanation and met the Governor on the 3rd day. If only he has hinted, Karunanidhi himself would have come to Raj Bhavan to meet him. Such was the love of Karunanidhi for fellow politicians. We lost a chance to witness Karunanidhi’s brotherly love for YSR Reddy who was slated to take part in Anna celebrations. At least we could have been treated with his fatherly love to Rahul Gandhi if only Rahul has given a hint to meet him. His age and ailment would not have stopped him -as had happened when he camped at Delhi after elections - from showing his love for Rahul and penning a poem for him in his party organ. But alas, Rahul has disappointed him.

This is a loss to Rahul and to us also from witnessing the ‘paasa-mazhai’. But Rahul seems to have seen a chance in this visit to arrest another kind of loss that is setting in Tamilnadu. I wish he maintains this pressure on DMK. If DMK does not change its ways, the Congress must change. It must not hesitate to sever its ties with DMK.

For, after all more than Karunanidhi and politics, it is the very essence of Democracy that must be guarded. By quoting Emergency days in reaction to Rahul’s visit, Karunanidhi has unwittingly reminded us of the strangulation to Democratic principles. Let Karunanidhi not become another name in Indian history associated with burying democratic principles.

GIRLS ASSURED OF TRAINING TO EVOLVE INTO GOOD POLITICIANS

AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday used the ingenious method of making college girls, women beedi workers and young women professionals in Tirunelveli open up about their problems and attitude towards mainstream politics and assured them that their joining the Youth Congress would be a panacea. The youth icon of the Congress is on a three day whirlwind tour of Tamil Nadu to give impetus to enrolling members in the Youth Congress in the state.

Responding sharply to Mr Gandhi's call to women to give up any misgivings in participating in mainstream politics, a student of STC I women's college, Ms M.Suganya, questioned how they could enter politics where money and muscle power mattered. Supplementing Ms Suganya's question, beedi-roller Shanthi, from Singamparai village, said they could not get into politics easily as only relatives of leaders had the privilege of succeeding there.

Most women students said they shun politics as it required money not only to be distributed for votes during general elections but even for survival. They did not hesitate to question the real intention of political leaders in implementing 33 per cent reservation for women in legislative assemblies and Parliament. The beedi-rollers demanded alternative employment as their job was hazardous to the health of their family.
An MCA graduate from Pappangulam said as she could not get a job she took up beedi-rolling to earn for her family.

Patiently listening to all these problems through college student Mythili, who acted as interpreter, Mr Gandhi assured all kinds of training for young girls to evolve into good politicians if they joined the Youth Congress. The women have a chance of availing of 50 per cent reservation in future if they participated in active politics more, he pointed out.

After the interactive session with women that went on for about 55 minutes, Mr Gandhi met Youth Congress members from the three districts of Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli and Kanyakumari at Sarah Tucker girls' higher secondary school in Palayamkottai.

Join politics, Rahul tells varsity students

CHENNAI

AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday called on students to join politics to fight corruption in the country. In an interaction with students of Anna University here, Mr Gandhi said it was only the youth who can take on corrupt politicians for which students need to enter politics.

Students who attended the interaction said when they raised questions about corruption in the country, Mr Gandhi had clarified that it was not politicians who made the country corrupt but people who accepted bribe from political parties to vote during elections.

"The problem lies with both politicians and people. As responsible youth, why not you (Anna University students) enter politics and change the scenario in the country," Mr Gandhi was quoted as saying.

Muthu, EEE student, said Mr Gandhi referred to the disparity in society where urban people got more facilities and those in the rural areas are deprived of those opportunities.

"Poverty is not an economic phenomenon but those who don't get all opportunities are also considered poverty-stricken,"
he quoted Mr Gandhi.

Quoting Mr Gandhi, Mohammed Nizam, a material science student, said only 7 percent of students like those in Anna University get the opportunity to pursue higher education. A majority doesn't get the opportunity to study and enhance their skill sets, he had said.

Rahul for Congress rule in TN

The AICC general secretary, Mr Rahul Gandhi, unveiled his ambitious plans for the party in Tamil Nadu on Wednesday by saying that the fruits of Central schemes would reach people "when the Congress comes to power here."

He struck this confident note during a Youth Congress rally when a young woman queried why the benefits of the Central projects were not percolating to the common man.

