The following link on stupas and Harappan archeology throws light on the commonality of cremation practices throughout the Bharath, including Tamilnadu and the need to re-look at branding the Aryan / Vedic practices of ancient Tamils as that of a never-existent Dravida.
The 'nadu-kal' for those killed in the battle field and the Pithru medha ceremony of burying the incinerated bones which have been unearthed in places like Adhichchanallur are indicative of the prevalence of the ancient Vedic custom in Tamil nadu. The classification as Megalithic, stone age etc all pale into naught when it comes to history of the Bharath.
The other link provided below throws light on how this is a very very ancient land - the One land which was home for santana dharma.