"When the Congress party comes to power here, the benefits will certainly reach the masses,"
Mr Gandhi said, evoking loud cheers from the crowds which had arrived from Vellore, Tiruvannamalai and Kancheepuram.

He gave a patient ear to Youth Congress members and heard out their suggestions on how to strengthen the party in the state. Mr Gandhi said the strength and weakness of the Congress would be carefully assessed as also those of the regional parties. Replying to a question from another student on why politics had become synonymous with corruption, Mr Gandhi said that though the country was democratic, the political parties were not so.

"It is a closed system with a lot of impurities flowing in and they will flow out only when political parties become open and accessible to everyone in society," he said.

Elsewhere, he said the Congress would come to power if the youth wing worked hard. He would visit Tamil Nadu any number of times to ensure that, he told party cadres.

DMK PLANS COUNTER BLITZ DURING ANNA FETE

In the midst of his whirlwind tour of Tamil Nadu, AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi on Thursday called on Governor Surjit Singh Barnala at the Raj Bhavan.

Nothing unusual about it, but then the `courtesy call' only ended up irritating further the ruling DMK camp, already nursing the grouse that the Congress general secretary did not observe the usual AICC `protocol' of visiting Mr Karunanidhi, even though he spent three days in the state.

Announcing Mr Gandhi's `courtesy call' on Governor Barnala, his secretary said in a statement that the Governor presented the Congress leader with a shawl and a copy of his books My Tryst With Freedom and My Other Two Daughters.

To those DMK functionaries sulking that Mr Gandhi did not personally pay his respects to their thalaivar, the statement and the shawl pictures from the Raj Bhavan caused further aggravation. Some could even see `a design, a clear message,' in what the Congress prince did on his TN trip.

"By the Raj Bhavan visit he made it clear that he had time for the Governor but no time for our leader. He met the Governor only to clear any doubts in the public mind that he skipped thalaivar only because he was too busy and hard-pressed for time," said a DMK functionary, requesting anonymity.

"We must take this insult as a challenge thrown at us by the Congress leadership.
He (Rahul) has come here to strengthen his party through enrollment to the Youth Congress. We must hit back by rejuvenating the DMK's youth base. We must send out popular and educated young leaders, such as Kanimozhi, Thangam (Thennarasu), Raja (Union minister) and Poongothai, to the countryside for reiterating party principles amid the masses," said the DMK leader in response to alarming reports that Mr Gandhi's tour of Tamil Nadu has caused some ripples, particularly amid the youth.

The DMK leadership is certain to use founder Anna's centenary celebrations on Sept 15 to unleash a counter-blitzkrieg across the state.

In the mega event at Chennai, Mr Karunanidhi would be sharing the dais with Union finance minister Pranab Mukherjee, who releases the five-rupee coin with Anna's image on it.

The AICC general secretary, Mr Rahul Gandhi, on Thursday publicly opposed the interlinking of rivers, which has been endorsed by ally DMK and other state political parties.

Speaking to reporters here on the concluding day of his three-day Tamil Nadu tour, Mr Gandhi said the national interlinking of rivers was a "disastrous idea" and will have dangerous environmental implications.

Terming it as a personal view, Rahul added, "Nature is very powerful and I think it is not a good idea to play with it on a massive scale."

When asked about DMK strongly pressing for the scheme to overcome water disputes with neighbouring states and to address Tamil Nadu's irrigation needs, Mr Gandhi said that they were supporting such projects at the state level. Interestingly, interlinking of rivers had featured in the CMP (common minimum programme) drafted by the Congress led UPA (united progressive alliance) government in 2004 but was avoided in the Congress manifesto released in May 2009. The chief minister, Mr M. Karunanidhi, had been emphasising the need for interlinking of rivers to settle the inter-state water disputes Tamil Nadu has with neighbouring Karnataka, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh for long.

Leaders of several political parties in Tamil Nadu expressed dissatisfaction over Mr Gandhi's statement.

The CPI state secretary, Mr D. Pandian, told this newspaper that the statement need not be taken seriously as "he is only a young man and we do not expect great ideas from him."

He added that the UPA government had agreed before the Supreme Court to implement the project and filed an affidavit seeking time to file a final reply. "It was the duty of Mr Karunanidhi to explain this to Tamil Nadu people," he said.

The CPI (M) legislature party leader, Mr K. Balabarathy, also said the shelving of the project would create food insecurity besides jeopardising national integrity and livelihood of lakhs of farmers. Condemning Mr Gandhi's comment, a senior AIADMK leader said the party general secretary would make a statement on the issue soon.

Can anyone like Rama, but dislike Ram-rajya? Shashi Tharoor can!

In an interesting write up on the speech given by Mr Shashi Tharoor at IIM Calcutta in January 2012, Dr Vijaya Rajiva has torn off the mask of secularism and hypocrisy of the minister. Though this speech was given when he was not a minister, his views well speak of his attitude which would certainly have an impact in his functioning as a minister. Of all his half learnt thoughts on India and Hinduism, I would rate as best his advice that it is enough if you have Rama in your heart!

Can Rama be there without his concept of Ram-rajya?
Or can anyone have Rama, the Chakravarthy in heart without being surrounded by his brothers holding symbols of 'Hindu' kingdom?
Even the very name Rama has the katapayadi number 25, the concept of Atman in the 26 number concept of Hindu Thought.
The more one says Rama, Rama, one moves closer to realising his Atman which is the very core of Hindu thought.
But Mr Tharoor has an allergy to anything Hindu – an allergy that has become an identity for all those in the UPA dispensation and most other politicians.

The Rama-rajya as told by Rama himself in his enquiry to Bharata on the status of his kingdom shows that there is no room for anything other than Hindu way of life in Bharatvarsha.  When Bharata came to the forest to convince Rama to get back to the kingdom, Rama made several enquiries about how the kingdom was being run. There was no place for secularism of the kind that is practised in India today. Only temples were there everywhere, vedic homas were done everywhere – even Rama's earliest deputation on fighting was to protect Homas and penances of the rishis in the forest, even the very coronation of Rama was done by Vedic rishis and for that matter every king of Bharatavarsha was crowned with full Vedic rites in those days. There was nothing other than Hinduism in India which makes it truly a Hindu nation. Even today wherever Hindus are harassed, they look up India only for succour. There is no history or geography or archaeology that denies that India is a Hindu nation.

Even in his enquiry, Rama asks whether the nation 'well protected by his fore fathers' was prosperous. (V-R-2-100-46). This country belonged to Rama's forefathers, is the import.

He further asks whether he (Bharatha) as ruler follows the common practices which their fore father observed.
"Do you follow the common practice, which our fore fathers observed and which is in accord with the path of the virtuous and which is distinguished in itself." (V-R-2-100-74)
Such observances included study of Vedas by the ruler. Even a ruler must be well versed in Vedas, but  not in mleccha literature.

"Do you find advantages in your study of Vedas? Are your acts, production of fair results? Do you benefit from the company of your consorts? Has your learning been fruitful?" (V-R-2-100-72)
No other Dharma was practiced in India except Hindu Dharma. Everywhere in the kingdom there were temples and worship was carried out unhindered.

"I hope that the kingdom, adorned with peaceful places rich in temples and sheds where water stored for distribution to passers-by in tanks, with happy men and women, graced by social festivities, with land well-tilled, abiding in cattle which are totally free from cruelties, the agricultural land not exclusively fed by rains, which is beautiful and is purged of beasts of prey, which is completely rid of fears, studded with mines, a destitute of sinful men, and well-protected by our fore-fathers, is prosperous and an abode of happiness." (V-R. 2-100 - 43, 44, 45, 46, 47)

Rama speaks in these verses about cattle wealth and the absence of cruelty to cattle.  Can Mr Tharoor guarantee that at least in his home state?

Rama was anxious to know that those who were doing Vedic yajnas were not dissatisfied with the king (Bharata).

"I hope those who perform the sacrifice do not hold you in contempt, as one who accepts terrible gifts; as one who is fallen, as women hold in contempt of those highly lustful men." (Valmiki Ramayana, 2-100-28)

Look at the choice of words – 'as one who accepts terrible gifts' (उग्र प्रतिग्रहीतारम् ) – for bribes. The Vediks would denounce the ruler if he accepts terrible bribes (taking something in return for the kingly duties he has to do for the benefit of the people). (Perhaps Karunanidhi was right when he said that it was Brahmins and not 2 G scam that led to his defeat in the elections. It is a certificate to Brahmins that they would not tolerate scamsters!) Mr Tharoor must be in the know of what terrible bribe means, so no need to elaborate.  His party is preparing itself for the Mother of all terrible bribes – that of giving out cash doles in the name of welfare schemes in return for the votes later in the elections. They think that voters are like dogs and by throwing money at them like dog biscuits, their loyalty can be bought. If the people are indeed having Rama in heart, they should throw out this multi headed Ravana who follows nothing of Rama's concept of governance.

Rama expects the ruler to spend for divinities, deities and Brahmins! Can we then call Rama as a Manuwadi? But elsewhere, in the same enquiry he cautions Bharata that he must not honour materialistic Brahmins (लोकायतिकान् ब्राह्मणामः)  (V-R- 2-100- 38).

"I hope that your expenditure goes for the cause of divinity, manes, brahmins, unexpected visitors, soldiers and hosts of friends." (V-R. 2-100- 55)

"I hope you greet your teachers, the elderly, the ascetics, the deities; the unexpected visitors, the trees standing at cross roads and all the brahmins of auspicious life and conduct." (V-R-2-100- 61)

Such was the concern of Rama for Hindu deities and Hindu ways of life that it is not possible to 'have' Rama in heart and not his ideals.

Another issue that I want to tell here is that if Mr Tharoor feels uncomfortable about using the name Hindu, there is nothing wrong in calling our nation as India. But he must know the name India is more Hinduised than Hindu!

India was actually called as Indu – the land of Soma or Indu or Devi who is signified by Moon. Regular readers would know that I have been saying that the triangular shape of India makes it too special for drawing the power of Mother Goddess or Kali or Syama Kali.

The Himalayas look like the crescent moon on the head of India (2nd picture), thereby showering its cool rays on the people enveloped under its stretch. This gave the land the name Indu which was recorded by Hiuen Tsang in his travelogue. This was also written by Nehru in his "Glimpses of world history" . To quote him:-

"I told you once that India was known of old as the Land of the Moon-Indu-land!  Hiuen Tsang also tells us about this, and describes how suitable the name is.  Apparently even in Chinese in-Tu is the name for the moon." (http://www.oocities.org/rsr_sam/HARSHA.htm )

Even the name Hindukush is not correct. It was Indukush"This mountain range was famous for medicinal plants that bloomed in the moonlight. The Sanskrit word "Indukush" (Hindukush) means "krupan" (leaves or grass) that grows in the moonlight."

Ibn Bhatuttah gave  a wrong meaning as Hindu killer which was faithfully copied by western writers and  Indian secularists. We must note that even the avowed secularists Nehru did not manipulate nor alter the original meaning of India. At least now Indians must realise the true meaning and name of India.

" In his travelogue, he (Hiuen Tsang) records that "the correct pronunciation for Tien Chu (India) is Intu" which means the moon in Chinese language. He further elaborates that "the scholars from that land have brightened the world with their delightful and shining knowledge, like the moon." The knowledge that the scholars of this land gave to the world was Vedic knowledge. By denying that core fabric of India, Tharoor and his ilk are going into history as hypocrites who are ready to deride and mortgage their own country for selfish reasons, for some day or the other History will restore truth and dispassionately record it as the true past of our country.

Is Shashi Tharoor still play acting?

by

Dr. Vijaya Rajiva

On January 2012 Shashi Tharoor launched into a lengthy speech (more than 45 minutes) at the IIM Calcutta. It was titled 'Who is an Indian ? The Politics of Diversity'. This was vintage Tharoor.
He summoned up his best acting talent (it is reported that as a student at St. Stephen's College, New Delhi, he  had acted as Anthony in the Shakespearean play Anthony and Cleopatra). This would also explain his curious accent. He declaimed (as Anthony would have in Shakespeare's play Julius Caesar or in the play Anthony and Cleopatra ), the Nehruvian speech of midnight August, 1947 that talked about the tryst with destiny.

By now Indians are no doubt tired of theatrics, especially since Jawaharlal had sold the country down the drain on the Kashmir question and the Chinese debacle of 1962 and further would have planted a dagger in the heart of India if Sardar Patel had not acted swiftly in Hyderabad. No matter, Tharoor droned on and hailed Indian secularism and so on. He was in full flight as he quoted figures that showed the diversity of India. This went on for more than half an hour as he spun out jokes and stories (he described himself as a 'novelist' and rightly so, it would seem !) and kept the audience entertained. He even got carried away to tell the grisly story of his friend who described someone who had been electrocuted in prison as a Chairman of the electric chair or some such infantile story. The audience respectfully laughed!

It was when he came to the word 'Hindu' that he began to stumble. First off, he said that the word was a foreign importation, without actually mentioning that it was the Persians who changed Sindhu to Hindu. He seemed uncomfortable and ill at ease with the word. He did not and could not remember (most likely because he did not know) that Sindhu occurs in the Rig Veda, that most Hindu of all Hindu scriptures. Sapta Sindhu (seven rivers) is what every Hindu knows from the get go.

Why did Tharoor stumble on this one ? Ignorance, or the desire to get away from that word 'Hindu' ? Or to downplay it? He mentioned in passing the words Hindu Rashtra as if it were a dirty phrase, once again displaying his ignorance of the Rig Veda. There must surely be many Stephanites who know their Rig Veda ! Not Tharoor it seems. Aham rashtrii sangamani vasunam said the goddess Sarasvati (I am the rashtii that moves people towards their welfare) in the Rig Veda. But it seems that Tharoor could not or did not know that the word 'rashtram' also has a respectable Vedic lineage.

He was quick to point out that while North India suffered from the point of the sword (Islam) in the south it was a different story. He mentions the lone incident of the Arab traders who came to the Kerala coast but not the murder and mayhem by the Bahmani sultans who wreaked havoc on Vijayanagar or the ravages of Tippu Sultan in his very home state of Kerala. That Vijayanagar (after treachery) was destroyed with savagery for almost a year and the ruler Rama Raya was beheaded and had his head fixed on a pole (the similar fate of Prithviraj) was not at all mentioned by Tharoor!! One could say in defence of Tharoor that he was well intentioned and was not keen on raising contentious issues, but if so, why did he invoke the Babri Masjid and the death of Muslims in Gujarat in 2002? And interestingly enough he omitted mentioning the horrific roasting to death at Godhra of pilgrims returning from Ayodhya, old men, women and children at Godhra, that was the root cause that led to the riots in Gujarat ! Or the current murders and killings of Hindus in his home state of Kerala? He mentions that his wife and he visited the sufi saint's tomb and although her family's home had been burned down in Kashmir that she did not entertain any ill will towards Muslims. That is indeed big of her !

He omits to mention the massacre of Kashmir Hindus in the same time period (she was the lucky one who escaped !) and the current terror in which Hindus live in Kashmir. Or the thousands of Kashmiri Hindus who live in tents and miserable circumstances after they were driven out at the point of the sword from Kashmir. He omits to mention the terror which Hindus in West Bengal are subjected to. The list is endless and is about contemporary incidents not medieval history.

Why this selective memory ? Why this amnesia ?

The answer is that Shashi Tharoor is still play acting. He is still the teenage Stephanite . All the world is a stage (literally!). He is in his imagination the Anthony of the Indian scene. Perhaps in more ways than one ! There is a lack of gravitas in his new found role as potential come back as a new kid on the block for the Congress. And worshipping at the altar of the worst government that free India has had to date, he needs must disown his Hindu heritage and strike a few blows against it while he can. While he denies the status of 'majority' to Hindus he has no compunctions in conferring the title of 'minority' to other communities. Witness his recent visits and talks at the National Commission of Minorities. His hero at independence had acted in a similar way! (Editor's Note: By definition Tharoor must know there is no "minority" if the "majority" is not identified !!)
Nor is he concerned with the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Act which hands over on a silver plate to minorities the looting of Hindu temples by the 'secular' government.

Witness his contrasting his ill informed view of Hindu Rashtra with his so called recipe for diversity, another word for the bashing of the Hindu majority. He cannot accept the fact that Bharat is a Hindu country. His stage managers from New Delhi are obviously calling the shots and he is willing to play courtier. While their indifference bordering on hostility is understandable and this includes his stage managers in Kerala, it is more difficult to explain his barely concealed hostility towards Hinduism to which he pays lip service.

Is he dissembling, play acting in the larger interests of his handlers ? The answer is both yes and no. No, because of his built in immaturity from the old St. Stephen days makes him a ready accomplice in the marginalisation of Hindus and yes because he knows it has gotten him thus far with a fair amount of success and hopes his luck will hold.

At the Calccutta speech he had said : it is enough if you have Rama in your heart.

The Hindus of India can be sure of one thing: when Lord Rama goes out to battle the asuric forces our Anthony will be nowhere around to help !
